A Wrexham transfer target's dad appears to have hinted that a record £7.5m move is close with a cryptic post, sparking fan excitement as the club gears up for the Championship Nathan Broadhead's dad appears to have dropped a major hint that his son is about to complete a move to Wrexham in a club-record deal. The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, were reported to have tabled a £7.5million bid for the Ipswich Town forward last week. Broadhead, who was previously part of Wrexham's academy, joined the Tractor Boys from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. He played a key role in Ipswich 's back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship, before being restricted to just seven Premier League starts last season. Now in the final year of his contract at Portman Road, talks over the Wales international's proposed move were initially understood to be progressing well. The deal looked to have stalled at the weekend though due to injuries and transfer interest in other Ipswich attackers. However, the 27-year-old's dad, Mark Broadhead, has offered hope to Wrexham fans after sharing a cryptic post from his personal Facebook account. Simply captioned "12 years later," it shows an image of a young Nathan playing for Everton in 2013, followed by one of him celebrating a goal for Ipswich last year. The final picture, titled "Now," shows Nathan sporting a Wrexham shirt while kneeling on the pitch at the Racecourse Ground back in his academy days. While the deal has not been confirmed by either club, supporters have taken it as a sign that his return is imminent after a screengrab of the post was shared on X by the Fearless in Devotion fan account. One person replied: "That's all the info we need." While someone else posted: "As good as an official announcement, that." Another supporter wrote: "Someone may have just let it slip also outside the ground too." Ipswich fans also seemed convinced, with one adding: "You've got yourselves one hell of a player. Good luck this season." Broadhead has bagged 23 goals in 83 appearances for Ipswich in total and his arrival at Wrexham would be seen as a big coup. The Welsh side are preparing for their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years after securing promotion from League One in April. Manager Phil Parkinson has so far signed eight players this summer as he looks to improve his squad. Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore became the latest addition on Tuesday, joining on a three-year contract in a deal reportedly worth £2m. Wrexham face a tough start to the season as they travel to face relegated Southampton on Saturday in their opening game. Liberato Cacace is another new face who signed up last month from Italian outfit Empoli, and the left-back is looking forward to getting started. Explaining why he signed, he told the BBC: "There was interest in Italy, but for me, I'm a big football fan as well. I watch a lot of football and I've always watched English football, from the Premier League to the Championship so I know the level I'm heading into. "It was always a big dream of mine to play in the UK. Obviously Wrexham having so much publicity in the media as well you could see what the club was like. It's a very exciting project and I'm also very excited to start the season as well." He added: "I've already had chats with the players and with the manager and I think I'm settling in pretty well. I'm a professional person as well so I always like to keep fit. I'm going to use every day to make sure that against Southampton I'll be ready to go." Bengals QB Joe Burrow to play 'several series' vs. Eagles
August 5 - Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and select starters will see action in Cincinnati's preseason opener against the host Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, coach Zac Taylor told reporters Tuesday. "Several series is what we'll give those starters," Taylor said. Burrow, 28, has thrown a total of eight passes in preseason games the past four years. The two-time Pro Bowl selection completed 5 of 7 passes in the 2024 preseason, his first action in an exhibition game since 2021 when he threw an incompletion in his only attempt. Taylor also noted that his starters will see their most preseason playing time in their Aug. 18 date with the host Washington Commanders. Per Taylor, tight end Mike Gesicki, defensive end Trey Hendrickson, defensive tackle BJ Hill and defensive backs Cam Taylor-Britt and Daxton Hill will sit out Thursday's game versus the Eagles. Cincinnati's starters are not expected to play in the preseason finale against the visiting Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 23. Giving Burrow more preseason snaps may reflect the Bengals' desire to avoid another slow start to the regular season. Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel to ride for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe from 2026
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel has sealed a blockbuster transfer from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, effective from 2026. His contract, which had been due to run until the end of 2026, has been terminated by mutual agreement to facilitate a move to the German team. Evenepoel's future has been one of the biggest topics of debate and gossip over the last couple of transfer windows. Ineos Grenadiers were reportedly interested in the Belgian in 2023 and speculation was rife that he would join Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe last summer, both rumours he denied at the time. However, the likelihood of an imminent transfer escalated after the Tour de France this summer as several members of the Red Bull hierarchy, including sports director Rolf Adag, departed the team, potentially paving the way for members of Evenepoel's entourage to take up new roles. Soudal Quick-Step released a statement on Tuesday saying: 'Representatives of Remco informed the team's management that he did not wish to discuss an extension of his current agreement, which expires at the end of 2026. After taking some time to consult with our sponsors and partners, the team's ownership and management have decided that it is in best interest of everyone to agree that Remco can move at the end of the current 2025 season. 'While we regret Remco's decision to leave, we will foster the memories that we have made and will continue to strive together to achieve some significant results for the rest of the season.' His new team shared the news in quite a different manner, saying: 'A new chapter begins for one of the most defining riders of his generation. Remco Evenepoel's arrival marks more than just a milestone for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe – it is a clear signal. With renewed confidence and bold ambition, the team is setting its course to become one of the most attractive forces on the international cycling stage in the years to come.' Evenepoel claimed a historic double Olympic gold in Paris last year, winning both the time trial and road race, as well as the Vuelta a Espana title in 2022. He is arguably the best time-triallist in the world, with two world titles to his name, as well as victories in two Tour de France TTs, and is also an accomplished Classics rider with two Monument wins, both at Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He finished on the podium of the Tour de France last year but, having suffered a serious crash in training last December, was on the back foot preparing for this year's race. The Belgian abandoned after losing chunks of time in the Pyrenees, later revealing that he had raced with a broken rib. The 25-year-old turned professional with Soudal Quick-Step in 2019. The team had previously been more of a Classics-focused squad, and the news of this transfer suggests that Evenepoel believes he needs support for a Grand Tour bid from more of a heavyweight outfit. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe have built up more of a Grand Tour-focused team in recent years, particularly since the energy giant came on board in 2024. However, Evenepoel's move means the Red Bull bus is increasingly crowded with Grand Tour contenders. Four-time Vuelta champion Primoz Roglic, who has also won the Giro d'Italia, has been the outfit's primary hope in the last two seasons. But the recent success of youngsters Giulio Pellizzarri and Florian Lipowitz, alongside the presence of former Giro champion Jai Hindley and podium finisher Dani Martinez, means there could be something of a battle for supremacy in 2026.
