Peak has emerged as a notable entry in the 'friendslop' genre, with developers Aggro Crab and Landfall creating the co-op game in about a month. The game has reached over 100,000 concurrent players, according to the developers, who said it was designed to be 'something that's simple and fun.'
The term friendslop, discussed by Aggro Crab developer Caelan Pollock, refers to games that rely on players and their friends to generate humour and interaction.
Pollock explained, 'When I hear the term friendslop, I think it's something that assumes that you and your friends will make up the difference in comedy and interaction in what the game is lacking.'
Pollock also described how the collaboration with Landfall came about, explaining that the teams were 'fast friends' and developed Peak after an idea was 'originally pitched in a hot tub in Sweden.'
The developers noted the game's title, Peak, came from discussions among the team, with Pollock adding, 'Even minus the joke, I think it's a great name for the game.'
Fan reviews online have highlighted Peak's accessibility, praising it for creating moments of humour and enjoyment during play sessions while maintaining a low barrier to entry.
Players have described it as 'fun with friends without overcomplication' and 'a game that lets you create your own moments.'
Peak demonstrates the potential of smaller-scale projects to find an audience, with developers highlighting their priority of enjoyment over large-scale production goals.

PEAK devs secretly join Twitch games as Bingbong the toy with real-time voice chat cameos

Developers of the viral hit PEAK are sneaking into live games by controlling Bingbong, the in-game stuffed animal companion, to interact directly with players on Twitch. The unexpected appearances have sparked surprise and confusion, with some players initially believing Bingbong's voice lines were pre-recorded — until he started responding to their questions in real time. In one stream, Bingbong said, 'Don't leave me…' after players tried to move on without him. Another shouted, 'Why does it sound like a real person in our call?' One dev even screamed, 'I'm in the water!' and made unexpected comments like 'I love Pride Month.' It became clear the voice was live, leading a stunned streamer to admit, 'We almost left a real dev just in the water.' Bingbong also has a dedicated voice volume slider, hinting that more antics might be planned. The game, developed during a one-month game jam by indie teams Aggro Crab and Landfall, launched in June 2025. PEAK quickly sold 5 million copies and hit over 102,000 concurrent players on Steam. Despite the fast success, the devs have kept the tone light, playful, and community-focused. Instead of disappearing post-launch, the developers have added surprise elements that blur the line between in-game character and real human presence. The trolling has been received as humorous and fitting with the chaotic, meme-worthy style of the game.

Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak to lead The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

Lionsgate has officially cast Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak in lead roles for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming prequel to the hit dystopian saga. Set to release in theaters on November 20, 2026, the film explores the backstory of fan-favorite character Haymitch Abernathy, played by Zada, with Peak starring as his love interest, Lenore Dove Baird. Based on the bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before the original Hunger Games trilogy and 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It follows the events surrounding the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Francis Lawrence returns as director, with a screenplay by Billy Ray. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman praised the casting, saying, 'Jo and Whitney carry this legacy forward with incredible heart, depth, and fire.' The casting team auditioned hundreds of actors before finding Zada and Peak, who delivered a chemistry that sealed their roles. Zada is currently known for his work in the upcoming Prime Video series We Were Liars and Netflix's East of Eden. Peak is recognized for her roles in Max's Gossip Girl, Hocus Pocus 2, and as the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance. The Hunger Games franchise has earned over $3.3 billion globally. Sunrise on the Reaping is expected to be another box office hit, as the novel sold 1.5 million copies in its first week—more than any previous installment.
