Pauline Ferrand-Prevot wins final stage to become first French winner of Tour de France Femmes
The 33-year-old of team Visma-Lease a Bike - who only returned to road racing this year after a seven-year hiatus - held steady through the 124.1km ride from Praz-sur-Arly to Chatel, before countering a move by Vollering and launching a decisive attack in the last seven kilometres.
She fell to the ground in tears after crossing the finish line and celebrated with her parents, while compatriot Jeannie Longo - a three-time winner of a previous incarnation of the Tour, in the 1980s, and the last French champion - made an appearance at the roadside on a great day for the host nation.
'I'm so, so happy,' Ferrand-Prevot told reporters. 'I was a bit scared with the pressure of this jersey... I had to stick to the front and just stay there.'
Vollering, of FDJ-Suez, stayed in a group with Ferrand-Prevot for the majority of the ninth stage, but could not break away to make up her deficit of more than three minutes coming into the final day.
The Dutch rider finished second in the race for the second year in a row, and secured a podium spot for the fourth year running, losing out on the yellow jersey by three minutes and 42 seconds. Defending champion Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon-SRAM) finished third overall, four minutes and nine seconds back.
Ferrand-Prevot, who won gold in the cross-country mountain biking at last year's Paris Games, had taken the yellow jersey from Kimberley Le Court on Saturday.
Australia's Sarah Gigante, who was second overall coming into the final stage, tried to get ahead of Ferrand-Prevot on the hors-categorie Col de Joux Plane, but the Frenchwoman stayed on her wheels.
Gigante's poor descending cost her in the latter stages of the race. She fell behind as Ferrand-Prevot and her rivals caught up with the lone breakway rider Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime) on the way to Col du Corbier, the final major climb of the 1,168.6km race, and slipped to sixth overall, losing four minutes.
The exhausted leading group was unable to keep up when Ferrand-Prevot launched her final attack and crossed the finish line 20 seconds before Vollering to huge applause from the crowd in Chatel.
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who has led the points classification since stage three, cemented her position to deny Dutch compatriot Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) a third green jersey. Vollering's teammate Elise Chabbey won the Queen of the Mountains jersey and 21-year-old Dutchwoman Nienke Vinke secured the best young rider award.

Nassourdine Imavov explains declining UFC 319 backup: Caio Borralho 'taking my leftovers'
Nassourdine Imavov confirms he declined the UFC 319 title fight backup slot, but says it was for quality reasons. With his UFC Fight Night 258 main event on the horizon, Imavov (16-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) doesn't see much reward in traveling across the world, battling jet lag and cutting weight, only to likely not even fight in the end. He initially agreed to fill the role when it seemed the impending title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev would happen in late Spring or early Summer. But after the timeline pushed, Imavov declined. Even the Sept. 2 showdown vs. Caio Borralho in Paris, he views as a bit of a placeholder, though a necessary one. "I was like, 'OK, if the title fight is in August and I have to be the backup, then I don't want to train for nothing. I don't want to train for nothing,'" Imavov told MMA Junkie on Tuesday through a French-language interpreter. "... So I was like, 'Maybe it's better to focus on Caio Borralho.' The UFC asked us a few weeks ago for me to come in the U.S. for the weigh-ins and everything. I said no because I have a fight that's scheduled three weeks later. So I don't have time to travel and have jet lag. I want to be in the best condition for my fight. That's why I said, 'No, I won't come. Maybe they'll put Caio at this place.' But right now, I'm only focusing on Caio in Paris. Bring him." Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) instead will weigh in Aug. 15 in Chicago. He proudly revealed the backup fighter designation himself on social media. To Imavov, the designation is no accolade, however. "For me, it's his problem," Imavov said. "He agreed to that because he was honored to be the backup, but he's just taking my leftovers because I declined. Otherwise, if I hadn't declined, the UFC wouldn't call him to be the backup. He has to understand this. In my mind, I hope he won't use it as excuses or dodge the fight. I will be ready Sept. 6 and he has to be ready. Because he has spoken a lot. No excuses. "Even for me, being the backup for a title shot it's not an honor for me. Because when I want to fight for the title, I want to have my face on the poster. Because what's he going to do? He's going to make weight and be in another (city) there in Chicago. No one will speak about him. He doesn't have any road at the end of the day and everyone will forget after the fight happens because Khamzat and DDP and everyone will forget Caio was the backup. It's something that doesn't have any sense. No one is speaking about the backup fighter." Title eliminator – no question, affirms Imavov Imavov says without question, if he gets through Borralho, he'll be the next UFC middleweight title challenger. He says the UFC has told him as much. A win would make it five victories in a row over top-10 opponents since February 2024. Other victories in the stretch include Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, Brendan Allen, and Israel Adesanya. "It's very simple: I'm a complete fighter," Imavov said. "I consider myself as a complete fighter. So if it has to go to the ground, it'll go to the ground. I will welcome him to the ground. If it stays standing, it will be (better) and I will just demolish him. The thing is that I don't speak too much but when I fight, I want to bring a real show to my fans." "... He just wants to win the fight in this way, having a weird fight, a not interesting fight. That's not how I'm used to doing. For me, I'll make this fight in spectacular fashion. It's important for me to show people that I can make a boring fighter, a great fight." Simone Biles Makes Herself at Home in Chicago Ahead of NFL Season—After Revealing She and Jonathan Owens Have a House There
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is flipping her way through multiple luxury trips this summer—but she still found time to show her support for her husband, Jonathan Owens, over the weekend, when she visited their home in Chicago where the NFL star is busy preparing for the upcoming football season. Biles, 28, who recently returned from a girls' trip to the British Virgin Islands, wasted no time in jetting off to the Windy City to attend the Chicago Bears' annual Family Fest event at Soldier Field. Once there, she shared several photos and videos from the event—including a stunning snap of the Chicago skyline, which appears to have been taken from an apartment unit inside a high-rise building, which might well be where the couple are basing themselves for the NFL season. The seven-time gold medalist also shared several images and clips of her husband, whom she wed in 2023, out on the field, including a tongue-in-cheek video of the football pro showing off his juggling skills before starting his official training. Biles proved that she is already very much at home in the Illinois city, revealing that she has secured herself a preferred hairstylist in the area, who she noted 'slayed' her ponytail hairdo for the family-friendly event, which the team hosts each year. The talented athlete, who has competed at three Olympic Games, added two diamond necklaces to her look—including a sweet accessory that spelled out her married name, 'Owens,' in sparkles, before topping the look off with a pair of sunglasses. Ever the jet-setter, Biles apparently did not stay in Chicago for long. She later posted photos and videos from her evening walk with her beloved French bulldog; they appear to have been taken near her home in Spring, TX, which she has owned since 2020. Biles has been based in Texas for much of her life, having resided with her parents, Ron and Nellie, in the state since her childhood. And while she and Owens have committed to a life in Chicago—at least during the NFL season—it's clear that they plan for the Lone Star State to be their home base for many years to come, having started work on a stunning custom-built lakefront mansion near Biles' childhood home in 2023. The gymnast has shared the progress of her mansion on her social media, beginning with the home's basic structure, then moving on to various design details, from the monochrome laundry room to the waterfront infinity pool. The couple's new dwelling, when finished, will offer some special amenities, including a wet bar, game room, home theater, pet spa, and multiple balconies overlooking the water. In October, Biles revealed that work on the property was nearing completion, when she showed off some of the stunning interior decor touches that had been installed. They include a dramatic black-and-white marble backsplash in the kitchen and some quirky patterned tiling in the laundry room. Outside, her images captured the new swimming pool, which overlooks the lake and features a lavish spa. The photos revealed that the pool's foundation had been laid, the structure was almost complete, and it just needed an overhaul of the surrounding space—as well as some water to fill it. More recently, she shared another exciting update: the addition of grass at the front of the home. 'We have grass,' she said while sharing a photo of the lawn on her Instagram Stories, adding a shocked screaming emoji for emphasis. The photo also showed several brick planter beds filled with an array of foliage. The white exterior and black window frames could also be seen, with a flowering tree in the background. Though the grass might not mark the most significant progression in the homebuilding process, its arrival suggests that Biles and Owens' opulent new dwelling might be near completion, just in time for the latter to head to Chicago for preseason training. Owens is preparing to start his second season with the Bears, after signing a two-year contract in 2024. He started his NFL career with the Cardinals in 2018, before moving to the Houston Texans, where he was playing when he and Biles began dating. Though his football success has forced him to bounce around multiple locations over the past three years, Biles has remained his most avid supporter, regularly appearing on the sidelines of his games, more often than not sporting custom merch made in his honor. And it seems this season, she will take that support one step further, noting in May that she and Owens had found a home in Chicago, where they will likely base themselves during the season. In a post shared on her Instagram Stories at the time, Biles said the couple were busy shopping for new cars for their Chicago dwelling, although she gave no details about the property itself. 'Looking at cars today for our Chicago home,' she wrote over an image of the inside of a Porsche showroom. It is unclear if the couple have decided to put down permanent roots in the Windy City by buying a house or if they've opted to rent until the future of Owens' place on the team is confirmed.
