Three Army personnel died after their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a 700-foot-deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Sunday, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.
The accident took place around 11.30 am near Battery Chashma when the Army truck, part of a convoy heading from Jammu to Srinagar along National Highway 44, lost control.
A joint rescue effort involving the Army, police, SDRF, and local volunteers was launched immediately. All three soldiers inside the vehicle were found dead at the scene, the report added.
The deceased have been identified as Sepoys Amit Kumar, Sujeet Kumar, and Man Bahadur. Their bodies are being recovered from the gorge.
Officials cited in the report said that the impact of the crash left the vehicle completely mangled.

In a similar incident reported in March, two people were killed after a load carrier transporting fresh vegetables skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Ramban district, according to a police officer quoted by PTI.
The victims, driver Arshid Ahmad and his helper Seva Singh—both around 30 years old—were returning to their village, Ukhral Pogal-Paristan, when the accident occurred near Battery Cheshma along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
A joint rescue operation involving the police and local volunteers was launched, and the bodies were recovered from the gorge, which was several hundred feet deep, the officer said.
In a separate incident that also occurred in March, four people were killed and eight others injured after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the Reasi district, officials said.
The accident happened in the Gangode area when the driver reportedly lost control of the tempo traveller, causing it to plunge into the gorge.
Rescue teams from the local police and SDRF reached the spot promptly to assist. Three people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The eight injured passengers were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

FIR against Jharsuguda airport director for assaulting senior employee

Jharsuguda: A police complaint was filed against Jharsuguda airport director Sandeep Tiwari on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing a senior employee. The incident comes close on the heels of an Army officer allegedly assaulting four SpiceJet employees at Srinagar airport on July 26, following which an FIR was registered against him. According to the complaint filed at Airport police station, Sandeep Kumar Minz, president of the Airports Authority Employees' Union and a senior assistant electrical engineer, claimed he was attacked by Tiwari during a meeting in the director's office. Minz alleges that Tiwari used casteist language before raining punches and kicks on him. The altercation is said to have occurred when Minz presented a list of employee-related demands, leading to a heated exchange that escalated into violence. In response to the incident, a group of airport employees rallied in support of Minz, marching to the police station to demand immediate action against Tiwari. Police have registered a case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act besides various sections of BNS. Tiwari, however, denied the allegations, describing them as "completely baseless".

Sunjay Kapur's Death Being Treated As Non-Suspicious, Clarifies UK Police

Last Updated: Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, approached the UK authorities for a detailed investigation into her son's death. The British police on Tuesday have clarified that the death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur is being treated as 'non-suspicious", reported PTI. Kapur passed away in early June while he was playing at a polo club in Surrey. The latest statement from Surrey Police puts to rest earlier reports that claimed that Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, approached the UK authorities for an investigation into her son's death under 'highly suspicious and unexplained circumstances". The businessman died on June 12 while he was playing polo at the Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park, in Surrey. The Police authorities clarified, 'Police were called to the Guards Polo Club in Virginia Water just after 5 pm on Thursday, June 12, following the death of a man in his 50s at the location." They elaborated that the death was confirmed at the scene by the members of South East Coast Ambulance, who were among the first responders. 'His death is being treated as non-suspicious. As we are not treating this as a criminal offence, any further queries should go via the Coroner's Office," the statement said. The earlier report issued by the office of Priya Sachdev Kapur, wife of the former industrialist, has mentioned that Kapur's death was caused due to 'left ventricular hypertrophy and ischemic heart disease". Both issues led to difficulty in breathing, thus resulting in a heart attack. However, Kapur's mother has been seeking further details of the investigation. As per her lawyer, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, the mother was recently made aware of a post-mortem report dated around July 6. It has been claimed that she has not received any copy from any source regarding the official report into the death. The advocate mentioned, 'There are lots of gaps if it is looked into deeply. Just as an example, throughout, we were given to understand that this is a bee sting that did this. There is no mention of any bee or a sting, anything whatsoever in this report." As per the claims from the lawyer, Rani Kapur has been seeking investigation 'into the conspectus of facts which transpired around the death – before, during and after. Obviously, all those suspicions remain very much there and this report has only aggravated those suspicions." Gaggar also mentioned that the mother neither seeks money nor power but only 'a deeper, proper, neutral, independent investigation." Reportedly, the lawyer has also pointed out that the mother doesn't have any access to any funds. Kapur's death was initially referred to as a result of a bee sting, which was said to have triggered an anaphylactic shock causing a heart attack. The owner of the Aureus polo team, Sunjay Kapur was a well-known player in the circuit and has also played with William, the Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne. The 53-year-old was the Chairman of auto components major Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar). Following his demise, the company's board appointed Jeffery Mark Overly as the chairman on June 23. Upset by the development, Rani Kapur, in a letter dated July 24 to the board, alleged that some people are wresting control and usurping the family legacy even during the mourning phase. She also requested to postpone the company's AGM, which was going to appoint Priya Sachdev Kapur as a non-executive director. The company's shareholders, however, went on with the approval of her appointment on July 25 with a requisite majority. Previously, Rani Kapur has also referred to a will dated June 30, 2015, in which she is claimed to be the sole beneficiary of her late husband Surinder Kapur's estate. This also leaves her as a majority shareholder of the Sona Group, including the auto components firm. However, in a regulatory filing, Sona Comstar claimed that, as per the company records, she has not been a shareholder of the company at least since 2019.
