Warrior-saint Alluri is an inspiration: Rajnath Singh

Hyderabad: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared that the patience and restraint exhibited by the Armed Forces during 'Operation Sindoor' mirrored the very qualities of Alluri Sitarama Raju, who made an invaluable contribution to India's freedom struggle. Addressing an event organised under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture and Kshatriya Seva Sangham, marking the 128th birth anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju and the 103rd anniversary of the Rampa Rebellion, held here on Friday, the Defence Minister termed him a 'warrior-saint'. He invoked Alluri's moral clarity and grassroots leadership, drawing a direct line between his legacy and the ethos of India's modern defence and development strategy. 'Alluri Ji was not just a revolutionary; he was a movement. His guerrilla resistance, despite limited resources, remains a shining example of courage driven by principle. He taught us that standing up against injustice is not just a right, it is the nation's Dharma,' Mr Singh added.
Referring to 'Operation Sindoor', he stated that the Indian Armed Forces displayed patience and restraint while dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), ensuring complete caution so that no civilian population was harmed.
Rajnath Singh outlined the Government's vision of tribal empowerment, echoing Alluri's lifelong mission to uplift the most marginalised communities. He detailed recent government initiatives, such as the Prime Minister's Tribal Development Mission, Skill India, and the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Campaign, asserting that these are tangible steps towards integrating tribal communities with dignity and opportunity, rather than relying on charity. 'From being denied basic rights during colonial rule to becoming the guardians of sustainable growth today, our tribal brothers and sisters have come a long way, and we are committed to walking alongside them,' he added.
The Union Defence Minister stressed that the Government's efforts were inspired not just by policy but by emotion and a deep commitment to the values Alluri lived and died for. 'His life was not just one of bravery, but of unity,' he said, underlining how Alluri transcended caste barriers and is remembered across India as a 'tribal warrior'. He described the birth anniversary celebrations as a reflection of India's journey under 11 years of transformative governance, and its resolve to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy welcomed Rajnath Singh, highlighting him as a great leader who has revitalised the national defence industry and showcased the strength of India's military through 'Operation Sindoor'. Kishan Reddy mentioned that places where Alluri lived and organised his revolt against the British were developing into tourist destinations with the Centre's support.

PM will bow before Trump deadline on trade deal: Rahul; Goyal hits back

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday targeted PM Narendra Modi over the proposed trade deal with the US and claimed that the PM will 'meekly bow' before the tariff deadline set by the Trump administration as Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal asserted that India negotiates from a position of strength and not under deadlines. Goyal also accused the Congress of 'negotiating and signing agreements that were not in the national interest' during that party-led UPA government's tenure. On Saturday, Goyal said, 'India does not negotiate under deadlines. We negotiate keeping national interest in mind, and national interest is paramount in all our engagements across the world.' He added that India negotiates from a position of strength. 'We are self-confident and can compete with anybody in the world,' he said. In a post on X on Saturday, Gandhi said, 'Piyush Goyal can beat his chest all he wants, mark my words, Modi will meekly bow to the Trump tariff deadline.' Trump has set a deadline of July 9 to finalise the trade agreement with India. The Congress had earlier hit out at the PM over his 'silence' on US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he negotiated a ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan following the military hostilities. India had launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. However, during the recent G7 Summit in Canada's Kananaskis, PM Modi set the record straight and told US President Donald Trump during a 35-minute phone call that at no point was there any discussion, at any level, on an India-US trade deal, or any proposal for mediation by the US between India and Pakistan. Modi had said that 'India does not and will never accept mediation'. With the deadline only days away, Goyal had said that India would accept the proposed trade deal with the US only when it is fully finalised and in national interest. 'Negotiations are underway, FTA (free trade agreement) is possible only if it's beneficial for both sides… it should be a win-win agreement,' Goyal said.

Piyush Goyal slams Siddaramaiah over Covid vaccine remarks, demand public apology

BENGALURU: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal hit out at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for suggesting that the Covid-19 vaccine may have been linked to heart attack deaths, calling the remarks an insult to Indian scientists, startups, and the country's pharmaceutical strength. He demanded a public apology, stating that Siddaramaiah's comments undermined the people who worked tirelessly during the pandemic. Speaking at IIT Madras Sangam 2025 event on Saturday, Goyal said it was unfortunate that such a statement had come from the CM of a state, in a country known as the 'pharmacy of the world.' He said: 'Our scientists and startups worked day and night, conducted experiments, and built two vaccines when developed nations were struggling. India didn't just protect its own people but also supplied vaccines to 150 countries, giving them free to over 100 countries.' Goyal added: 'Now, when the world is thanking India for saving lives, Siddaramaiah is insulting those efforts. Is he siding with countries that have an agenda against the Indian government? What is he trying to say? He owes a public apology.' Referring to the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, Goyal pointed out how India faced a severe shortage of PPE kits and vaccines. 'In just days, Indian startups and enterprises developed PPE kits locally and we became the second-largest producers in the world,' he said. 'When we tried to buy vaccines from abroad, we were pushed to the back of the line. Developed countries hoarded expensive vaccines. But India developed its own. Even today, people across the world thank India for saving lives,' he said, adding, 'And yet, the Chief Minister finds this a matter of shame?'
