Club expect to receive official Man Utd transfer bid for goalkeeper 'soon'

Metroa day ago
Manchester United have firmed up their interest in Senne Lammens and Royal Antwerp are expecting a bid for the goalkeeper in due course, according to reports in Belgium.
Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon remain United's only additions of the summer transfer window on the back of the club's wretched 2024/25 campaign under Ruben Amorim.
But the Red Devils are understood to made a significant breakthrough in their attempts to sign Bryan Mbeumo and forward's move from Brentford is set to be officially confirmed over the coming days.
Determined to further strengthen Amorim's squad from back to front, United's hierarchy will quickly focus their attentions on finding an upgrade for Andre Onana once Mbeumo arrives through the doors at the Theatre of Dreams.
Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, Porto's Diogo Costa and Lille's Lucas Chevalier are all understood to be on United's radar as Old Trafford bosses look to address the side's miserable defensive record in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Belgian publication HLN report that Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Lammens, 23, finds himself at the top of United's shortlist of potential solutions between the sticks, with the club's interest 'becoming more concrete'.
The report adds that Antwerp believe there is a 'good chance' that United will make an official offer for Lammens 'soon'.
It's claimed the Belgian Pro League outfit are hoping to receive a bid in the region of €15-20million (£13-17.3m) for the former Belgium Under-21 international.
While Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are also monitoring Lammens' situation, the 'keeper is said to be holding out for a move to one of Europe's top five leagues.
Lammens' current contract in Antwerp runs through to June 2027.
United have been keeping close tabs on Lammens' progress in Belgian football for the past six months and, in February, the young goalkeeper told Gazet van Antwerpen he was flattered to learn of the club's interest.
In the same interview, the ex-Club Brugge man also argued that his game was perfectly suited to the Premier League, which he branded 'the best competition in the world'.
'The first time I heard it, I thought, 'Wow! Immediately a world team is following you', and that is special,' Lammens said.
'Of course, I was also asked about it a lot, and when I made a save in training
'Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players so it doesn't have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.
'Especially because it is just about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football.
'You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me.
'You do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it's not like I'm watching full matches. Summaries are enough.'

New Man Utd signing Bryan Mbeumo idolised Cristiano Ronaldo before ex-Chelsea icon

Bryan Mbeumo has completed his £71million switch from Brentford to Manchester United and is keen to make a similar impact at Old Trafford as his hero growing up Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United's new signing Bryan Mbeumo already has his sights set on emulating his boyhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo. ‌ Mbeumo, who has joined United from Brentford in a deal worth up to £71million, revealed the first football shirt he owned growing up was Ronaldo's iconic No.7. The Cameroon star, who plays out wide like Ronaldo but can also operate centrally, was just four when his idol joined United for the first of two spells in 2003. ‌ In that six-year spell, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances, before returning for an ill-fated second stint at United, which ended in acrimony after a season-and-a-half. Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season, modelled himself on Ronaldo and said he dreams of matching the exploits of his hero now he is a United player himself. ‌ 'My first top was one with Ronaldo behind [on the back],' said Mbeumo, when asked to name his favourite player. 'It changed the time. When I was really young, the two best footballers were Ronaldo and Messi. When I was growing up, Neymar. After that, it was Eden Hazard. 'My dream was to become a football player and play for one of the biggest teams in the world. But when you're actually doing it, it's completely different.' On the pitch, Mbeumo is an uncompromising, fearless and physical attacker, who shows no mercy to opponents in his relentless quest for goals and assists. Off it, however, he is a completely different character, with the piano and chess his chief hobbies away from the pressure of playing football at the highest level. Asked if he was quiet or loud, Mbeumo said: 'A little mix of the two. I'm quite quiet when I don't know people. But when I know everyone I make jokes and have banter. I like piano and chess. I'm just a normal guy. I discovered the piano a few years ago, when a friend was playing and I wanted to try. 'With chess, I played a little bit when I was younger. Two or three years ago, I started playing and I enjoyed it, so I play online. I have a board at home but I have no-one to play with.' ‌ Part of the initiation ritual for new signings at United is to perform a song in front of the squad, with Mbeumo hinting he could go one stage further. 'Maybe I can play the piano and sing!' he said. 'I know I'm a calmed and chilled guy out of the pitch, but on it I change completely. I'm really determined and focused. 'It comes from my parents. They gave me my values. Also, all the coaches I've worked with gave me a lot of advice. It's like a family and all the things you face in your personal life helps build your mentality and character. 'I grew up in a small town, where everyone knew each other and I have a lot of memories from the stadium of my first team. I try to go back there at least once a year to see my old manager and the little kids, who have a dream as well, like I had. It's really good for them to see someone who is here now. They can see that they can do it and that's important for me.' Piano-loving Mbeumo will hope to hit the right notes for United and help spark their revival after they ended last season in 15th place, their worst finish of the Premier League era.

All is fine now – Harry Maguire joining Man Utd tour after personal matter

Manchester United flew out for their pre-season tour of the United States without Harry Maguire but the defender has revealed he will join the squad on Wednesday after staying to deal with a personal matter. The 32-year-old was a half-time introduction in Saturday's 0-0 friendly draw with Leeds but was replaced in the 74th minute, then conspicuous by his absence from Tuesday's 32-man tour squad. The PA news agency understands Maguire remained at home due to a personal matter and the player has now confirmed he will only be a day late joining up with Ruben Amorim's men Stateside. 'All is fine now,' Maguire posted on an Instagram story. 'I will be travelling tomorrow to meet up with the squad. Thanks for your concern.' Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have unsurprisingly joined Barcelona-bound Marcus Rashford in being omitted from the travelling party heading for Chicago. The five are searching for new clubs and have been training away from Ruben Amorim's first-team squad since indicating that they wish to explore a future away from Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo is part of the group after completing his move from Brentford on Monday for a fee rising to a potential £71million. Fellow summer arrivals Matheus Cunha, whose partner recently gave birth, and Diego Leon are also on the plane. 🤙 #MUTOUR25 🔜 — Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 22, 2025 Lisandro Martinez is included as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in February. PA understands the United defender is not yet ready for team training. Amorim's side are flying from Manchester to their base in Chicago, where they will play Bournemouth at Soldier Field on July 30 as part of the Premier League Summer Series. They start the pre-season tournament at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey – host of next year's World Cup final – against West Ham on Saturday evening local time. United finish their three-game trip against Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta on August 3.

India star fires fierce accusation at England players to "clear the air once and for all"

India captain Shubman Gill clashed with England batters Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett during the third Rothesay Test at Lord's and has now given his side of the story Shubman Gill has accused England openers of breaching the spirit of cricket by dragging their feet. ‌ The Indian captain claimed Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were 90 seconds late to the crease at the start of their second innings at Lord's - which lit the blue touchpaper for a feisty conclusion to England's tense 22-run win. ‌ When Crawley backed away, and then called for treatment after being struck on the bottom hand by a lifting delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, finger-wagging Gill saw led a posse of Indian players remonstrating with him for blatant timewasting to run down the clock. ‌ Ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Gill explained: 'A lot of people have been asking me about it, so let me clear the air once and for all. The English batsmen on that day had seven minutes' play left, but they were 90 seconds late coming to the crease - not 10, not 20, but 90 seconds late. 'Yes, most teams use this (ploy), but there's a manner to do it. If you get hit on the body, the physios are allowed to come on and that is fair. But to be able to come 90 seconds late to the crease is not something that comes in the spirit of the game. 'Leading up to that event, a lot of things happened that we thought should not have happened. It's not something I'm very proud of but there was a build-up - it didn't just come out of nowhere. 'We had no intention of doing that whatsoever but you're playing to win and there are a lot of emotions. Sometimes when you see things happening that should not happen, emotions come out of nowhere.' England were unimpressed by India's hostility towards Crawley and Duckett - and white-ball captain Harry Brook admitted they resolved to 'get stuck in' and reciprocate the aggression. India tuned up for their date at Old Trafford by paying a visit to Manchester United's Carrington training ground. It is not known whether United boss Ruben Amorim recommended batting or bowling first if Gill wins the toss for the first time in the series.
