YSRCP launches ‘yuvatha poru'

Visakhapatnam: Flagging failures of the coalition government, YSRCP launches 'yuvatha poru' protests and submits representations at all Collectorates on June 23, informed former IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Gudivada Amarnath said the coalition government is resorting to diversion politics as it failed to implement poll promises, especially creation of jobs and provision of Rs 3,000 allowance to the unemployed youth after it came to power.
The youth wing of the party will hold protests at all District Collector offices, Amarnath mentioned. 'People are not prepared to trust Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as he is resorting to diversion politics to avoid fulfilling promises made like his earlier tenures,' Amarnath criticised, adding the Thalliki Vandanam scheme has been diluted.
Talking about International Yoga Day celebrations, Amarnath pointed out that the government spent Rs.300 crore on IYD for publicity, causing great inconvenience to students, women and public. 'Tribal students were mobilised to the venue the previous day without proper care and they faced serious hardship,' Amarnath lamented.
The event was conducted with an aim of entering the Guinness Book of Records, while Naidu already holds a record for cheating people across four terms as Chief Minister, Amarnath alleged.
While Naidu mobilises funds for Amaravati, Amarnath said, North Andhra remains completely neglected but used for the CM's publicity stunts. 'It was only during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure North Andhra witnessed real development,' he reiterated, appealing to people to make the 'yuvatha poru' a success.

Government Extends Top Tax Authority CBDT Chairman's Tenure By A Year

New Delhi: The government has extended the tenure of Ravi Agrawal as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) by another year. The CBDT is the apex policymaking body of the Income Tax Department, and its chairman and members are senior Indian Revenue Service officers. "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved re-appointment of Ravi Agrawal, IRS as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes on contract basis, for a period of one year with effect from July 1, 2025 till June 30, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the government order stated. The re-appointment will be on the usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central government officers, in relaxation of the Recruitment Rules. Agarwal, a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the income tax cadre, had succeeded Nitin Gupta, 1986 batch IRS officer, in June 2024 as Chairman of the CBDT. He was serving as a member of the CBDT (Administration) from July 2023 before his appointment as chairman. The CBDT is headed by a chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary. Meanwhile, CBDT has asked all the principal chief commissioners of Income Tax to exercise effective supervision over their assessing officers and make sure that questions sent by them to a taxpayer are justified, and that irrelevant queries are completely avoided. The apex body has directed Income Tax Department officials to ensure due application of mind while issuing notices for scrutiny and assessment of a taxpayer's return, emphasising that all queries should be relevant and specific. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier this week asked income-tax officials to ensure that tax compliance processes are made simpler, more transparent and taxpayer-friendly. The Finance Minister also directed all principal chief commissioners of income tax to prioritise and accelerate the disposal of disputed tax demands that are currently pending before the faceless appellate authorities, the finance ministry said in a statement. About 577,000 appeals were pending at the start of the current fiscal year. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is targeting to address more than 225,000 appeals in FY 2025-26 involving over Rs 10 lakh crore of disputed demand. The Finance Minister highlighted that prompt and time-bound disposal of taxpayer grievances is essential for ensuring responsive governance.

EPS condemns delay in IBT functioning, AIADMK plans protest on July 3

Trichy: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday condemned the delay in commissioning the Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur and the slow progress of various civic works in Trichy. He announced that the party will stage a protest in the city on July 3. Palaniswami criticised the DMK government for failing to make the IBT operational, despite chief minister M K Stalin inaugurating the Rs 492-crore facility on May 9. He alleged that the inauguration was done in haste and without ensuring readiness, leading to public dissatisfaction. He also pointed to delays in other key infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of Maris Flyover and roadwork near Palakkarai, which he said were disrupting traffic and inconveniencing residents. The protest will be held at MGR Thidal near Marakkadai in Trichy. AIADMK leaders C Vijayabaskar, Pudukkottai district secretary, and J Srinivasan, Trichy urban secretary, will lead the demonstration.

EOW intensifies probe into ‘Salar Jung family's Rs 150-crore land gift to Sena MP's driver'

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar city police has intensified its probe into a complaint by a lawyer in Parbhani alleging that the driver of a Shiv Sena MP was illegally gifted a three-acre land worth nearly Rs 150 crore, a prime property in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, by Hyderabad's Salar Jung family. The complaint was filed by lawyer Mujahid Khan, who alleged fraud in the gift deed effecting transfer of the three acres from the Salar Jung family to Javed Shaikh, driver of Shiv Sena MP Sandipan Bhumre, whose son Vikas Bhumre is an MLA. Speaking to The Indian Express, the investigation officer of the case and EOW inspector Sambhaji Pawar said the EOW received the complaint around two months back and since then an inquiry has been going on into the matter, and that recently the inquiry has been expedited. As per the complaint filed with the EOW, the three-acre land in question is in the Dawoodpura area on Jalna Road in Aurangabad and is part of a 12-acre land belonging to the Salar Jung family. Shaikh has claimed he knows the Salar Jung family well. The lawyer, however, has questioned as to why would the Salar Jung family give such a high-value land to a driver. Khan also claimed that for the same land, the Salar Jung family fought a long legal battle with the revenue department and claimed it in 2023. 'We are checking the legality of the land transfer gift deed. We have already recorded some statements and have summoned other people concerned, including the kin of the Salar family,' Pawar said. 'We have summoned Shaikh in the past. He told us he would come with some documents but did not turn up again. We again served him summons recently. Similarly, kin of the Salar Jung family have also been asked to remain present for the inquiry with relevant documents,' Pawar added. The police have so far not registered any FIR in the case and are checking if a cognisable offence was committed. When asked if the police have recorded the statements of Vikas Bhumre and his father Sandipan Bhumre, the investigation officer said the inquiry is at a preliminary stage and for now they have not been found connected to the alleged irregularities; hence, they have not been summoned yet. Vikas Bhumre reportedly denied any link of his family with their driver Shaikh's land gift deed.
