Home Ministry To Move Out Of Iconic North Block Under Central Vista Revamp
The Ministry of Home Affairs is all set to move out of the historic North Block for the first time. Under the Central Vista redevelopment project, the MHA will shift into a new, state-of-the-art office complex in the next few days.
Sources say Home Secretary Govind Mohan's office had already moved last week. Nearly 25 per cent of the ministry has shifted, with the rest expected to follow soon.
The new complex, just 2 km from North Block, is equipped with modern security, digital infrastructure and green features. It houses all key departments -- internal security, border management, J&K affairs, and disaster management -- under one roof.
Officials believe the move will streamline functioning and improve coordination. The shift marks a major push towards smart governance under the Central Vista overhaul, which also includes the new Parliament and revamped Kartavya Path.

Nine lakh SIMs blocked, Rs 5.5K crore saved in cyber fraud war
NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) said that so far, over 9.42 lakh SIM cards and 2,63,348 IMEIs involved in cyber fraud and digital arrests have been blocked by the government. MoS (Home) Sanjay Bandi , replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, also listed an 11-point strategy to combat cybercrime. "MHA has set up the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) as an attached office to deal with all types of cybercrimes in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. The 'National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal' ( NCRP ) has been launched, as part of I4C, to enable the public to report incidents pertaining to all types of cybercrimes, with special focus on crimes against women and children," the MoS said in his reply. As per CFCFRMS, operated by I4C, over Rs 5,489 crore has been saved in more than 17.82 lakh complaints so far, Bandi stated. The Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) has been established at I4C, where representatives of major banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT intermediaries, and states and UTs work together for immediate action and seamless cooperation to tackle cybercrime. MHA has also provided financial assistance under the Cyber Crime Prevention Against Women and Children (CCPWC) scheme to states and UTs for capacity building. Cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories have trained 24,600 law enforcement personnel, judicial officers and prosecutors, the reply noted. The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) platform, namely CyTrain portal, has trained over 1,05,796 police officers from states and UTs. The module Pratibimb, which maps locations of criminals and crime infrastructure, has led to the arrest of 10,599 accused, 26,096 linkages, and 63,019 cyber investigation assistance requests.

India, Nepal finalise Mutual Legal Assistance pact; discuss revised extradition treaty
India and Nepal are working on a revised extradition treaty and have finalised the text of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement on Wednesday (July 23, 2025). The deliberations took place at the Home Secretary-level talks between the two countries, held on July 22 in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, while the Nepalese side was headed by Gokarna Mani Duwadee, Home Secretary, Government of Nepal. 'During the talks, both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral security cooperation as well as border management and agreed to strengthen it further. Their deliberations included issues related to the repair and maintenance of boundary pillars, trans-border criminal activities, working of Border District Coordination Committees, strengthening of border infrastructure particularly Integrated Check Posts, roads and railway networks, empowerment and capacity building of various security related institutions, and ways to strengthen cooperation in disaster risk reduction and management,' the MHA said. The two sides welcomed the finalisation of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and agreed to work towards the early conclusion of the revised extradition treaty. It was also agreed that the next round of Home Secretary-level talks would be held in Nepal at a mutually convenient date.
