Old footage of Indonesia fire falsely shared as Barcelona mosque blaze
"The Spanish public set fire to the largest mosque in Spain after getting frustrated by terrorist activities of Islamic infiltrators. Did the people do the right thing?" reads a July 15 Hindi-language Facebook post.
The shared footage shows a domed roof with an Islamic star-and-crescent moon fitting engulfed in flames, with sticker text that reads, "The Spanish have burned the Islamist Piera mosque in Barcelona and is now being investigated by police".
A photo of a room with blue floors and another of a similar burnt down room are overlaid on the clip as it plays.
The clip surfaced across social media in German, Spanish and French after a mosque in Barcelona's Piera municipality was gutted by a fire on July 12, two days before its scheduled inauguration (archived link). No casualties were reported.
According to various news reports, local police stated traces of accelerant were found inside the building and that the fire appears to have been deliberately set (archived links here and here).
Local residents have staged protests in the wake of the fire, with some calling the incident a "hate crime" (archived link).
However, the circulating footage is from Indonesia, not Spain.
A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the clip found it was published on TikTok by Indonesian news outlet Tribun Cirebon on October 19, 2022 (archived link).
The video is captioned: "Dome of Jakarta Islamic Center Grand Mosque engulfed in flames".
AFP reported the blaze led to the collapse of the dome of the mosque in Jakarta, which was undergoing renovations at the time (archived link). No one was injured in the incident.
Footage of the dome's collapse was also published by AFP (archived link).
Google Street View imagery of the Grand Mosque in Jakarta also shows similar structures seen in the circulating video.
Reverse image searches found the two photos overlaid on the circulating clip genuinely show the damaged Barcelona mosque and were published in local media reports about the fire (archived links here and here).

Man arrested after crashing vehicle into RCMP Quebec headquarters
Montreal police are investigating after they say a man deliberately crashed his vehicle into the the Royal Canadian Mounted Police divisional headquarters on Dorchester Boulevard, in Westmount, west of downtown. Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said a 911 call was made reporting a crash at the main entrance of the building around 9:25 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old man, was arrested but taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries suffered in the crash. Brabant said the driver was first seen approaching the building on foot, but eventually got into his vehicle and drove "slowly" but at a constant speed, into the entrance. Police believe the driver may have been suffering from mental health issues and said he was possibly in a state of crisis. While damage to the building was considerable with glass being shattered at the entrance, Brabant said that two RCMP officers who were inside at the time were not injured. Investigators will be questioning the driver as soon as his health allows.

Michigan Walmart stabbing witnesses sought by Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office is seeking to speak with witnesses in the stabbing attack at a Michigan Walmart. The sheriff's office in a Facebook post on Friday said it's hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed any part of the incident, provided first aid or assistance to those who were wounded, or has video footage or relevant information that may help the investigation. "Your observations and actions may be critical in helping detectives piece together the full scope of the incident," the sheriff's office said. Anyone who was at the scene during the incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at 231-995-5012. Five men and six women, including one store employee, were wounded in the July 26 attack at the Traverse City Walmart. All were taken to the hospital. As of Saturday, four of those people are in good condition, two have been treated and transferred, and the other five were treated and released on Friday, Munson Health Care said. The northern Michigan-based organization has been providing care for the victims at its medical center in Traverse City. Bradford James Gille, 42, is accused of carrying out the attack. The Afton, Michigan, man is charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder, court records show. He has pleaded not guilty. The sheriff's office said Gille was taken into custody after multiple citizens, including one who was armed with a pistol, confronted him in the parking lot of the store and prevented him from harming other people. Michigan State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the investigation. Note: The above video first aired on July 30, 2025.
