Man held for misuse of councillor's stamp to change Aadhaar records
Vadodara: A man was arrested by the Vadodara city police on Sunday for allegedly misusing the stamp of a municipal councillor to fraudulently change addresses in Aadhaar records. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The accused, Paresh Kelwani, runs a web solutions shop in the Warasia area. Police are investigating whether Kelwani has committed similar offences in the past and how many records were altered using the the councillor's stamp. According to police, BJP councillor Hemisha Thakkar was recently informed by BJP worker Hardik Prajapati that her official stamp was being used on documents to facilitate Aadhaar address changes. Prajapati learned of the misuse when he visited Kelwani's shop to update his address in Aadhaar records. When he told Kelwani that he lacked valid address proof, Kelwani allegedly offered to make the change using the councillor's stamp in exchange for Rs 950. Prajapati immediately informed Thakkar, who discovered that the addresses of at least three individuals had been changed in Aadhaar records using her stamp. She also stated that the stamp bore her former designation as chairperson of the recreational and cultural committee — a position she held around one and a half years ago. Thakkar said that even her forged signature had been used for the fraudulent address changes. She reported the matter to her party leadership and subsequently lodged a complaint at the city police station. Police have seized Kelwani's computer for further investigation. In recent months, Vadodara has seen a spike in cases involving forged documents — including fake birth certificates — being used to obtain Aadhaar cards. Many such rackets were uncovered by officials of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) during verification of Aadhaar applicants.

Will first hear on maintainability issue on August 6 on pleas seeking review of PMLA verdict: SC
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would first hear arguments on August 6 on the issue of maintainability of the petitions seeking a review of its July 2022 verdict that upheld the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) powers to arrest, attach properties allegedly involved in money laundering, and carry out search and seizure under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). A three-judge bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh noted that the ED has proposed three preliminary issues that primarily deal with the question of the review petitions' maintainability. The bench said the review petitioners have proposed 13 questions for its consideration. It noted the submissions of the questions raised by both parties and fixed the matter for further hearing on August 6. 'Since the proposed issues are arising in the review proceedings, we propose to first hear the parties on the issue of maintainability of the review petitions, followed by a hearing on the questions proposed to be raised on behalf of the review petitioners. Eventually, the questions that would finally arise for consideration will also be determined by us if we hold that the review petitions are maintainable,' the bench observed. The Supreme Court had on 4 May 2025 reconstituted a new bench to hear a batch of review petitions filed against the Vijay Madanlal Choudhary (VMC) judgment, which upheld certain provisions of the PMLA. The VMC judgment was delivered on 27 July 2022 by a three-judge bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, and Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and C T Ravikumar (all now retired). It upheld certain provisions of the PMLA. 'Sections 5, 8 (4), 15, 17 and 19 of PMLA, relating to the Directorate's power of attachment, search and seizure, and arrest is upheld,' the top court had said.

Canadian professional wrestler Chelsea Green, who is a former WWE Women's United States Champion and an ex-WWE Women's Tag Team Champion, has taken a break from social media after severe social media backlash for her remarks about WWE legend Hulk Hogan after his death. After the death of Hulk Hogan, Green appeared on CBS News' 24/7 show called him an "absolute icon" despite having "polarising political views." This comment drew severe backlash. In such a backdrop, Green's comments enraged Hulk Hogan's fans. "A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging w the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms," Green wrote on X. "Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live tv. Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period. "If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn." Ultimately, Green stepped away from social media. "I've tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed… and it hit harder than I expected. The name calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts," she added.
