Elon Musk Soap Opera Must END, says ...

Time of India09-07-2025
Tesla's market value dropped by over $80 billion on July 7 after CEO
Elon Musk
officially announced a new political party called the 'America Party'. The stock fell nearly 7%, raising new concerns among investors about Musk's continued focus on Tesla. Wedbush Securities analyst
Dan Ives
urged the company's board of directors to 'act and create ground rules for Musk'. In a client note, he wrote 'The
Tesla
Board MUST act and create ground rules for Musk', adding 'The soap opera must end.'
Tesla can't afford a distracted CEO: Dan Ives
According to Ives, 'Tesla is heading into one of the most important stages of its growth cycle… and cannot have Musk spending more and more time creating a political party which will require countless time, energy, and political capital.'
He further warned: 'Going after a handful of seats in the Senate and House heading into the 2026 mid-terms would essentially make Musk a foe of Trump and the Republican party ... which is exactly the opposite of what Tesla shareholders want to see with a very important autonomous regulatory framework now on the horizon during the Trump Administration.'
Tesla Bull lays out three-point plan for Tesla
In the note, Ives proposed a three-point action plan for Tesla board – Link Musk's pay to a clear time commitment at Tesla, form a board committee to monitor his political involvement, and if needed, offer more
Tesla shares
based on his actual involvement in the company.
He wrote: 'The Board cannot control Musk's donations … but they can have oversight if his political ambitions/endeavors interfere with his role as CEO of Tesla,' He wrote. 'The Board now has to take the bull by the horns.'
'Tesla needs Musk as CEO for another five years at least given how important of a role Musk will play in the autonomous and robotics future of Tesla,' Ives added.
Other Tesla investors urge board to act
James Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria and a major Tesla shareholder, pulled plans to launch a Tesla-focused ETF following Musk's announcement. In a letter to Tesla's board, he said Musk's political involvement 'creates a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO of Tesla.'
'Elon is free to burn his own money on the ridiculous stunt that is the
America Party
,' Fishback posted on X. 'He is not free to drag shareholders down with him. Elon is a visionary CEO. He needs to focus on Tesla, not on President Trump.'

Elon Musk's Tesla Optimus humanoid robot serving popcorn goes viral; says, ‘This will become normal in a few years'

Source: X Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again spotlighted the evolving capabilities of the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot. In a video that went viral across social media, the robot is shown calmly serving popcorn to a human guest. This quirky, popcorn-pouring showcase might seem lighthearted, but it marks another serious step toward Musk's larger vision: a future where humanoid robots seamlessly assist in everyday tasks. From folding laundry to walking your dog, Optimus is inching closer to becoming a functional, everyday companion. The video has triggered fresh conversations around the future of robotics and automation . Elon Musk unveils Optimus robot serving popcorn at Tesla Diner The latest clip, posted by Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter), features the Optimus robot gently filling a packet of popcorn and offering it with a polite thumbs-up and a friendly wave. While the robot's movements are deliberate and slightly slower than a human's, it manages the task without a single spill or misstep. According to Musk, this event took place at the soft opening of the Tesla Diner and Supercharger Station at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, Los Angeles. This seemingly simple act is a milestone in the development of general-purpose robotics, highlighting precision, motor control, and user interaction capabilities. 'This will become normal in a few years,' Musk commented in his post, emphasising that serving popcorn is just the beginning. Musk envisions Tesla Optimus as a general-purpose robot that could soon assist with household chores, caregiving, pet walking, and even babysitting. At Tesla's 2024 'We, Robot' event, he boldly predicted that Optimus could eventually 'walk right up to you and serve drinks,' becoming an integral part of everyday life, like smartphones are today. Optimus may become common in homes, says Musk The Tesla Optimus journey began in 2021 when Musk introduced the original Tesla Bot concept. Initially planned for a 2023 release, the robot's development has faced multiple delays. In 2022, Tesla presented a prototype that could walk, retrieve objects, and even water plants. However, safety concerns remained. Musk acknowledged during the bot's debut that they "didn't want it to fall on its face" during a live demo. By July 2024, Musk revealed an updated timeline, projecting commercial sales of Optimus to begin in 2026. Yet, at the 'We, Robot' event later that year, many of the robots on display were revealed to be remotely operated by humans, not fully autonomous, highlighting the ongoing technical hurdles. Popcorn Demo reveals challenges in humanoid robot autonomy Though entertaining, the popcorn video underscores the vast challenges of developing fully autonomous humanoid robots. Today's robots still rely heavily on remote operation or preset routines, especially for interactions requiring nuanced human-like responses. That said, Optimus's ability to track tasks, manipulate objects, and engage with humans in a friendly way suggests that Tesla's team is methodically refining both hardware and software. With every demo—from folding clothes to serving snacks—Tesla inches closer to delivering on Musk's ambitious promise: robots that aren't just useful but feel almost natural in our daily lives. Humanoid robot Optimus future upgrades Looking ahead, Tesla plans to gradually improve autonomous movement, task flexibility, and environmental adaptability in the Optimus line. Future upgrades may allow these bots to function effectively in homes, restaurants, offices, and even hospitals. While Musk's 2026 target for commercial rollout may seem optimistic, continued innovation and public interest suggest that humanoid robots could soon shift from science fiction to everyday reality. How Sam Altman replaced Elon Musk: From calling Donald Trump "unfit to be President and a threat to US national security" to becoming his go-to man for AI

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has emerged as President Trump's primary AI advisor after strategically outmaneuvering rival Elon Musk , marking a dramatic reversal from his previous harsh criticism of the president. Altman, who once compared Trump to Hitler and called him "an unprecedented threat to America," now enjoys regular White House access and influence over crucial AI policy decisions, according to The Wall Street Journal. The transformation culminated in June when Altman dined with Trump at his New Jersey golf club, with the president introducing him as "a very brilliant man" to applauding members. This warm reception contrasts sharply with Altman's earlier exclusion from Mar-a-Lago meetings and relegation to the inauguration overflow room rather than the main stage with fellow tech CEOs. Altman's strategic pivot pays off as Musk relationship deteriorates Altman's rise coincided with Musk's spectacular departure from Trump's inner circle in May, following disagreements over the president's "Big Beautiful Bill" spending legislation. The Tesla CEO's public criticism escalated into what the BBC described as "a vicious public spat" where Trump threatened to "put DOGE on Elon" and suggested the billionaire might need to "head back home to South Africa". Altman capitalized on this opening by quietly building relationships through influential MAGA lobbyist Jeff Miller and Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita, while securing backing from Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, the Journal reported. His $1 million inauguration donation helped secure access, leading to the high-profile announcement of the $500 billion Stargate AI infrastructure partnership. Political transformation from Democrat to Trump ally The OpenAI chief's political evolution has been striking. In 2016, he endorsed Hillary Clinton and wrote that " Donald Trump represents an unprecedented threat to America," comparing Trump's tactics to Hitler's Big Lie strategy, ABC News reported. He donated $200,000 to Joe Biden's 2024 reelection campaign and praised Democratic supporter Reid Hoffman for preventing Trump's 2020 reelection. Altman's shift began during the Biden administration when he grew disillusioned with Democratic economic and AI policies. He warned government contacts that Covid-era stimulus would cause inflation and considered the CHIPS Act's $50 billion semiconductor investment "laughably small," according to the Wall Street Journal. The Biden administration's chip export restrictions also thwarted his plans to build AI infrastructure in the Middle East. By July 2024, Altman posted on X that he was "no longer a Democrat," explaining the party had moved so far left it left him "politically homeless." He later acknowledged that "watching [Trump] more carefully recently has really changed my perspective on him," telling associates he regretted his harsh earlier criticism. Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Michael Bennet recently sent Altman a letter questioning whether his Trump donation was meant to "curry favor and skirt the rules." AI infrastructure agenda drives new alliance Altman's strategy focused on appealing to Trump's builder background and competitive nature, framing OpenAI as the AI leader while advocating for massive government investment in AI infrastructure to compete with China. In June 2024, OpenAI executives met Trump in Las Vegas, demonstrating their then-unreleased Sora video generator and making the case for sweeping aside environmental reviews to accelerate development. The approach resonated immediately. Days later, Trump told podcaster Logan Paul that America needed to "take the lead over China" in AI, noting that "China will produce it because they'll do whatever you have to do, whereas we have environmental impact people." By the Republican National Convention, AI infrastructure became part of Trump's platform. This alignment succeeded where Musk's confrontational style failed, positioning Altman as the administration's key AI partner as Trump prepares to unveil his AI action plan later this month, the Journal reported. 'If My Little Kids Are Away': Elon Musk Returns To 7-Day Workweek, Sleeping In Office

Last Updated: Elon Musk is back to a seven-day workweek, sleeping in the office due to pressures at Tesla, SpaceX, X, and new AI and government projects. He admits it's painful. Billionaire businessman Elon Musk announced he has returned to a grueling schedule of working seven days a week and sleeping in the office. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk on Sunday described himself as being in 'wartime mode," a term he uses to signal periods of intense focus and nonstop effort during critical phases at his companies. Known for his extreme work ethic, the Tesla boss shared an old video reflecting on the toll such a work life has taken on him. Admitting the routine is painful and harmful, Musk said, 'No one should put these many hours into work. This is not good. This is very painful. It hurts my brain and my heart." Notably, this is not the first time Musk has adopted such a demanding work schedule. In several interviews, the billionaire has admitted that he works relentlessly whenever required. In 2018 interview with CBS' 60 Minutes, Musk had revealed he adopted a challenging task of working for 120 hours in a week during Tesla's Model 3 production crisis. During that period also, he slept on the factory floor to lead by example, he said. Musk's current return to this intense lifestyle comes amid mounting pressures at several ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, X, and new projects in AI and government reform. He recently claimed that his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) also followed a 120-hours workweek, far outpacing 'bureaucratic opponents" who work only 40 hours. Musk's relentless work style is not only restricted to him but to his employees as well. After acquiring Twitter in 2022, he demanded staff commit to 'long hours at high intensity" or face consequences. Reports surfaced that Twitter's San Francisco office was converted into makeshift dormitories—dubbed the 'Twitter Hotel"—prompting an investigation by the city's Department of Building Inspection. Responding to the scrutiny, Musk had criticized the city authorities for their actions. 'So the city of SF attacks companies providing beds for tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from fentanyl, he had tweeted in response. Throughout his career, Musk's extreme dedication has been both praised and criticized, reflecting the high stakes and personal sacrifices behind his ambitious ventures. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 14:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
