Sabah assistant minister summoned by MACC as RM200,000 mining probe closes in on charges
According to news portal Info X, Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Assistant Minister Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy arrived at the MACC Sabah office at around 9am today, accompanied by two lawyers, to give his statement.
In December last year, a video of Andi was published by Malaysiakini showing him in discussion with a businessman over the procurement of a mining licence.
Andi, who is from Barisan Nasional, is the Kalabakan MP and Tanjung Batu state assemblyman.
Last week, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that three individuals, including two state assemblymen, are expected to be charged later this month as officers begin the process of arrest.
Aside from Andi, two other men have been named in media reports as those who may be charged.
Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob — who heads the state's investment arm Qhazanah Sabah Berhad — was questioned by MACC Sabah for nearly four hours last Wednesday.
The third individual expected to face charges is businessman Albert Teh, who had brought forward the series of videos that sparked the prospecting licence scandal.
The alleged corrupt activities are believed to have taken place between 2023 and 2024, involving bribes totalling around RM200,000 in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications.

Perikatan confirms Solaris Dutamas HQ shut after lease ended, denies claims of unpaid rent
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Perikatan Nasional's (PN) headquarters in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur has been closed following the expiry of its two-year lease in April, the coalition's secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has confirmed. Azmin said the decision not to renew the lease was reached through mutual agreement between the landlord and tenant, and was approved by PN's top leadership. 'This matter was informed to and agreed upon by the PN top leadership,' he was quoted saying by Sinar Harian. 'Nonetheless, the administration and operations of the PN headquarters continue as usual, handled by officers and staff at an unofficial location, while a new premises is being prepared.' He also criticised media reports claiming the closure was due to unpaid rent dating back to March, calling them unfounded and irresponsible. Meanwhile, Selangor PN secretary Dr Afif Bahardin said the coalition remains operational despite being without a physical office for now. 'We didn't shut down [operations], but the [rental] contract has ended. We are in the middle of finding a new location to turn into an office,' he told Malaysiakini. He said meetings are ongoing and there is no issue of the party ceasing operations. The Solaris Dutamas office had served as the venue for PN Supreme Council meetings since the coalition was formed in 2020. PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was previously quoted saying he was unaware of the specific circumstances of the closure, stating that such matters were under Azmin's purview.

Spain ruling party bars members from hiring sex workers
Hit by a corruption scandal involving alleged kickbacks and sex workers, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's party shook up its top leadership Saturday and banned members from paying for sex. Sanchez, 53, is facing the biggest crisis of his seven years in power. That was heightened on Monday by the detention of a former top official in his Socialist party, Santos Cerdan, in an investigation involving allegations of corruption and hiring sex workers. In a bid to right the ship, the Socialist party announced that "soliciting, accepting or obtaining sexual acts in exchange for money" was now banned for party members, punishable by "the maximum sanction, expulsion from the party". "If we believe a woman's body is not for sale, our party cannot allow behaviour contrary to that," Sanchez said. "These are difficult times for everyone, without a doubt," he told party leaders at a meeting in Madrid, once again apologising for trusting those caught up in the growing scandal. But he also reiterated his refusal to step down. "The captain doesn't look the other way when seas get rough. He stays to steer the ship through the storm," he said. The party also announced a leadership shake-up, replacing Cerdan as its number three official with 44-year-old lawyer Rebeca Torro. The meeting started behind schedule after another close Sanchez ally, Francisco Salazar, who had been due to take a top leadership post, resigned. Online news site said Salazar had been accused of "inappropriate behaviour" by several women who had formerly reported to him in the party. Former transport minister Jose Luis Abalos has also been implicated in the investigation into kickbacks for public contracts. The conservative opposition People's Party (PP) held a meeting of its own, looking to capitalise on the Socialists' stumbles. "We're the only alternative to this state of decline," said PP leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo, calling his party the answer to Spain's divisions and "political fatigue".
