Bradford youngster kicks off new TV show with Lionesses
Daya Singh Athwal, 12, is in CBeebies series Football Fantastics, which starts tomorrow.
The live-action scripted series is described as "a high-energy, feel-good comedy that celebrates friendship, fun, and the beautiful game".
Set in Yorkshire, it follows six children who come together every weekend at their local football group, where friendships are forged and epic adventures unfold both on and off the pitch.
The series, produced by Strike, the team behind CBBC hit series Jamie Johnson FC, features cameos from Lionesses including Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly, Fran Kirby and BBC Sports Personality of the Year Beth Mead, as well as cameos from England's Olly Watkins and former Millwall and Leyton Orient player Charlotte Lynch in her acting debut - plus special regular guest star, former England goalkeeper Jill Scott.
Daya, who attends drama classes at Baildon-based drama school and acting agency, Articulate Agency, has had roles in the Secret Lives of 5 Year Olds, two TV commercials and short films Raj's Story and The Boat Story.
"Being part of the Football Fantastics was amazing," said Daya. "I got to do two of my favourite things at once - play football and act! I had so much fun and learned a lot too. My weekly drama classes with Articulate and LAMDA lessons really helped me to feel confident on set and bring my character to life."
Football Fantastics comes to CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in line with BBC's Summer of Sport and the Women's Euros.
Says Jill Scott: "It was a pleasure to be involved in such an exciting, funny and important show.
"The kids are so talented and inspiring for anyone involved in the game at any level, especially with a female coach!'
Creator of Football Fantastics Sam Talbot said: 'With Football Fantastics, we wanted to capture the sheer joy of the game - the laughter, the friendships, the unforgettable moments that happen both on and off the pitch in kids' football clubs, for both them and their parents.
"It's a love letter to grassroots football and the amazing kids who turn up each week just for the fun of it. We're thrilled to have legends like Jill Scott and the Lionesses bring their magic to the show. It's all about inspiring the next generation while having a blast along the way."
Articulate Agency works with top UK and US casting directors, producers and show runners to secure high-profile, roles. Youngsters at Articulate have been in TV dramas including Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax and All Creatures Great and Small.

Alison Hammond's son Aidan reveals he'd flee home after disputes with star
TV presenter Alison Hammond's son Aidan has revealed he would flee their home and find respite at his grandmother's house when they argued. The 20-year-old, who Hammond shares with her former fiancé Noureddine Boufaied, features alongside the This Morning presenter on the latest series of Celebrity Gogglebox. Speaking on the Spin Justice podcast, Aidan said: 'When we were in the flat, she [his grandmother] had a house pretty much opposite us, so we could literally leave and run across the road. 'So, when my mum was doing my head in, I'd just go to my nan's' he explained. Hammond's mother Maria died of lung and liver cancer in January 2020. The 20-year-old said he and his grandmother shared a 'very, very close' bond throughout his life. 'She's passed away now, but we were very close all the time – me, my mum and my nan – and that was kind of the little trio,' he said. Hammond and her son will be joined by the presenter's sister, Sandra, on the new series of Celebrity Gogglebox, who the TV star has described as 'fabulous'. She said in a statement ahead of the series: 'I'm so excited to be doing Celebrity Gogglebox with my son Aidan. We've always loved watching telly together and now we get to do it on the sofa for the nation. 'It's a real family affair too because my fabulous sister Sandra is getting involved as well. Expect laughs, eye rolls and lots of commentary, classic Hammond style!' The 50-year-old This Morning star is now dating 27-year-old masseuse David Putman, who she says is 'so mature and sensible' despite their significant age gap. Of Putman's relationship with her son, the presenter previously told the Parenting Hell podcast: 'When they met, he really liked him and thought he was lovely – and thank goodness for that! Normally, Aidan hates anyone I date.' Celebrity Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.

Tennis Fans Want Wimbledon Reporter Banned For 'Unprofessional' Question
Tennis Fans Want Wimbledon Reporter Banned For 'Unprofessional' Question originally appeared on The Spun. For the second time in the past week, the media has made a truly bizarre remark about Emma Raducanu. Advertisement Following a straight-sets victory over Matteo Bellucci on Friday, Cam Norrie spoke to the media about his performance. He seems fairly comfortable on the grass, which isn't a surprise considering he made the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2022. Unfortunately for Norrie, his press conference was overshadowed by a ridiculous question from an unidentified reporter. "Apart from everyone here loving tennis, some of the gossip has been about who Emma Raducanu is dating," a reporter asked Norrie. "Can I ask if you're dating her? Can we get to the bottom of this please?" Norrie initially replied, "Sorry?" Instead of getting the hint, the reporter once again asked him about Raducanu's love life. Advertisement "I'm trying to find out who's dating Emma Raducanu," the reporter continued. "It seems to be going around all the men's singles. I was wondering if you're dating her, please?" Norrie, who is in a relationship with Louise Jacobi, handled that awful question like a total pro. "I'm not [dating Raducanu]. No. You can ask her though," Norrie said. Cam Norrie gets asked about Emma Raducanu's personal Tennis fans were understandably disturbed by this reporter's question. Some fans are calling for this reporter to receive a lifetime ban from Wimbledon. "This is so absurd that not even 'Tennis Centel' could come up with it," one fan said. "Embarrassing that this is what an actual journalist would think of let alone come up with for a question in a press conference." Advertisement "That reporter needs to be banned," a second fan declared. "What an absolutely disgusting question! The private lives of players are none of our business. Why do sports journalists continue to humiliate themselves," a third fan wrote. "Whoever asked that question should be banned for life from the Tournament," another fan commented. Just a week ago, Raducanu was basically asked if she's dating two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz. "There's been lots of chatter online about your friendship with Carlos," a reporter asked. "Is there any truth behind the rumors?" Raducanu replied, "We're just good friends." Advertisement While we understand there's plenty of hype surrounding Raducanu, reporters shouldn't be asking about her personal life. There's no place for that type of behavior. The Heaton Park residency infamously began with the first having to be pulled after a generator failed. A row before a subsequent show in Paris led the Mancunian legends to split. But at 8.15pm, after millions of fans clamoured to get hold of tickets, the tour finally began. Oasis play Cardiff for a second time tonight. It was also a momentous night for Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, a founding member of Oasis who left the group in 1999 but has since performed with Liam Gallagher's band Beady Eye, and on the frontman's solo tours. The rhythm guitarist took to the stage with both Gallagher brothers for the first time in over two decades.
