Psychological thriller starring Line of Duty legend will be your next obsession
Insomnia, based on the book of the same name written by Sarah Pinborough, was released in 2024 on the Paramount Plus streaming service.
The six-part psychological drama has been chosen by Channel 5 to be broadcast on mainstream TV for the very first time – a year on from its original release.
In the series, This Is England star Vicky, 42, portrays Emma Averill, a mother and full-time lawyer whose 40th birthday is just around the corner.
With everything in her life going as planned, Emma unexpectedly begins experiencing spells of sleeplessness that affect her mental health and psychological well-being.
With Emma entering middle age, she has to look deep into her past and analyse her mother's health history to solve the mystery of her insomnia.
The series was originally dropped on Paramount Plus in May 2024, and Channel 5 began to broadcast it on Sunday night, with episode one going out at 9pm.
Episodes 2 and 3 will go out on Monday, July 7, and Tuesday, July 8, at 9pm, with the last three episodes of Insomnia all going out on Channel 5 next week.
A series synopsis teased by Channel 5 reads: 'When a career woman's dream life turns into a nightmare, she fears she might be losing her mind. Is she going insane like her mother did?'

Speaking about her role to Stylist, Vicky previously said: 'Whether you're doing a comedy or a horror, you have to play the truth… It made me think about my own sleep patterns and how stressful broken sleep can be on your mind.
'It's frightening to think that having a couple of nights of sleeplessness can mess up your thought process and cause you to behave in a way you wouldn't normally.'
On X, user @TabithaPotts said around the time of Insomnia's original release 'I'm really enjoying Insomnia over on Paramount – creepy and compelling.'
She continued: 'It takes very relatable character (busy working mother with insomnia) and then pushes her further and further till she's questioning her own sanity.'
Also on X, @ScottyHayter warned potential viewers: 'If you don't wish to sleep properly ever again, watch Insomnia on Paramount. Highly recommend.'
@BellHooksChild commented: 'The program Insomnia on Paramount really shows you what happened if you don't tackle childhood trauma.'
As well as starring Line of Duty actress Vicky, Insomnia also features memorable performances from Downton Abbey star Tom Cullen, who plays Robert, and Fear Street actress India Fowler.
Liverpudlian actress Leanne Best features as Phoebe, while Smylie Bradwell stars as Will, Corinna Marlowe plays Patricia, and US series Rome star Lyndsey Marshal plays Caroline. More Trending
Former EastEnders, Casualty, and Doctors actress Michelle Bonnard, who was recently seen in the American series House of the Dragon, plays DI Hildreth.
Later this year, fans can expect Vicky to return to their screens in the third series of Trigger Point – the crime thriller series about a bomb disposal expert.
Season 3 wrapped filming in London earlier this year and is set to hit screens this autumn, with a freshly renewed fourth series coming in 2026.

A MILLIONAIRE couple, who have £2500 a week in disposable income were left horrified when they had to muck out alpacas as a "fun" activity on Channel 5's Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday. After giving the Leaf family a glimpse into their lives by taking them to a hotel in Malta that cost more per night than their monthly rent, the Dissont family were whisked off to rural Lancashire for a budget break. 3 The Dissont family were less than impressed by the glamping break Credit: Channel 5 3 They couldn't believe how little the Leaf's spent on their holiday Credit: Channel 5 3 Andre was not impressed when he had to muck out the sheep Credit: Channel 5 Health and Aesthetics clinic owners Sam and Andre, who earn up to £80,000 a month, blow up to £40,000 on a single break, so they were less than impressed by the Leaf's glamping holiday, with Andre describing the glamping pods as akin to a "sewage silo." "It's smaller than some of the bathrooms in the hotel's we've stayed in", said Sam, who is used to five star luxury. "I've never been on a holiday where I could touch all four walls at the same time", Andre admitted. The couple and their 14-year-old daughter were immediately unsure whether they would be able to hack the trip. "There's no holiday feel to it, it's just endurance", said Andre, after having to lug his suitcase across a muddy field. The posh family, from Cheshire, who blew £155 on a guided tour in Malta, were shocked to find that the same cost was their entire spending budget for the four-day Lancashire trip. "That is so tight", Andre fumed. "We spend that much money just on getting to the airport." The holiday doesn't get off to a great start, with Sam moaning about the cold temperatures and the fact they're "stuck in a field", with nowhere to go. The couple were horrified by the communal bathroom, and couldn't believe that they had to cook food for themselves. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Hell hath no fury like that of a woman scorned as Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) finds out next week when he's left reeling after learning of his wife Danielle's (Natalie Anderson) new relationship… After a painful restorative justice session off the back of lamping conversion therapy preacher, Noah Hedley (Richard Winsor), Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) finds himself becoming privy to some particularly juicy information regarding his boyfriend Theo's wife, Danielle, learning that she is now in a relationship with the wicked preacher… When asked if her character's new relationship meant she'd put her marriage to Theo in the rear-view mirror, Natalie told us: 'Honestly, I don't think she's there. 'I've had this conversation with James, who plays Theo. It's such a rushed relationship, she had the fling with Jason then this is another big thing.' 'There's two things going on. One is trying to show Theo what he's missing with his family life, this is what he's throwing away. 'And there might be an element of her trying to fill the void, Danielle and Theo were married for 19 years, that's a huge amount of time. I've been with my husband 20 years and can't even imagine him not being around. It's a little bit of a rebound.' '[Noah and Danielle] have known of each other and grown up together through the faith with Theo. She has a line about the history between Noah and Theo and says it was their business, she believes Noah was just trying to do right by him. 'They've all come through the church upbringing together. felt for her like a natural person to fill the void of Theo. But also its probably quite pointed, of all the people she could've dated its someone who made his life quite uncomfortable as he was part of Theo's conversion therapy.' As Theo, Danielle and their kids come together at the Bistro, Todd is quick to spill the tea regarding what he's learned…leading to another violent altercation for the fractured family, with Theo accidentally striking his son, Miles (Lewis William Magee). Does Natalie think that Danielle would've revealed the news off of her own back? She says: 'Yes from a perspective of co-parenting she was planning on telling him, and was probably waiting to manage her own feelings first – before Todd steals her thunder and throws her under the bus!' On the Bistro confrontation, Natalie says: 'It all gets a little bit heated, Miles in particular is very upset with Todd, he goes for him and Theo tries to stop him. In the melee this incident happens where Miles ends up with a bloody nose. For Danielle, Todd is at the root of all of this – whether it was an accident or not, Todd has spoilt this and is the thorn in their side.' Todd seeks advice from his ex Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who calls round and sees bedding on the sofa and implores him to speak with Danielle, who's since banned Theo from seeing his kids… On how that particular conversation goes? Natalie teases: 'Her kids are her life she'll do anything to protect them. 'When Todd reaches out, she does want to take that seriously, until Todd starts being Todd and tries to manipulate the situation and throws his little daggers in there! She's not having any of it and has to go back to the drawing board. Playing those scenes was brilliant.' When Natalie was asked what's to come for Danielle, she said: 'As you can imagine it does get messier and more heated. We fall into two camps between Danielle and Theo, and the children will be caught in the middle of that. It is difficult, and representative of a lot of families going through messy divorces. 'That's been amazing to play and its not something I've done before, there's a lot of figuring out what's next and figuring out what's best for the children. How do we feel about Danielle so far? 'When it starts to become a legal thing, how nasty does that get? It's one thing trying to sort it out between yourselves, but when it gets to that next level things becomes more weaponised. There are some calculating things coming up, I'm not sure the audience will still be on Danielle's side after that!' More Trending On her own journey to the heralded cobbles, Natalie describes her excitement and delight at joining the nations most famous street. '…being in the Grimshaw's with Sue Cleaver and Ryan Thomas, oh my god I'm in Coronation Street with Eileen telling Jason off! I almost forgot I was in the scene I was just watching their spat! I was meant to have left and just stood there in the doorway watching it. Amazing. My first scene in Roy's Rolls with David Neilson was incredible.
