Colts beginning training camp with a healthy roster; no players on PUP says Chris Ballard

USA Today2 days ago
The Indianapolis Colts will begin training camp with a healthy roster overall.
Chris Ballard said to expect a really physical training camp. He's pretty happy with the competition he's brought in at a number of positions and listed center, swing tackle, linebacker and D-Line rotations as key spots for that.
The Indianapolis Colts will start training camp as a relatively healthy football team.
When speaking with the local media on Tuesday, GM Chris Ballard mentioned that no one is expected to begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to James Boyd of The Athletic.
First and foremost, as Ballard also acknowledged, this means that quarterback Anthony Richardson will be available for the first training camp practice, although the team will monitor his throwing volume.
Also of note, while Zaire Franklin, who had offseason ankle surgery, said he won't be ready for Day 1 of training camp, the fact that he isn't going on the PUP list tells us that he should be available sooner rather than later.
This is also good news for fellow linebacker Jaylon Carlies, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery and did not practice during OTAs or minicamp, along with Jaylon Jones, who missed time this offseason with a "soft tissue injury," according to the Indy Star's Joel Erickson.
Within what can be done under the CBA, Ballard added that this will be a physical training camp for the Colts and that he's happy with the overall competition on the roster.

Vikings' Will Fries nears return despite missing first day of training camp

Last season, the Indianapolis Colts' offensive line was one of its key weapons and areas of promise heading into the season. It quickly took a beating, including losing guard Will Fries for the season following a broken tibia in Week 5 against the Jaguars. Fast forward to this offseason, Fries signed with the Vikings for five-years, $88 million in a deal that was seen as a gamble by some, but a promising investment by the team. Meanwhile, despite the massive money involved, Fries was not yet healthy. Despite his health being up in the air, the former Nittany Lion avoided a PUP list placement to start training camp. He spoke with Sports Illustrated's Will Ragatz after practice on Wednesday, and he informed him he is on track with his recovery timeline and everything is heading in the right direction. Once Fries is back for the Vikings, they will be able to get reps in with their three new starters on the interior offensive line. Ryan Kelly came over from the Colts with Will Fries in free agency, and the team drafted guard Donovan Jackson with their first-round pick in April.
