(Video) A First Look At The Driverless Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link Train
The new train was unveiled at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC) near Tuas. Amongst those in attendance at the unveiling were Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Singapore's acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow and Johor's Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. According to a joint statement, the RTS Link will be served by eight trains manufactured by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation Zhuzhou Locomotive Co Ltd.
The trains feature a white livery with red and blue accents inspired by the colour palettes of Malaysia, Johor and Singapore's flags. All eight trains also utilise a fully automatic driverless technology. Each train has four cars and a maximum capacity of 1,000 passengers. Overall, the RTS Link's peak capacity is up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction.
The first train will undergo off-site system integration testing (OSIT) at the SRTC in preparation for full integration and operation. The RTS Link is targeted to begin passenger service by December 2026. The system will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore, with a train journey time of about five minutes between the two stations, allowing for easier and faster commutes.
In related news, Anthony Loke also announced that the KLIA Aerotrain is back in service starting today (1st July 2025, Tuesday). The train shuttles passengers between the Main Terminal and the Satellite Building. However, the Aerotrain service was suspended for 28 months to facilitate upgrade works. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the relaunch at KLIA Terminal 1 later today.

She added that under the leadership of Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the state government was taking steps to strengthen the local ecosystem to support youth involvement in the JS-SEZ. She said state officials remained optimistic that long-term investments in youth development and support systems would gradually bring them back to the state. 'The future of the JS-SEZ depends on local talent. 'If we want sustainable growth, we need our youth to be part of it,' she said. JCI South Key president Tang Mei Ay said programmes such as the upcoming Green-Preneur Festival and Jom ESG Seminar were designed to support the state's 'Maju Johor' agenda. 'We also want the youth to benefit from exposure and opportunities that are available through the JS-SEZ.' Tang added that Johor youth must begin shifting their mindset and step out of their comfort zone to take part in international collaborations.

New KLIA Aerotrain praised for comfort and efficiency by passengers
SEPANG: Travellers using the newly upgraded KLIA Aerotrain at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA1) today commended its enhanced comfort, modern design, and operational efficiency. The service resumed full operations this morning following a RM456 million upgrade, part of the RM742 million KLIA transformation project to elevate the airport's status as a regional aviation hub. Syazwan Misbah, 32, noted the train's improved efficiency, stating, 'This new one is more efficient because it runs non-stop every two minutes and we don't have to wait long.' He added that the convenience of boarding within the satellite building eliminated the hassle of long walks previously required for bus transfers. Nazihah Abdullah, 35, highlighted the spaciousness and clearer information displays. 'The train space is a bit more spacious and has a clear display. The old one didn't have a display like this,' she said, praising the reduced waiting time and a journey duration of under three minutes. Dr Inglish Huang, a Taiwanese traveller and president of the International Korfball Federation (IKF) Asia, shared his delight at experiencing the relaunch. 'Previously, we had to rely on the bus transit and wait longer, but now we are lucky to have this. The air-conditioning is good, and it's very fast and efficient. Honestly, the ride feels almost romantic,' he remarked. The upgraded Aerotrain, featuring the Alstom Innovia APM 300R train set, can carry 270 passengers per three-car unit and travels at 56 km/h, cutting transit time between terminals to under three minutes.
