‘Jaws' star Richard Dreyfuss, 77, reveals grim diagnosis as he drops out of SharkCon: ‘I'm in a lot of pain'

Richard Dreyfuss is too sick to attend SharkCon this year. The 'Jaws' actor, 77, gave a grim update on his health in a clip from SharkCon's Instagram page shared over the weekend. 'Hello fellow cons,' Dreyfuss said from a hospital bed with a 'Jaws' blanket covering him. 'I am very, very sorry to tell you that I've been diagnosed with, viral, er…What is it?' 'Bronchitis,' Dreyfuss' wife, Svetlana Erokhin, answered off-screen. Bronchitis occurs when the airways leading to the lungs get inflamed and fill with mucus, according to Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, runny nose and fatigue. Dreyfuss continued: 'I've been told by my doctors I cannot fly and I would have to fly five hours to get there. I'm terribly sorry because I had planned to be there and I had been looking forward to it, but I am unable to do so.' 'I don't want to get anyone else sick,' the actor added, 'and I don't want to get sicker myself.' 'I feel terrible about not showing up and I feel worse about exposing you to this apparently very viral illness,' Dreyfuss went on. 'But there will be other times and I will make it my business to show up.' The Hollywood icon gave his best wishes to fans attending SharkCon in Tampa, Florida this weekend, before adding with a laugh, 'I want you all to feel very sorry for me, and very sorry for yourselves.' 'I'm in a lot of pain and that has to come first, my health,' he stated. 'I feel very good about having the time and enough health.' 'And such great fans!' added Erokhin, as Dreyfuss agreed, 'And such great fans.' 'We love you, we miss you all and we will see you soon,' Erokhin also said. Dreyfuss confirmed his wife was the person talking off-camera. 'She's right, she knows how to do this,' he said. 'So good luck, happy health, happy con – bye!' SharkCon wrote in the video's caption, 'All prepaid autographs and photo ops will automatically be refunded. There is no reason to reach out. It will take 5-10 business days plus what your bank takes for them to be processed. We are so sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you.' Fans showed support for Dreyfuss in the comments section. 'We are all praying for you!' one fan wrote. ' get well soon,' another fan said. 'Please get better soon,' someone else wrote. A fourth fan commented, 'Your health is most important. Don't feel bad. Get better quickly!' Dreyfuss starred in 'Jaws' alongside Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton. Most of the cast, including Scheider and Shaw, have passed away. The Steven Spielberg shark movie recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a National Geographic documentary 'Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story' directed by Laurent Bouzereau. Dreyfuss is still acting at age 77. He was recently in the action thriller 'Into the Deep' and will star in the upcoming Marlon Brando biopic led by Billy Zane.

Madeline Gaudreau Says She ‘Can't Do Life Without' Sister-in-Law Meredith Ahead of Katie's Wedding

Meredith and Madeline Gaudreau stayed close at sister-in-law Katie Gaudreau's wedding. 'Can't do life without you,' Madeline wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, July 11, sharing a photo with Meredith ahead of the ceremony. Meredith and Madeline were married to brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau until their tragic and sudden deaths in an August 2024 car accident. They were 31 and 29, respectively. The siblings' younger sister got married to her high school sweetheart, Devin Joyce, on Friday. The pair were due to get married the weekend of Johnny and Matthew's accident, but postponed their plans in the wake of their deaths. Every Time the Gaudreau Family Remembered Johnny and Matthew: Tributes to the NHL Star and His Brother Both Madeline and Meredith were in Katie's wedding party and wore matching champagne-colored halter dresses. Their children were also included in the ceremony. 'My forever date,' Madeline gushed on Friday of son Tripp, who was born months after Matthew's death. Meredith and Johnny's daughter, Noa, was a flower girl in the ceremony and wore a poofy white dress. The couple's young sons, Johnny Jr. and Carter, twinned in blue seersucker suits. Meredith carried them down the aisle before Katie's entrance. Katie and her now-husband made sure both Johnny and Matthew were honored when they finally said 'I do.' Katie Gaudreau Marries Fiance Devin Joyce Nearly 1 Year After Brothers Johnny and Matt's Deaths 'I am making the most special video for our wedding featuring the boys and their best dance moves and I found these amazing videos in Kristen's wedding video,' Katie previously wrote via Instagram in April, referring to her older sister. 'I hope one day my future children have a bond exactly like us four. On the lookout for all videos anyone has of them busting it down on the dance floor, kitchen, country concerts, or them just being them.' As for Meredith and Madeline, they have both been candid about losing their husbands and moving forward as single parents. 'I feel numb, angry, sad, blessed all at once. Some days, the thought of this new reality is debilitating, but mostly I just miss Matt,' Madeline said during the September 2024 funeral. 'Matt will surround his son for the rest of his life. I'm so thankful God gave us a child, a little Matty, to run around for life, to carry on his legacy. Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things with him we talked about.' She teamed up with Meredith earlier this year to launch a nonprofit foundation in Johnny and Matthew's names to 'make a positive impact' on the hockey world.

Boos and applause for Trump at FIFA Club World Cup final

US President Donald Trump (R) attended the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final football match between England's Chelsea and France's Paris Saint-Germain with his wife Melania (L) (Brendan SMIALOWSKI) Donald Trump experienced the agony and the ecstasy of football on Sunday as he was booed at the final of the FIFA Club World Cup -- even as he joined in some high-spirited celebrations with champions Chelsea. The US president was front and center as the winners took to the stage, grinning broadly in his red tie and clapping and jumping with the players as the jubilant Blues lifted the gleaming trophy, which he had presented to captain Reece James. Advertisement But moments earlier, loud booing could be heard among cheers and applause as Trump walked onto the pitch for the presentation with FIFA president Gianni Infantino -- before the music in the stadium was turned up. Earlier, the Republican billionaire was also applauded as he and First Lady Melania Trump arrived for the match at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey, just outside New York City. But when a jumbotron screen briefly showed Trump saluting to the US national anthem, yet more boos could be heard in the giant stadium, before the camera quickly cut away. The scorn did little to dampen the president's spirits as he handed out trophies to the star players including the Golden Ball for best player to Cole Palmer, followed by handshakes and medals to the defeated Paris Saint-Germain. Advertisement He later called the crowd "tremendous." "We had a great time," he told reporters as he landed at Joint Base Andrews outside the US capital Washington after the match. The Republican's appearance at the game also came on the first anniversary of the assassination attempt that he survived at an election rally in Pennsylvania. Trump has made no secret of his desire to use this year's club championship and next year's 2026 World Cup as symbols of the "Golden Age of America" during his second term in the White House. Next year's World Cup, the final of which will be held at the same stadium, will coincide with the 250th anniversary of America's independence. Advertisement Trump has even set up a White House task force to ensure next year's championship -- hosted jointly with Canada and Mexico -- goes smoothly. - 'He loves it' - Trump has fostered a close relationship with Infantino, who has been a frequent visitor to the White House. The president has kept the Club World Cup trophy next to his desk in the Oval Office since the FIFA president dropped by in March. Infantino, who is no stranger to dealing with hard-nosed world leaders including Russia's Vladimir Putin ahead of the 2018 World Cup, thanked Trump for his support on Saturday. He said Trump had "embraced immediately the importance of the FIFA Club World Cup, and of course of the World Cup next year." Advertisement Infantino also joked that Trump "certainly loves as well the trophy" -- whose gold-plated curves match the gilded makeover that the president has given the Oval Office. But Trump's fondness of football, or soccer as he would say, is also personal. The president's 19-year-old son Barron is a fan, as Infantino pointed out in a press conference at FIFA's new office in Trump Tower in New York on Saturday. Asked if Trump liked the game, Infantino replied: "Well I think he does. In his first term as president of the United States, there was a soccer goal in the garden of the White House. Advertisement "He then explained to me that his son loved football, and that he loved the game. And of course when you are a parent, you love what your children love, so I think that he loves it." As a boarding school student at the New York Military Academy, Trump himself also reportedly played the game for a season. - 'Go home' - But in typical form, Trump has also mixed political controversy with his football fandom. Hosting Italian side Juventus in the Oval Office in June, he delivered a diatribe on transgender people in sports before asking the players: "Could a woman make your team, fellas?" Advertisement Most of the players looked bemused before Juventus general manager Damien Comolli replied: "We have a very good women's team." "He's being very diplomatic," said Trump. Trump's hardline immigration crackdown -- part of his "America First" policy -- has meanwhile sparked fears that football fans will be discouraged from coming to the United States for the 2026 World Cup. In May, Vice President JD Vance said that fans would be "welcome to come... but when the time is up, they will have to go home." dk-st/
