Chandigarh: Lawyer, 2 friends attacked in brawl over tea order near Sector-17 ISBT
Complainant Thakur Abhay Singh Chima, 24, a practising advocate at the District Courts Complex, Sector 43, told police that he had gone to visit his friends Kartik Chauhan and Ashutosh Sharma in Sector 37-D on Thursday night.
Around 2.30 am, they drove to the Sector-17 ISBT to have tea. They parked their car and approached a tea stall on foot.
Chima said as he placed an order for three cups of tea, five young men already standing near the stall absurdly took offence, believing that he was addressing them for the tea order.
An altercation erupted and despite him clarifying that the order was made to the stall owner and not them, they got aggressive, Chima alleged. 'Enraged, they started hitting us,' the complainant stated.
During the scuffle, one of the attackers allegedly retrieved a metallic 'plate-like' object from a grey Hyundai Santro car parked nearby and used it to assault the victims. The others rained punches and kicks on the three friends.
Chima suffered injuries to the left eye and the back of the head. His friend Kartik sustained serious injuries, including broken front teeth, and wounds on his head and eye. Ashutosh also sustained injuries above the left eye.
Before police could arrive, the assailants fled the scene in the Santro. The victims were transported to GMSH, Sector 16, for medical treatment by a patrolling police team.
On Chima's complaint, an FIR was lodged under Sections 191 (2), 190, 115 (2) and 117 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the assailants at the Sector-17 police station.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits.

The bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan, on July 1, noted that while the First Information Report (FIR) pegged the girl's age at 15, a medical examination suggested she was around 17 — still below the legal marriageable age of 18. The man, too, has not attained the legal marriageable age of 21, being 20 years and 8 months old. Despite this, the court observed that the girl is carrying the applicant's child and both families are now supportive of their union. In this 'peculiar fact situation", the judge said, the interest of the unborn child and the girl must be considered. The applicant was therefore granted interim bail for two months so that he may support and take care of the girl during her pregnancy. The couple's interfaith background added legal complexity. Since the man is Hindu and the girl is Muslim, the court clarified that any lawful marriage between them would have to be conducted under the Special Marriage Act. However, being minors in the eyes of marriage law, they are currently ineligible to marry legally. Both the girl and her mother are to appear in court on September 3, 2025, to inform the judge whether the man is fulfilling his responsibility and whether the girl is satisfied with his conduct. Bengaluru House Fire: Man sets relative's house on fire over financial dispute in Bengaluru; accused on the run
BENGALURU: A 45-year-old man allegedly set fire to the house of his relative over a financial dispute in Vivek Nagar on Tuesday. According to the police, there were no casualties reported in the incident, but the house of the victim was damaged. According to the complaint filed by Sathish Kumar, 41, a resident of 4th Cross in Vivek Nagar, the incident happened around 5.20 pm on July 1. Satish lives in a three-storey building with his mother, Venkataramani, her brother Mohandas, Vijay Kumar, and Ravikumar. He works as a security training and inspection manager at a private firm in Whitefield for the last nine months. Satish said that around eight years ago, his brother's daughter, Parvati, took a loan of Rs 5 lakhs from his mother, Venkataramani, for the marriage of her daughter, Mahalakshmi, aka Ammu. Venkataramani asked Parvati to return the borrowed money. When his mother asked for the money back, Parvati and her daughter Mahalakshmi got angry and abused his mother with abusive words. They allegedly asked, "Your husband died with the money, and did you give me the money to us?" and abused her filthily. They also threatened the family with dire consequences. On the evening of June 30, Mahalakshmi called Satish's number and told him, "Your mother and your brother Ravi are asking us for money repeatedly. Tell them not to ask for money; otherwise, they threatened with dire consequences." Following the threats, Satish and others went to Parvati's house around 7.30 pm and questioned why they were fussing. They asked them to discuss the issue and fix things before returning home. Satish accused Subramani of making efforts to kill his mother and brother. The Vivek Nagar police registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 109 (attempt to murder), 326 (mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance, etc.), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). The accused is at large, and efforts are underway to nab him, a senior officer said.

Man bites cop, family assaults police team during routine vehicle check
HYDERABAD: In a bizarre turn of events, a man named Laxman Singh and his family members, including his brother, mother and sons, were booked for allegedly biting police personnel, assaulting them and snatching a government-issued tablet during a scuffle near Gowlidoddi on Wednesday. According to the complaint, the incident occured when a traffic SI intercepted Laxman during a routine vehicle check. Since he was driving without a valid licence, he was brought to the police outpost. Laxman quietly alerted his family. One of them allegedly used a spare key to take away the vehicle without informing the officers. When confronted, Laxman asked his brother to return the vehicle, but instead of a calm handover, things spiralled. 'Who are you to question me? I didn't take the vehicle,' Laxman's brother reportedly shouted, before grabbing the SI by the collar. As tensions escalated, the SI called for backup. Head Constable Kumar and Woman Constable Ashwini rushed in, but were met with punches, abuse and bites. During the chaos, the family allegedly snatched a government-issued tablet from the police. Laxman's sons also joined in the assault before the entire group fled. The SI suffered injuries to his hand in the melee. Gachibowli police have registered a case under Sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant), 303(2) (theft), 324(4) (mischief), 118(1) (grievous hurt) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
