ECoR writes to SCR proposing augmentation of AC Sleeper coaches on Double Decker express from Vizag to Tirupati
In a letter to the Chief Traffic Planning Manager of SCR the Chief Commercial Manager of ECoR noted that 22707/08, which is owned by SCR, is running during night time with occupancy of 122.24% from Visakhapatnam, and 114.25% from Tirupati. The train is departing from Visakhapatnam at 11 p.m. and reaching Tirupati at 12.30 p.m. In the return direction, it is leaving Tirupati at 9.50 p.m. and arriving in Visakhapatnam at 10.40 a.m.
Presently, only two trains 18521/22 Tirumala daily express and 22707/08 Tri-Weekly Double Decker express are running directly from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati. Most of the passengers are travelling to Tirupati for darshan of Lord Balaji. The composition of 22707/08 is 10 coaches, including two LWLRRM (Luggage, Generator and Brake Van) coaches and eight LWSCZDAC (Chair Car) coaches. The daily average number of passengers boarding this train is 1,170 from Visakhapatnam, and 1,096 from Tirupati for the period April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
Acting on a letter written by ZRUCC Member K. Eswar, the ECoR official wrote to the SCR CPTM that passengers like senior citizens, Divyangjan, patients, pregnant women and families with children are utilising this train. They are facing lot of difficulties due to lack of AC Sleeper coaches. As this train is running during night time, passengers expect facilities that allow them to rest properly. The existing composition of Double Decker train does not meet passenger needs, resulting in discomfort to them. The ECoR CCM proposed augmentation of AC coaches, i.e., 2 A, 3 A and 3 E class coaches either temporarily or permanently on train no. 22707/08 Tri-Weekly Double Decker Express.

BJD urges ECoR to resume passenger trains on Koraput-Kirandul line
Koraput: BJD has urged the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to immediately resume train services on the Koraput-Kirandul line after they were suspended following a landslide earlier this month, to address the inconvenience faced by commuters. In a memorandum submitted to the ECoR general manager, BJD stated that train services on the Koraput-Kirandul line were disrupted on July 2 after a landslide between Malliguda and Jarati stations under the Waltair division. Though the debris were cleared within two days and tracks were declared fit for operation by July 4 evening, passenger services remain suspended while goods trains have resumed movement at restricted speed. Highlighting the plight of commuters, BJD pointed out that thousands of passengers are facing daily hardship as all long-route passenger trains are being short-terminated at Koraput, instead of reaching their original destinations like Jeypore, Jagdalpur and Kirandul. According to reports, at least 10 passenger trains are being short-terminated since the disruption. A senior railway official said the suspension of services was a precautionary measure due to ongoing safety-related works in the affected section. SCR increases sleeper coaches in six trains
Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has decided to increase sleeper coaches on select routes from Sept 23. The move comes after TOI reported on July 21 that SCR had sleeper class coaches on long-distance trains impacting thousands of daily travellers. The additional coaches will be attached to the Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar (train no. 17016/17015) Vishaka Express, Hyderabad-Mumbai (22731/22732) superfast express, and Hyderabad-Mumbai (12701/12702) Hussain Sagar superfast express. The 12 additional coaches across the six trains would accommodate over 1,000 more passengers in sleeper class daily. TOI's report earlier had highlighted that several superfast express trains reduced sleeper coaches from 10-12 to merely three to six. On the other hand, AC coaches were increased from about 6 to 12, making it tough for passengers to secure a berth. However, Hussain Sagar express was running with 18 coaches, due to platform constraints at Mumbai CSMT terminal. "Since the train is not running with standard rules, it is now proposed to increase the sleeper coaches from two to four. Similarly, the number of sleeper coaches in Visakha express will be increased from three to six," said a senior SCR official.

Changing maintenance slot of Sabari to Thiruvananthapuram to hit interest of passengers in Kerala
The Southern Central Railway's (SCR) move to shift the primary maintenance of the Secunderabad–Trivandrum–Secunderabad Sabari Express from Telangana to Thiruvananthapuram will affect the interest of passengers from Kerala. According to Thomas Simon, General Secretary, Western India Passengers' Association, the scarce maintenance slots available in the Thiruvananthapuram Southern Railway division would be usurped by the changes suggested by the SCR. The rakes were hitherto maintained by SCR. At present, four rakes are being used by the railway to hold the Secunderabad-Thiruvananthapuram service. The railway can operate the 17230 / 17229 Sabari Express (1,555 kms one way) on a PFTR (Platform Turn Round) basis with a reduced running time of 25/26 hours at a minimum average speed of 60 kmph. This will save one rake, as the train that reaches Thiruvananthapuram in the evening can depart for Secunderabad a few hours after primary cleaning and by retaining the maintenance slot under the SCR itself. The saved rake can be used for a biweekly Secunderabad–Kottayam–Secunderabad superfast service. Moreover, the southern railway Thiruvananthapuram division can make use of the time slot provided for Sabari Express at 6.45 a.m. for operating a Thiruvananthapuram–Ernakulam–Thiruvananthapuram intercity service with an arrival slot of 6 p.m. at Thiruvananthapuram. Instead, the Sabari Express that arrives at 6.05 p.m. in Thiruvananthapuram can return to Secunderabad on the PFTR basis within a few hours. If the speed of the train is increased and adjusted between various stations, the Sabari Express (17230) can arrive at Thiruvananthapuram before 3 p.m. and can depart between 5 and 6 p.m., said Mr. Simon. At present, the train that reaches Palakkad at 9.20 a.m. reaches Thiruvananthapuram by around 6.05 p.m., taking over nine hours, a harrowing experience for the passengers. On the other hand, the intercity service can provide around 2,000 additional seats for local commuters one way in the peak office hours, a major relief for the daily commuters in the Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam sector, where passenger trains are overcrowded. Last year, two women passengers fell unconscious due to suffocation on the overcrowded Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur Venad Express, said Mr. Simon.
