Chirag Paswan says he will contest Bihar election, backs demand for domicile policy in government jobs
Mr. Paswan, who heads the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), made the announcement while addressing a rally in Saran district that borders his Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency.

"People have been asking me whether Chirag Paswan will contest the Assembly elections. I want to announce from Saran that yes, Chirag Paswan will contest the elections for the sake of a better future of Bihar," he said, evoking thunderous applause.
"I will contest the election for the people of Bihar, for my brothers, mothers, for my sisters. We will build a system in Bihar that will truly take the State forward on the path of development. I will realise the dreams of my father and work for 'Bihar first, Bihari first'. I will live and die for Bihar and its people," he added.

Mr. Paswan also supported the demand for introducing a domicile policy for government jobs in the State, becoming the only NDA leader to do so. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has promised implementation of "100% domicile" if the Mahagathbandhan, helmed by his RJD, came to power in the State after the elections.

"For the sake of the youth of Bihar, I am in support of the introduction of a domicile policy in government jobs. This has been a long-standing demand of job seekers," Mr. Paswan said.
"I must inform you that the domicile policy was introduced in 2006 but it was withdrawn by the opposition parties when they came to power. The RJD and Congress never think about the betterment of the youth of the State. They always mislead people. If they come to power, they will snatch over half of your wealth via inheritance tax," he claimed.

The Nitish Kumar government has already ruled out the possibility of the introduction of a domicile policy, stating that any such move would be against the Constitution.
Attacking the RJD, Mr. Paswan alleged that the people talking about Bihar's development now are the ones who had ruined the State in the '90s.

Addressing an event on 50 years of Emergency in New Delhi on June 26, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabole said, "Babasaheb Ambedkar never used these words in the preamble of the Constitution. The words were added during Emergency, when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament did not function, and the judiciary became lame."

No one fully satisfied, says poll panel as Bihar voter roll clean-up continues
In poll-bound Bihar, the Election Commission's massive voter list overhaul has left political parties across the board dissatisfied, for reasons ranging from alleged disenfranchisement to questions over timing and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar admitted that "for one reason or another, no one (political parties) seems fully satisfied with the current status of the voter list," even as the Election Commission goes ahead with its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, covering nearly eight crore voters in the state ahead of Assembly elections due later this the past four months, the Election Commission has held nearly 5,000 meetings with representatives of several political parties. All 4,123 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 775 District Election Officers (DEOs) and 36 Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) have been engaged in the drive, which aims to weed out ineligible names and ensure an updated roll ahead of the upcoming elections. However, the revision has sparked a legal and political battle. Bihar's chief opposition party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has challenged the process in the Supreme Court, alleging it could strike off over two crore voters and questioning why Bihar alone is being targetted when the last nationwide revision was conducted in BJP-led NDA has defended the exercise, citing rapid urbanisation, migration, unreported deaths and the inclusion of illegal immigrants as reasons for the update. It has also accused the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan of raising 'excuses' in anticipation of the the poll panel has insisted that the process is transparent and warned voters against misleading and false claims being circulated by "some people" without reading the official orders. As per the June 24 directive, draft rolls will be published on August 1, including names for which forms are received by July 25.
