Kochi: In a major drug bust in Ernakulam, city police arrested three individuals with synthetic drugs on Thursday. Police seized 22.71g of MDMA from Vazhakkala in Thrikkakara and 2.57g of MDMA near Ernakulam KSRTC stand. From Thrikkakara, police arrested Shameer P M, 49, of Palluruthy with the contraband and confiscated Rs 92,500. The accused has three other drug-related cases against him, said police. Police added that further action, including invoking Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act) against him, is under consideration. Meanwhile, Sony Jinnas C, 24, and Sanal V B, 24, both from Kaloor, were caught allegedly with 2.57g of MDMA from a lodge near KSRTC stand. Kochi city district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) team, led by narcotic cell assistant commissioner M B Latheef, apprehended the accused. Both were presented in court and remanded in judicial custody. Smuggling of MDMA and ganja is steadily on the rise in the district. Ernakulam rural police had arrested two West Bengal natives with 13kg of ganja a few days ago. Over 70 youths were arrested in the district in the past two months in various narcotic cases. MDMA, LSD, hashish, heroin and ganja remain the major drugs peddled in Ernakulam.

T'puram: Kollam East police on Wednesday arrested the man who was accused of flashing in a moving KSRTC bus at Mevaram on Monday night. Police had registered a case based on the complaint of a woman passenger. Police identified the arrested person as Sunil Kumar, 43, of Mylakkad. He was produced in the court and was remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days on charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 75 (1) for sexual harassment. The accused, who went absconding after the incident, was traced near Ithikkara Bridge. A police team arrested him after some people spotted him in a thicket on the riverbank. The accused flashed after boarding the bus from Kottiyam. Only a few passengers were in the bus at the time of the incident. However, the woman recorded a video and uploaded it on social media. Police said that the accused was married, but his wife eloped with someone some years ago. He was living with his father, mother and sister at the house, said police.
