NICE Road toll fee hiked by up to Rs 5

Time of India20 hours ago
Bengaluru: Toll on NICE Road, which provides congestion-free commuting on the periphery of Bengaluru linking suburbs and tech and industrial hubs, has been increased by up to 7% effective July 1 for various categories of vehicles.
Nandi Economic Corridor Enterprises (NECE), which operators the road that connects Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road covering a length of 45km and comprising seven stretches, called the revision an annual exercise. According to a public notice, the revision is in line with the concession agreement signed with Karnataka government in 2000.
For cars, toll fees have been increased by Rs 3 to Rs 5, depending on the stretch.
For example, on the longest stretch — from Mysuru Road to Magadi Road — toll has gone up from Rs 65 to Rs 70.

Fees have been revised for two-wheelers, too, on certain stretches. For instance, toll for the stretch from Hosur Road to Bannerghatta Road has increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30. However, there are no changes in toll rates for two-wheelers on four other stretches.
Recently, toll fees were revised for Electronics City elevated corridor and Kanakapura Road, while NHAI has proposed toll collection for the 70km Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway unofficially opened within Karnataka limits.

Delhi-Jaipur In 3 Hours: Trial Run On Expressway Link Begins

Jaipur: The trial run on the Bandikui-Jaipur Link Expressway, connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Jaipur, started on Wednesday. The journey from Jaipur to Delhi will now take just 2.5 to 3 hours, offering a faster and smoother travel experience. The trial run started at 8 a.m., and no toll will be levied during this trial period of ten days. The ultramodern expressway is undergoing quality checks and facility testing through the trial runs to identify and rectify any shortcomings before toll collection officially begins in the coming days, said officials. On the first day, the expressway was opened directly for traffic. Additionally, the Khuri Interchange has been made operational to manage traffic coming from the Manoharpur-Kauthun highway. If all goes smoothly, traffic from other interchanges will also be allowed on the expressway within a day or two. The 67-kilometre-long, four-lane access-controlled expressway stretches from Bandikui in Dausa district to Jaipur in Rajasthan and is nearly complete. Vehicles will be permitted to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h on this modern roadway. Impressively, construction was completed ahead of schedule. Once fully operational, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time and will reduce the journey from Bandikui to Jaipur to just 25-30 minutes, compared to the previous duration of over an hour, which will eventually reduce travel time from Jaipur to Delhi and so on. Furthermore, with its link to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, travel time from Gurugram to Bandikui will be reduced to just three hours. Other tracks which will be connected on the Expressway include Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Manoharpur-Kauthun Highway (via Khuri Interchange) and additional interchanges which will be opened soon, depending on trial success. "All preparations for toll collection are complete. As soon as we receive the green signal from higher authorities, toll operations will commence," said B.S. Joiya, Project Director, NHAI Dausa Unit. According to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the 66.91-kilometre-long Bandikui-Jaipur Expressway has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1,368 crore. During the ongoing trial phase, all vehicles except tractors, motorcycles, and other restricted categories will be allowed to pass without interruption. Once fully operational, the new expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time, with the journey from Jaipur to Delhi expected to take just 2.5 to 3 hours. Proposed Toll Rates (for private cars) include Rs 150 for the 66.91 km Jaipur-Bandikui Expressway, Rs 550 to Rs 560 for the full Jaipur-Bandikui-Sohna stretch, Rs 130 for the Sohna-Gurugram six-lane highway and Rs 680 to Rs 690 total toll between Jaipur and Delhi.

Mumbai: BMC plans pedestrian subway linking metro, racecourse, and Haji Ali parking hub

MUMBAI: In a major step toward improving pedestrian access in South Mumbai, the BMC is planning a dedicated pedestrian subway. This new underground passage will connect the Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station to Mahalaxmi Racecourse and the Coastal Road's parking hub at Haji Ali. The objective is to ensure seamless movement between the metro, racecourse, and coastal amenities. The main subway will run from the Nehru Science Centre exit of the Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station to Mahalaxmi Racecourse, with a branch extending 120 meters. The main stretch of the subway will be 1 km long and 7.5 meters wide. Two design options are under consideration — one that connects the subway to the car park and another that doesn't. If connected, the subway will have a width of 18 to 25 meters at the preliminary stage. To take this forward, the MMRCL will appoint a consultant for a detailed feasibility and project report. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between BMC and MMRCL to define roles, responsibilities, and obligations. It will now accommodate 1,200 cars. This redesign became necessary after the cancellation of a proposed public parking lot at Amarsons Interchange in Breach Candy. Meanwhile, 70 hectares of open space around the racecourse are being developed by Reliance Industries Limited, making it South Mumbai's largest open space development. Bengaluru Rural district likely to be renamed Bengaluru North to gain brand edge

BENGALURU: After renaming Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, the state govt is now considering a proposal to rename Bengaluru Rural district as 'Bengaluru North', a move that sources say is aimed at replicating the branding and development benefits seen in the Ramanagara renaming exercise. The proposal is expected to come up for discussion during the state cabinet meeting scheduled to be held at Nandi Hills, near Bengaluru, on Wednesday. Officials said the cabinet will also take up a proposal to rename Bagepalli town in Chikkaballapur district as Bhagyanagar. You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru Bengaluru Rural district was originally part of the undivided Bengaluru district until 1986. It was formally carved out as a separate district on Aug 15, 1986. In 2007, the district was further bifurcated to form Ramanagara district, which has now been renamed as Bengaluru South. Currently, Bengaluru Rural comprises four taluks: Hoskote, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, and Nelamangala. "After the Ramanagara renaming, there has been a strong demand from MLAs of Bengaluru Rural and some Bengaluru ministers. They believe the 'rural' tag is deceiving investment in their district," said a govt source familiar with the matter. There has also been a long-standing demand from certain quarters to rename Bengaluru Rural after 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan, who was born in Devanahalli, located in the district. Last month, the govt formally approved the decision to rename Ramanagara as Bengaluru South. The move, originally proposed in 2023, had sparked mixed reactions. While some hoped it would bring more infrastructure and attention to the area, others feared it would erase Ramanagara's distinct identity. Despite these concerns, the govt went ahead with the renaming without much public consultation on the implications for the region's cultural and historical identity. The outcome of Wednesday's cabinet discussion will determine whether Bengaluru Rural gets a new name - and, perhaps, a new direction.
