Guy Ritchie Exits Amazon MGM Studios ‘Road House 2'

Yahoo10-07-2025
We're hearing that Guy Ritchie is no longer directing Amazon MGM Studios' Road House 2, the sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal 2024 movie which pulled in over 50M viewers on Prime Video and was one of the most-watched pics on the service. That number eventually rose to 80M in the pic's first eight weeks on the OTT service.
No reason was given as to why Ritchie un-attached himself. Road House 2 remains an important priority for Amazon MGM Studios and the plan is to keep this production on track to shoot this fall. A search for a new director is underway, and sources say casting continues.

In part 2, Gyllenhaal reprises his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton from a script by Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die). Road House 2 is produced by Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, Gyllenhaal's Nine Stories Productions with Josh McLaughlin and Ivan Atkinson executive producing.
The 2024 Doug Liman directed movie, which made its world premiere at SXSW, was a reboot of the cult 1989 Patrick Swayze directed movie. In part one, Gyllenhaal's Dalton takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems. Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune franchise actor Dave Bautista is circling a role in Road House 2.
Sherlock Homes and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells filmmaker Ritchie hit a high point at the global box office in 2019 with the live-action take of Disney animated classic Aladdin, starring Will Smith, which minted $1.05 billion.

Bella Brown, Zegler's understudy, took over during the musical's second act and performed the production's signature song, 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina.' The London audience was so pleased with Brown's performance that they gave the young starlet an almost five-minute standing ovation. 10 tktk Instagram/@rachelzegler 'Today really showed just how important swings and covers are within this industry,' the actress wrote on her Instagram Stories after Thursday night's show. ''Evita' has been such an important musical to me since I was a little girl, when my dad and I would sing 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' together on my back patio,' she told Deadline in March. BACKGRID 'The stage has always felt like home to me, and I can't wait to make my West End debut in such great company,' she said. Still, the 'West Side Story' star's 'Evita' performance has not been without criticism. During the iconic tune 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina,' Zegler leaves the London Palladium stage and performs the song from an outdoor balcony while those in the audience stay inside and watch from a screen. 'I'm excited to see her, but not sure how I feel about paying that much to watch the most iconic moment on a screen,' one person complained. 10 Rachel Zegler performing 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' from a balcony outside the London Palladium. However, others praised the 'incredible' and 'emotional' balcony scene. 'Absolutely stunning idea and a beautiful symbol – while the rich sit inside the theatre watching from the screen, Evita is outside on the balcony of the theatre addressing all those who can't afford to go to the theatre and/or are living on the streets of London,' one attendee gushed on X. 10 Rachel Zegler and backup dancer Nathan Louis-Fernand at a Sabrina Carpenter concert together on July 6. Zegler previously faced backlash while promoting Disney's live-action 'Snow White,' which flopped at the box office earlier this year. After slamming those who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election, she allegedly butted heads with co-star Gal Gadot over their differences regarding the Israel-Palestinian war in Gaza.

We Were Liars Season 2: Renewal status, potential release date and everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 26, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated July 26, 2025, 20:24 IST If you've just finished watching We Were Liars on Prime Video and are still staring at your screen in shock after that season 1 finale—same. It was emotional, twisted, and totally unexpected. And now, like the rest of us, you're probably wondering: Are we going back to Beechwood Island for another round of Sinclair family secrets? Let's talk about what's going on with season 2—because while there's no official answer yet, there's definitely some hopeful noise. Has We Were Liars Been Renewed for Season 2? As of now (end of July 2025), Prime Video hasn't made an official announcement about renewing We Were Liars for another season. The show only dropped on June 18, so it's still pretty fresh, and streaming platforms usually take a few weeks (sometimes longer) to see how a show is performing before giving it the green light. But here's the good news: it's doing really well. Like, number-one-in-over-20-countries well. And that kind of buzz doesn't go unnoticed. Even though there's no renewal yet, E. Lockhart—the author of the book the series is based on—recently said, 'I don't have any news to share about season two yet. [But] it's not a limited series!' That alone gives us hope. Add in the fact that the showrunners (Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie) have also shown interest in continuing the story, and yeah—it feels like something is definitely brewing. We Were Liars Season 2 Expected Cast The cast depends on where the story goes: Prequel Route ( Family of Liars ) : We'd likely see a younger cast playing teenage Penny, Carrie, and Bess in the 1987 setting. Mamie Gummer and Joseph Zada would probably return, since Carrie's talks with Johnny's ghost are central to the prequel. Cadence, Mirren, and Gat (Emily Alyn Lind, Esther McGregor, and Shubham Maheshwari) might sit this one out, as they don't appear in the book. : We'd likely see a younger cast playing teenage Penny, Carrie, and Bess in the 1987 setting. Cadence, Mirren, and Gat (Emily Alyn Lind, Esther McGregor, and Shubham Maheshwari) might sit this one out, as they don't appear in the book. Present-Day Story: Emily Alyn Lind would be back as Cadence, dealing with her post-island life. Mamie Gummer and Joseph Zada could return for more Carrie-and-Johnny ghost scenes. Caitlin FitzGerald (Penny), Candice King (Bess), and David Morse (Harris) might also pop up, but Mirren and Gat's ghosts might not if Cadence's story moves off the island. One catch: Joseph Zada's role in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping might mess with his schedule, but his ghost character makes him a strong candidate to return either way. We Were Liars Season 2 Potential Release Date If Prime Video gives the go-ahead soon, the earliest we might see season 2 is sometime in 2026. The timeline kind of tracks—season 1 was ordered in 2023, filmed in mid-2024, and released in June 2025. So a similar schedule could be possible for a follow-up. But here's where it gets a little tricky: season 2 might not be a direct continuation. There's a chance they go the prequel route, which would mean a different cast and storyline (and probably more time to film). On the flip side, if they choose to pick up from the present-day story—or align with Lockhart's upcoming companion novel, We Fell Apart (releasing in November 2025)—we might be looking at a 2026 release, especially if production kicks off soon after the book drops. Hamish Linklater gets to chew a little scenery, as a treat, in Gen V season 2 trailer

Prime Video rolled out the trailer for the second season of its The Boys spin-off Gen V at Comic-Con tonight, including quite a few chances for new cast member Hamish Linklater—possibly best known for Midnight Mass, but who, given the superheroic context, will always be Clark Debussy from Legion to us—getting to deliver dry but enthusiastic monologues as the new dean of Godolkin University. The biggest question hanging over the season, meanwhile, gets addressed pretty quickly—at least, once the show establishes why Jaz Sinclair's Marie Moreau is coming back to this awful place: The trailer seemingly confirms that the magnetically powered Andre (played by the late Chance Perdomo) has died along with his actor between seasons. (With Sean Patrick Thomas, who played the character's father in season one, having a more prominent presence in the footage scene here, and a photo of Andre/Perdomo showing up in the trailer.) In interviews surrounding the panel, the show's cast and crew noted the importance of paying proper tribute to Perdomo, with showrunner Michele Fazekas stating that 'The thing I'm most proud of, when you watch the entirety of the season, is he is there the whole way, in a way that feels real—because it is real. I'm very proud that we honored him beginning to end.' Elsewhere, the promo shows off those things you'd naturally expect to see in the Boys universe: Lots of violence, temptations to power, and some light quipping about destiny and chosen ones. The panel also took time to shore up links between Gen V and The Boys—highlighted when some of the characters from the spin-off showed up, in particularly unpleasant ways, at the climax of The Boys' last season, and then some Boys characters returned the favor in the trailer—in the most overt way possible: Showing off the first teaser for the mothership show's fifth season, showing Antony Starr's Homelander in full dictator mode, promising to transform America into 'a safer, more god-fearing nation.' (And for those who like more Easter eggs, fewer depressing political allegories: Series creator Eric Kripke reportedly also worked in a Supernatural bit, showing off characters played by his old stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.) Gen V returns for its second season on September 17. More from A.V. Club 3 new songs and 3 new albums to check out this weekend E!
