Lancashire Thunder became the first winners of the new Vitality T20 Women's County Cup with a 32-run victory over Surrey in the final at Taunton.
Opener Tilly Kesteven hit 77 off 60 balls, putting on 86 for the first wicket with Emma Lamb (27), while Fi Morris made a rapid 27 as Lancashire posted 172-6.
Chasing the highest total on a day which also saw the two semi-finals played, Surrey made a fast start through openers Bryony Smith (25) and Kira Chathli (21).
Phoebe Franklin added a brisk 41, but spinner Sophie Ecclestone (4-12), left out of the England squad for the West Indies series, helped put the brakes on as Surrey fell well short.
Earlier Lancashire beat The Blaze by seven wickets in a rain-affected second semi-final to set up a showdown with Surrey who edged to a three-wicket win over Warwickshire, with two balls to spare, in a low-scoring game.
After showers had delayed their successful semi-final chase, Lancashire soon found themselves batting again after Surrey skipper Smith won the toss and opted to field first.
She may have regretted the decision when 20-year-old Kesteven raced to her first senior fifty, off just 37 balls, as the Red Rose raced to 86-0 after 10 overs.
Lamb fell the very next ball to Tilly Corteen-Coleman, but Lancashire continued to attack.
Off-spinner Kalea Moore removed Seren Smale for a brisk 19 and three balls later knocked back Kesteven's off-stump.
Yet Morris maintained the tempo with some late hitting, striking three fours and a huge six in a 12-ball 27, before falling to Moore (4-27) who picked up two more wickets in the final over.
In an explosive start to the chase, Chathli launched Kate Cross for two sixes, but was castled next ball by the England seamer, and Smith then hit four successive boundaries off Grace Potts before holing out going for a fifth.
Ecclestone - who sent down 15 dots - removed Paige Scholfield and Emma Jones in successive balls to pull back Surrey to 75-4 at the halfway mark.
As the run rate required climbed above 10, Franklin holed out for an enterprising 41 off 36 balls to give a third wicket to Ecclestone as Surrey slipped to 105-6.
There was defiant hitting from Moore (22 not out) and Ryana Macdonald-Gay (18), but it was too little, too late as Ecclestone had the final word by removing the latter.
The women's T20 Blast competition, which runs alongside the men's, gets under way on Friday with Surrey back in action at Taunton against Somerset.

A RUGBY club plans to create a 'high grade' clubhouse that will include changing rooms and a canteen on its grounds. Wibsey Rugby Club has submitted a planning application to install a large portable cabin on the sports field opposite to Wibsey Primary School. The 360 square metre facility will include a changing room with over 150 lockers, men's and women's changing rooms, a shower room, multi faith room, canteen with 80 seats and a food preparation area. The application says: 'Despite the small area of habitat lost (360 m²), the proposed biodiversity enhancements across the wider seven-acre site (wildflower planting, native tree and shrub establishment, and faunal features) will result in a significant net biodiversity gain, estimated conservatively at over 140 per cent.' A decision on the application is expected in September.

Unreachable to unplayable - how England had mixed opening day
At the start of the 40th over - after two long rain delays, with cloudy skies and a green pitch at his disposal - Josh Tongue had the in-form Ravindra Jadeja in his sights. The first ball of the over flew past wicketkeeper Jamie Smith for four byes. The second was short, wide and flashed for four. The third was a beauty on a good length, nibbling away from the left-hander and taking the edge. From unreachable to unplayable, bizarre to brilliant. Three balls that encapsulated England in their entirety, as they restricted India to 204-6 on day one of the fifth Test at The Oval. Neither Tongue, nor India's batters, seemed to know what was coming next, as the sheepish giggle after Jadeja's wicket suggested. Four overs previously, a similar delivery accounted for Sai Sudharsan after a gritty 107-ball 38, while he had started the day with a nine-ball over that conceded 11 runs from wides. "Tongue looked like the bowler I would least like to face," former England captain Michael Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special. "You'd have no chance of lining him up - he was wide down the leg side, wide down the off side, half-volley, bouncer and then all of a sudden right in the perfect zone." Tongue was not the sole bowler guilty of inconsistency, though that was probably to be expected with England's depleted stock of quicks. Already without captain Ben Stokes through a shoulder injury and Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse for rotation reasons, late in the day their fortunes went from bad to worse. It is fair to say that stand-in skipper Ollie Pope has a headache. India fail to punish England's 'liquorice all sorts' Despite England's wayward day, however, India were unable to assert their dominance when they are in need of a win to avoid a series defeat. England bowled 20% of their deliveries down the leg side and attacked the stumps with just 12% - the second-lowest for any innings in the series. But, at the same time, they drew 24% false shots from India, the highest for day one throughout this series. But considering they were faced with tricky batting conditions, Tongue's erratic spell at one end and Atkinson's economic efforts at the other, perhaps it is of little surprise that India's minds were somewhat scrambled. "Tongue made India do things they don't want to do," former England batter Sir Alastair Cook told BBC Test Match Special. "He has bowled a couple of absolute jaffas, but liquorice all sorts is what we used to call them when you're bowling like that. When you face someone who's so inconsistent, you feel you've got to be scoring. "You think there's plenty of opportunities to score, but because it could be anywhere it really upsets your rhythm. It's that mental thing, knowing he's not bowling well so I should be going after him and he drags you into shots." India's stubborn pair of Karun Nair and Washington Sundar led them out of a pickle from 153-6, playing with assured control that the rest of the top order had been lacking. It was a curious day with neither side able to seize momentum for significant periods, but there is a sense that England missed their opportunity considering the conditions and India's loose dismissals. "England, if they're being brutally honest with themselves - on a pitch that they've bowled on today with 8mm of grass - there's been enough seam movement and swing that they would've fancied bowling India out today," Vaughan added. "They'll be thinking, if two of us bowled like Gus Atkinson then we'd have bowled them out."
