Fans, Toronto city councillor call for better crowd control at new Rogers Stadium

Yahooa day ago
TORONTO — Fans who attended the inaugural concert at Toronto's new Rogers Stadium on Sunday night are calling for better crowd control after some say it took up to two hours to exit the venue.
With performances set to take place throughout the summer at the 50,000-capacity open-air venue in north Toronto, concertgoers say the stadium needs a different strategy to manage the throngs of people coming in and out of shows.
Shannon Spencer, who attended a concert by the K-pop group Stray Kids on Sunday evening, says the crowd came to a standstill at the end of the night as stadium staff were letting people out "in batches" and funnelling them towards nearby Downsview Park station.
With limited parking on site, fans were encouraged to take public transit, with rides from the stadium offered for free from Downsview Park TTC and GO Transit stations.
But even with extra trains departing after the concert, Spencer says the stations were congested and ill-equipped to have thousands of people passing through at once.
Others voiced complaints on social media about long wait times leaving the stadium and hours-long journeys to catch a train or a bus back home.
James Pasternak, city councillor whose ward includes the Downsview area where the stadium is located, said he heard complaints of a "surge of crowds" leaving the stadium at the end of the concert, as well as long lineups for security and bathrooms and limited access to water.
There were also concerns over high noise levels from residents close to the stadium, the councillor said.
"We want this to be a teaching moment where we can fix some of the problems," Pasternak said.
Spencer said she heard of people standing in line for over an hour to fill their water bottles at the free water refill stations, and said she worried it could put people at risk in hot weather.
She alerted medical staff three times as people around her were fainting when trying to leave the stadium, she said.
When Spencer returns to Rogers Stadium next week to see the British rock band Coldplay, she plans to leave the concert at least 20 minutes early to beat the crowds rushing out of the venue, she said.
"It's quite annoying because I paid a lot of money to see the whole show, but I have to do a trade off: do I want to get stuck in this situation again, or do I ensure I get home at a good time and be safe?" she said.
Pasternak said he's meeting with Northcrest Developments, which owns the land, and Live Nation Canada, the venue's operator, on Wednesday morning to discuss possible solutions.
Live Nation Canada did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lorde and Jim-E Stack Spark Dating Rumors at Glastonbury Music Festival

Lorde is stepping into a bold new chapter, both musically and personally. The Grammy-winning singer just released her album Virgin and gave a surprise Glastonbury performance. While at the British music festival, she also sparked rumors that she is dating producer and collaborator Jim-E Stack. The Sun ran photos of Stark and Lorde cuddling in the crowd. On June 30, Daily Mail added more fuel to the speculation by publishing photos of them arriving together at London Heliport. Stack had his arm around Lorde's shoulder. Neither Lorde nor Stack has confirmed the relationship, but fans are buzzing about the possibility. So, who exactly is Jim-E Stack? From his prolific music career to his yearslong creative partnership with Lorde, here's everything to know. Stack isn't just Lorde's rumored boyfriend; he's also her main creative partner on Virgin, the singer's fourth studio album that came out on June 27, 2025. He co-wrote and co-produced some of the project with Lorde (real name: Ella Yelich-O'Connor). In a June 27 Instagram post, Stack described their collaboration as something deeper than just studio work: 'Ella & I met and made some songs in 2022 before an album was on either of our minds,' he wrote. 'A year and a half later we had [an] album. There's no one I'd rather be in the trenches with. Eternally grateful for the journey together. Love you forever, Ella.' In a May 2025 British GQ interview, Stack elaborated on how the project came together: 'Finishing the album was amazing, but you get so close and familiar with it,' he said. 'It was basically just Ella and myself making and producing the whole [song, 'What Was That']; my close friend Dan [Nigro] helped me somewhat with the production. Sometimes you get in this zone where you're like, 'Okay, we love this; is anybody else gonna care?' Seeing people go nuts for it made us both feel we're not crazy.' While it isn't known exactly when they met or potentially began dating, Stack revealed their creative partnership began in early 2022. 'She hit me up in 2022 right before she was about to start rehearsing for the Solar Power Tour,' he told British GQ. 'I think she was eyeing what would be next for her creatively. We hung and got along super well, and then after a leg of the tour, she came to my studio, and we spent a week cranking out ideas.' 'Then in summer 2023, she had some festivals booked and asked for me to help put together some remix versions of Solar Power songs for her live show. There were also a couple songs we did, [like] 'Silver Moon,' that she wanted play live. And I think once she finished that festival run, she was feeling creatively energized, though also in a scary new phase of her life—she had just gone through a breakup of a very long-term, significant felt very true to where she was at personally—this new era, living alone in New York for the first time, and things just feeling fresh and new.' Born James Harmon Stack, the 33-year-old San Francisco native has spent over a decade quietly shaping some of the most experimental pop and indie records of the 2010s and 2020s. His collaborators include Bon Iver, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, HAIM, Empress Of, and Diplo, among others. In an April 2021 Interview conversation with Kacy Hill, Stack described the core of his production approach: 'When I'm working on someone else's stuff and there are decisions to be made in the production and writing of which I'm unsure, I can always defer to the person whose song it is to make that decision, and I don't have to make a big call.' Stack began playing drums at age 11 and started making beats as a teenager using a friend's old Mac. 'My beats were some collision of rap and grime,' he told Fader in 2014, describing them as 'really, really terrible' in the beginning. 'That's kind of the beauty of it: there was no vision whatsoever. It's just trying to make some shit.' He credits growing up in San Francisco with shaping his sound: 'Growing up in the city [when I did] meant exposure to different cultures,' he said. In Rolling Stone's May 2025 cover story, Lorde described how working with Stack helped her unlock a new phase in both her music and identity. She recalled a moment during the Virgin recording process when she texted him a photo of herself in men's jeans and asked for his opinion. Stack replied, 'I want to see the you that's in this picture represented in the music.' 'This was before I had any sense of my gender broadening at all,' she explained. Stack has shared several posts celebrating Virgin and his creative bond with Lorde. 'The kinda song I was put on earth to help make,' he wrote on X after 'What Was That' was released. In April, he shared a short video of him and Lorde working in the studio on 'What Was That,' captioning it, 'The night we finally got the drums right.'

Vera Wang Turned Heads in a Peekaboo LBD for Her Lavish 75th Birthday Celebration

Vera Wang is embracing the big 7-5, and did so by wowing in a seriously chic (and unique) little black dress! Earlier this week, Wang turned heads with photos from her 75th birthday celebration. And in the photos she shared on Instagram, we can see her looking like a stylish goddess. She posted the photos with the caption reading, 'Just celebrating my 75 9/10 – 76th birthday NEW YORK TIME with my Parisian crew and a few others who have been lifelong besties ! Thank you all for this special special night! 🖤🇫🇷🎂 Dress: #VeraWangHAUTE.' More from SheKnows Paulina Porizkova's 'Seriously Unflattering' Selfie Is to Remind Fans of One Lesson: 'This One Is for You' In the snapshots, we see Wang looking so darn gorgeous as she rocks a scoop-neck little black dress, which also had sheer paneling in the middle of her legs. It's cool, it's unique, and it's the perfect edgy look that Wang is known for wowing in. Now, this birthday was long-awaited by her fans, and she even commented on it. 'Birthday plans are up in the air. I mean, 75 is a lot of pressure. I think maybe a little bit like Warren Buffett [age 93] or Queen Elizabeth II [who reigned the British monarchy for seven decades until she was 96], I'm just going to keep prodding on because I feel as though I'm able to do my best work more and more,' Wang shared back in 2024. But now, she's embracing her new age in style. Along with being a confident superstar, Wang is insanely proud of her age, often saying how she doesn't understand ageism in the world, telling the BBC per Yahoo Life that she finds ageism 'so old-fashioned.' She added, 'You have to try and continue to grow in one way or another.'Best of SheKnows 15 Celebrity Men Who Are Always Gushing About Their Wives 25 of the Most Expensive Celebrity Weddings of All Time Dakota Brubaker & Ava Phillippe, & More of the Best Red Carpet Debuts From Celebrity Couples Over the Years

Trixie Mattel Just Dropped a 'Gay HBO Max Song'

Warner Bros. Discovery has teamed up with DJ/drag superstar Trixie Mattel on a new song intended to celebrate Pride. And oh yeah, it also honors HBO Max. 'Gay HBO Max Song' was released on Friday, June 27 — the penultimate weekday of Pride Month 2025. The music video, which ironically was released before Max officially rebranded de-branded back to 'HBO Max,' is meant to 'amplify queer joy,' a third-party PR rep for the collaboration told The Hollywood Reporter. More from The Hollywood Reporter K-Pop Girl Group Aespa Is Exactly Where They Want to Be Lorde Performs Surprise Glastonbury Set on Day of Album Release: "I'm Back and Completely Free" Lorde Summer Officially Arrives With New Album 'Virgin' The single lays a few very meme-able quotes from HBO/Max shows atop the beat, including Sydney Sweeney's 'I've never been happier!' line from Euphoria, Jennifer Coolidge's 'These gays are trying to kill me!' from The White Lotus, 'Whatever happened to fun?' from Sex & the City — and others. The selections mark 'HBO Max's most iconic quotes' as 'uplifted and made relevant by the queer community,' the pitch to press reads. 'With fans at the core of its success, HBO Max continues to inspire engagement and creative expression,' it continues. 'This initiative is a tribute to the creativity, passion and unwavering connection fans have shown to HBO Max content. The launch of the 'Gay HBO Max Song' celebrates the communities and fandoms that have helped establish HBO Max as a cultural phenomenon.' In 2022, Mattel had a Discovery+ show titled Trixie Motel. A sequel, Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home, premiered on Discovery+ (and Max) in 2024. Also, it's just catchy. Watch the 'Gay HBO Max Song' music video here: Max will revert to 'HBO Max' (but thankfully not the original HBO Max platform) sometime this summer. The service went from 'HBO Max' to just 'Max' in 2023 in an ill-conceived attempt to express the broadness of available content following the combination of WarnerMedia (at the time owned by AT&T) and Discovery, Inc. 'This evolution has been influenced by changing consumer needs, and the fact that no consumer today is saying they want more content, but most consumers are saying they want better content,' WBD said in a statement reversing course in May. 'With other services filling the more basic needs with volume, WBD has clearly distinguished itself through its quality and distinct stories, and no brand has done that better and more consistently over 50-plus years than HBO.' 'Returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering,' the statement continued. 'It is also a testament to WBD's willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach — leaning heavily on consumer data and insights — to best position itself for success.'
