Stocks to buy for short term: From Paytm to Cipla — experts recommend THESE 5 technical picks for the next 2-3 weeks
The Sensex has crashed 1,836 points, or 2.2 per cent, while the Nifty 50 has fallen 2.1 per cent in the last three sessions. Investors have lost over ₹ 12 lakh crore in this period.
On Monday, July 28, the Sensex closed 572 points, or 0.70 per cent, lower at 80,891.02, while the Nifty 50 settled at 24,680.90, suffering a loss of 156 points, or 0.63 per cent.
Experts believe the market may remain weak in the near term.
"The RSI continues to support the bears with its negative crossover. In the short term, the index may remain under pressure, with a possibility of slipping towards 24,550. On the higher end, resistance is seen at 24,800 and 24,950," said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities.
While the market sentiment appears fragile, experts see stock-specific opportunities across segments.
Mandar Bhojane of Choice Broking and Vishnu Kant Upadhyay of Master Capital Services suggested five stocks to buy for the next two to three weeks. Take a look:
Paytm has recently completed a breakout from a classic cup and handle pattern on the daily timeframe.
Following this technical move, the stock is holding steady above its breakout point and gearing up for another potential rally.
The increased trading volume accompanying this phase points to strong buying interest in the stock.
"If Paytm can secure a close above ₹ 1,100, it may set its sights on reaching the immediate targets of ₹ 1,210 and ₹ 1,240. For prudent risk management, setting a stop-loss at ₹ 1,030 is advised, helping to cushion against any unexpected decline in price," said Bhojane.
Garuda has recently broken out of a rounding bottom pattern, showing consolidation above the breakout level and is now on the verge of a fresh breakout.
This move has been accompanied by a significant increase in trading volume, which signals strong bullish momentum.
"If the price closes above the ₹ 185 level, it could potentially reach short-term targets of ₹ 210 and ₹ 220. To manage risk prudently, it is recommended to set a stop-loss at ₹ 170 to safeguard your investment against a possible market reversal," Bhojane said.
Cipla has recently broken out of a symmetrical triangle pattern on the daily chart, accompanied by a notable increase in trading volume, which suggests strengthening bullish momentum.
"If the price manages to sustain itself above the key resistance level of ₹ 1,580, the stock could aim for short-term targets of ₹ 1,700 and ₹ 1,750," said Bhojane.
"The rising volume adds conviction to this breakout, indicating strong buying interest. However, to prudently manage risk, it is advisable to set a stop-loss at ₹ 1,510 to protect your investment from any unexpected market reversal or downturn," Bhojane said.
Cipla has broken out of a prolonged consolidation phase with a strong bullish candle backed by rising volume, signalling aggressive buying.
The stock is forming a series of higher highs and higher lows, confirming a sustained uptrend.
It is trading above all key moving averages, reinforcing positive momentum. RSI is rising, indicating strength, and MACD has given a fresh bullish crossover.
"The overall structure suggests strong momentum and continued buying interest," said Upadhyay.
Supreme Industries broke out above a key resistance zone, signalling the start of a bullish phase.
Following the breakout, it retested this zone, now acting as support, by forming a textbook double bottom pattern, reinforcing the strength of the level.
The stock has resumed its uptrend, forming higher highs and lower lows. Price remains above all key EMAs, and volume expansion supports the breakout.
RSI is holding above 60, and MACD has given a fresh bullish crossover, indicating sustained upside momentum.
Navin Fluorine has broken out above a long-term resistance near ₹ 4,890-4,950 zone and is currently consolidating in a narrow range, indicating healthy digestion of gains and setting the stage for a potential further rally.
The formation of higher highs and higher lows reflects a sustained uptrend. Price remains above all major EMAs.
Rising volume during up moves, coupled with an RSI above 65 and a bullish MACD crossover, reinforces positive momentum and the structure's underlying strength.

Rajesh Bhosale's 2 top trading ideas: TCS & Ashok Leyland
Rajesh Bhosale, Technical Analyst, Angel One, suggests buying Tata Consultancy Services, despite its underperformance. The stock is at a multi-year support level, indicating a potential bounce. Ashok Leyland is another pick from the auto sector. A bullish reversal pattern suggests positive movement. Targets are set at Rs 3,100 for TCS and Rs 130 for Ashok Leyland. How do you look at the market movement right now? Sectors are trying to catch up and momentum is being built in the market so far. What is the support according to you and where do you see resistance in today's trade? Rajesh Bhosale: Today we definitely saw some respite in the market after the last five weeks of consolidation or selling pressure. In fact, both Nifty and Bank Nifty are trading at a crucial juncture. Multi-month lows are placed somewhere around 24,500 for the Nifty where May and June swing lows were seen. For the Bank Nifty we are seeing support around 55,000 which coincides with daily 89 EMA. Both key indices are at key support and if we see some key derivative data, last week the long-short ratio plunged. Markets are now at key supports and are a bit oversold. At current levels, ahead of policy, we expect some rebound in the market. So, as long as 24,500- 24,600 holds, one can have a stock specific action. On the higher side, 24,850, 24,900 would be the resistance for the Nifty whereas 56,300, 56,500 would be the resistance for the Bank Nifty. I want to understand from you the Bank Nifty play here because you mentioned the resistance level of 56,500. In today's trade, the Bank Nifty particularly was not participating earlier and now it has joined the party. How should one play till policy on Bank Nifty and also do you have any specific stock recommendation? Rajesh Bhosale: As you highlighted, we are not seeing any major traction, but on the hourly charts, we are seeing some positive divergence and double bottom formation and dips towards 55,500 on the spot levels, could be taken as a buying opportunity. On the higher side, 56,000 would be the resistance followed by 56,300. So, Bank Nifty is on a support, some kind of positive divergence is happening and since it is oversold, a dip should be taken as a buying opportunity for a trading bounce towards 56,000 to 56,300 levels. We are eyeing the RBI credit policy this week and the rate sensitive baskets will be on the focus radar. But apart from that, what are the stocks which you have brought for us? What are the trading ideas for the day? Rajesh Bhosale: My first buy call is a contra bet on underperforming stock – TCS. It has been an underperformer. In fact, the entire IT space has been an underperformer. But if we see the chart structure of TCS, it is now placed at a multi-year support level. If we see the RSI smoothened indicator, it has slipped towards the levels of six points. So it is deeply oversold and at a very crucial support. So, the stock is showing good risk-reward at the current juncture. We are expecting a trading bounce or maybe a strong move from current levels. So, with a stop loss of Rs 2,977, TCS can be bought. We are expecting the first target of Rs 3,100 if the momentum continues towards the Rs 3,150-3,180 level. So, TCS looks positive at the current juncture. Since TCS was one underperforming stock, the other stock I would pick from the performing sector, the auto space. The second buy call is on Ashok Leyland. On Friday, we saw a bullish reversal hammer pattern on the daily chart with prices holding on to 89 EMA and today we are seeing a follow-up buying in Ashok Leyland with a stop loss of Rs 119, Ashok Leyland can be bought. We are expecting a near-term target of Rs 130 in this counter.

Trump's comments on India and its economy 'belittling, unacceptable': Anand Sharma
Congress leader and former commerce minister Anand Sharma on Monday asserted that US President Donald Trump's comments on India and its economy are "belittling and unacceptable", as he urged the government not to succumb to the American leader's "bullying tactics" to sign a "suboptimal" trade deal. In a statement, Sharma said India must uphold its sovereignty and supreme national interests and Parliament as well as leaders of all political parties must be taken in confidence on any understanding reached with the US. "President Trump has triggered an upheaval and caused unprecedented disruption in the world order by his utterances and actions. His comments on India and its economy are belittling and unacceptable," the Congress leader said. His remarks come days after Trump announced the imposition of 25 per cent tariff and penalties on India and called India and Russia "dead economies". Echoing Trump's criticism of the Indian economy, Rahul Gandhi had last week said everybody except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman know that the country's economy is "dead". In his statement, Sharma said India has withstood pressures and threats in the past and emerged stronger. "President Trump is mistaken that India does not have options. As the fourth largest economy India has resilience and inherent strength to engage with the world on principles of equality and mutual respect," Sharma said. "Signing of a robust economic and trade agreement with the UK is most welcome. India should prioritise concluding India-EU Trade deal. It is equally important to engage with major trading blocs and regions: Africa Union, ASEAN, GCC and LAC to deepen market access and trade," Sharma said. He said the government must not succumb to Trump's "bullying tactics" to sign a "suboptimal" trade deal. "India must uphold its sovereignty and supreme national interests. Parliament and leaders of all political parties must be taken in confidence on any understanding reached with the US," Sharma said.

First in Ladakh, this AMC opens office in Leh-Ladakh region for wider reach
Nippon India Mutual Fund announced the opening of its new branch in Leh, Ladakh in its apparent attempt to spread mutual fund penetration in the state of J&K. With this launch, Nippon claims to be the only mutual fund house with a physical presence in such a high-altitude region. A company statement said that this is India's 167th branch of Nippon spreading across 266 pin codes. It is worth mentioning here that Jammu & Kashmir has very small concentration of mutual fund investment with average assets under management (AAU) of only ₹ 10,800 crore. Meanwhile, it is 24 percent higher than the corresponding data of June 2024 when it stood at ₹ 8,703 crore. Other states which have even lower AAUM than J&K include Sikkim ( ₹ 2,400 crore), Arunachal ( ₹ 2,200 crore), Mizoram ( ₹ 1,400 crore), Manipur ( ₹ 1,600 crore), Nagaland ( ₹ 3,500 crore), Meghalaya ( ₹ 5,100 crore) and Tripura ( ₹ 3,100 crore). In contrast, Bihar's AAUM is ₹ 75,100 crore and Assam's AAUM is ₹ 40,300 crore. Nippon India's CEO Sundeep Sikka attributed this feat to the efforts made by former Chief of Army Staff and Kargil veteran General VP Malik. 'Leh holds a unique place in India's national consciousness—not just for its altitude and terrain, but for its strategic and cultural significance," said General VP Malik (Retd), also an independent director at Nippon India MF. 'We continue to deepen our reach because we believe every Indian deserves to participate in the country's growth story and journey towards financial inclusion. We're proud to be the only asset management company in the mutual fund industry with a physical presence in Leh, reinforcing our commitment to empowering investors in every corner of the nation,' said Sundeep Sikka. On the day of launch of its branch, Nippon AMC also conducted an Investor Awareness Program (IAP) for 300 Army personnel to promote financial literacy among the armed forces For all personal finance updates, visit here
