Balamory star confirms return in reboot after tearful visit to location

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A beloved face from the original Balamory crew has excitedly confirmed their return to the much-loved pre-school series on CBeebies. This comes after the BBC's announcement that the show is set for a "reboot" with a fresh "revamp". The nostalgic wave hit fans last year when it was revealed that Balamory would make a comeback over two decades after its final episode. The broadcaster shared that viewers could anticipate the reboot's arrival in 2026, marking the start of two newly commissioned series. The BAFTA-winning programme first graced our screens on the BBC children's channel back in 2002, capturing the hearts of many with tales from the fictional island community off Scotland's shores. After four successful series, the show wrapped up its storytelling in 2005. Among the cherished cast was Julie Wilson Nimmo, now 53, who portrayed the ever-engaging Miss Hoolie. As the narrator and a nursery teacher, Miss Hoolie was central to the show's charm and narrative drive. (Image: BBC) Julie has since taken to social media to confirm her involvement in the upcoming Balamory series. In a candid exchange on Instagram, following a post about her yoga activities, a fan queried: "Are you going to be in Balamory reboot?" To which Julie, having liked the comment, gave a succinct and affirmative reply: "Yup." The BBC previously hinted that the upcoming series would feature familiar faces from the celebrated show alongside a slew of fresh Balamory residents, although no casting specifics were released at that time. The quaint village of Tobermory served as the scenic backdrop for Balamory's original filming. It was declared last year that the fresh instalments could once again grace the same locale or perhaps a new setting in Scotland, with Rothesay being considered at the moment. On a nostalgic return to Tobermory during her BBC Scotland programme Jules and Greg's Wild Swim, where she explored wild swimming spots with spouse Greg Hemphill, Julie expressed sentimental sentiments. (Image: namaste_nimmo/Instagram) As she entered the charming village on the documentary, which aired last year, she disclosed to Greg: "This is magical." Her emotions ran high as she confessed: "I actually feel really emotional." Julie, who subsequently enjoyed photo opportunities with admirers, emoted: "I'm pure welling up." Speaking on the anticipated revival, Julie enthused: "It's the craziest and best news ever that Balamory is coming back. I seriously think this is bigger than the Oasis reunion. Everyone I know loves the show and has been missing it." In its initial announcement regarding the revamp last year, the BBC noted that the forthcoming series will unfold in the fictional town of Balamory, revolving around a nursery school and its educator, and mentioned an interest in revisiting "some" of the original ensemble, together with introducing "a host of new faces". Kate Morton, Head of Commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education, remarked: "A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together."

Balamory favourite Miss Hoolie confirms she'll return for show's reboot

Balamory actor Julie Wilson Nimmo has confirmed she'll reprise her role as Miss Hoolie in the CBeebies programme's forthcoming reboot. The 53-year-old actor played the kooky nursery teacher on the children's show, set in Tobermory, Scotland, for its duration from 2002 to 2005. It was announced in September last year that Balamory will be returning to TV screens in 2026, 15 years after the series originally drew to a close. Nimmo casually broke the news that she would appear on the show's return. Asked by a fan online if she'd be in the reboot, she replied: 'Yup.' In a previous interview with the Daily Record, Nimmo said the Balamory reboot was 'the craziest and best news ever,' adding the news of the forthcoming series return was 'bigger than the Oasis reunion'. The BBC has commissioned two new series of the show, with some of the original characters expected to return for the revamp. The two new series will consist of 10 episodes each, and further information and cast details will be announced in due course. Andrew Agnew, who played PC Plum on the programme, told BBC Radio Scotland's Lunchtime Live this month that he would be eager to appear. 'If they ask me to go back then I'll absolutely be there with bells on, I'm sure,' he said. 'But at the moment we're all just getting excited at the fact that it's happening. I don't think it would be the same if we weren't involved in it.' In 2022, Nimmo and Juliet Cadzow, who played Edie McCredie, spoke about their hopes for a reunion. 'It's weird when you think about it, because different bands get back together, and I was saying the other day, we were kind of like a band, our gang could get back together,' Nimmo told BBC Radio WM. The pair described their experience filming Balamory as 'such a lovely time for us all'. Cadzow, who is yet to be confirmed for the reboot, said: 'It was very magical and I was so proud to have been a part of something so special.'

Balamory star emotional as she rejoins CBeebies show after reboot

Balamory, which starred the likes of Julie Wilson Nimmo as Miss Hoolie, is set to return after the BBC announced last year that it had commissioned two new series for CBeebies A cast member from the original Balamory has announced that they will be part of the pre-school show's return on CBeebies. It comes after the BBC announced plans for a "reboot" of the show, which is said to be getting a "revamp". It was announced last year that Balamory would be revived more than 20 years since it last aired. The broadcaster said at the time that the reboot is expected to launch in 2026 with the first of two new series that it had commissioned. ‌ The BAFTA -winning show, which launched on the BBC children's channel in 2002, focused on the fictional island community off the coast of Scotland. It ran for four series before coming to an end two decades ago in 2005. ‌ It included Julie Wilson Nimmo, now 53, who played Miss Hoolie, among its cast. Miss Hoolie, who acted as the narrator of each episode, was introduced as a nursery teacher and remained the lead character throughout. Julie has now confirmed that she will be back for the new series of Balamory. She shared the news in response to a fan who asked about the prospect in the comments section of a post about the actor doing yoga on Sunday. The fan asked in the comments section on Instagram over the weekend: "Are you going to be in Balamory reboot?" Julie, who liked the comment, addressed the prospect in a reply. She simply responded to the fan: "Yup." It was previously suggested by the BBC that the new series will feature characters from the original show, as well as introducing a host of new residents of Balamory. No casting details were included in the initial announcement, though. Balamory had been filmed in the village of Tobermory. It was announced last year that the new series will either be filmed in the same location or elsewhere in Scotland, with the prospect of Rothesay mentioned at the time. ‌ Julie returned to Tobermory at the end of her BBC Scotland show Jules and Greg's Wild Swim, in which she toured wild swimming locations with her husband Greg Hemphill. She teased then that she felt emotional being back. Whilst arriving into the village, she told her husband on the docuseries, which aired last year: "This is magical." She added: "I actually feel really emotional." Julie, who later took photos with fans, then said: "I'm pure welling up." ‌ Speaking about the reboot, Julie said: "It's the craziest and best news ever that Balamory is coming back. I seriously think this is bigger than the Oasis reunion. Everyone I know loves the show and has been missing it." When the BBC first announced the revival last year, it said that the new series will be set in the fictional Balamory, with stories "centred around a nursery school and their teacher." It added that it's interested in "some" of the original characters being included alongside "a host of new faces". Kate Morton, Head of Commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education, said at the time: "A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together."
