ABU DHABI (WAM)The ninth edition of Abu Dhabi Extreme (ADXC), a premier global event for jiu-jitsu and grappling, kicks off this week in the French capital Paris with the participation of top-tier athletes from France and worldwide.The event features a series of activities leading up to the main fights. It begins with a press conference on April 17 to unveil key event details and present the top contenders, followed by official weigh-ins on April 18.The main fights are scheduled for April 19 at the iconic Dojo de Paris venue. A final press conference will follow the matches to present the results and reactions.This championship holds a special place on France's martial arts calendar, offering combat sports fans the opportunity to witness high-level professional bouts held under the Abu Dhabi banner, further reinforcing the emirate's leadership in the global development of these disciplines.The Paris edition continues the success of previous tournaments, particularly last year's highly attended event which received extensive media coverage, positioning France as a key destination for this international competition.Rodrigo Valerio, Chief Operating Officer at International Vision Sports Management, confirmed that preparations have reached their final stage, with lighting systems, live broadcast technology, and electronic refereeing fully set up to ensure a top-tier experience for both athletes and spectators.He emphasised that the organising committee is committed to delivering an exceptional edition that reflects the evolution of the championship and Abu Dhabi's growing stature in the global martial arts arena.All eyes will be on the main bout between French Olympic judo champion Gillion Chane and Bellator veteran DeBlauw Tjouti, in one of the most anticipated matchups of the event.The fight card also includes several renowned names from the combat sports scene, including:• Reda Mebtouche, 2022 European Jiu-Jitsu bronze medalist, who will face Italy's Amin Aoun• Nicolas Renier, a three-time ADCC Europe champion, set to clash with Brazilian standout Peter Frank• Frederic 'Lili' Tala, 2024 blue belt world champion, taking on veteran Asare• Anthony de Oliveira, European champion and 2024 World bronze medalist in wrestling, set to face Brazilian Gabriel Souza• Stephanie Caroline Faure, 2024 World bronze medalist, who will meet Tamara Torres• Aurélie Le Vern, one of France's most decorated female fighters across multiple belt divisions, will battle Finland's Simola

21 July 2025 14:13 ABU DHABI (WAM) The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaboration with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, hosted HYROX, the world's largest indoor fitness race and the leading fitness event in the Middle event, held on Sunday, brought together 3,506 athletes from across the globe, including 213 professional represented 41 percent of the participants, with the 30-35 age group being the most from 124 nationalities took part, including 340 Emiratis. The United Kingdom led the participant demographics with 24 percent, followed by the UAE with 9 percent, and both Ireland and the Philippines with 5.25 percent race consisted of eight 1km running rounds, interspersed with eight functional fitness workouts, forming a complete challenge that tested both strength and was open across several categories: Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, Relay Teams (4 persons), and a dedicated category for People of event kicked off with the men's category at 7:00 am, followed by the remaining categories throughout the day, concluding with the men's relay at 9:00 ceremonies began at 12:45 pm after the first race and continued until 10:45 pm after the final event. The race witnessed an impressive public turnout of over 12,000 spectators throughout the Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashemi, stated, "Hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi underscores our ongoing commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle by attracting world-class events that blend challenge and excitement while being inclusive of all community segments. 20 July 2025 20:19 AL AIN (WAM)The sixth edition of the IMMAF Youth World Championships is set to begin on Monday at Al Ain for the very first under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the event will run from July 21-27 at ADNEC Centre Al than 1,000 male and female athletes from over 60 countries will compete in what is shaping up to be the biggest edition in the championships' history. Participants will compete across four age divisions: Youth D (10–11 years), Youth C (12–13 years), Youth B (14–15 years), and Youth A (16–17 years).The UAE National Team enters the competition with 57 athletes, following a training camp in Phuket, Thailand as part of their final preparations. The team is aiming for a strong showing and hopes to build on last year's success, where they finished fourth overall and secured 12 Al Hosani, a member of the MMA Committee, UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mix Martial Arts Federation, said that hosting the championship in Al Ain for the first time with a record number of participants reflects the UAE's growing stature on the global combat sports map. He described the event as a sporting and cultural platform that promotes cross-cultural understanding and empowers youth.'The championship serves as a launchpad for future champions and a bridge to connect nations through sports. A series of tailored experiences have also been designed for the athletes and delegations, offering them a well-rounded Emirati experience that blends hospitality, entertainment, and cultural exchange. 'The UAE National Team is approaching the championship with high spirits and a strong sense of determination. We have all the confidence in athletes' capabilities to deliver a powerful performance that highlights the progress of MMA in the country,' Al Hosani added.
