From mass communication to mass influence: How Uorfi Javed's education fuelled her rise among India's youth

How Uorfi Javed's education fueled her rise among India's youth From a media student in Lucknow to the winner of the Indian edition of The Traitors , Uorfi Javed has built a career that defies convention. Known for her daring fashion choices and viral DIY outfits, she recently took audiences by surprise by outsmarting fellow contestants and emerging victorious in the high-stakes reality show. Her win marked a new phase in her public image—one that showcased strategy, emotional intelligence, and resilience. But long before the spotlight, Uorfi was a student of mass communication, quietly building the tools she would later use to shape her own narrative. Her journey is a reminder that education can be a powerful launchpad—even for careers that break all traditional moulds. Rooted in Lucknow, raised by resilience Uorfi Javed was born on 15 October 1994 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She attended City Montessori School, one of the city's best-known private institutions. While her education offered structure, her home life was marked by instability. She has spoken openly about the abuse she and her siblings faced from their father, which eventually led her and her sisters to leave home and move to Delhi. This early phase of struggle shaped her self-reliance and drive to create her own path. How mass communication shaped Uorfi's voice After school, Uorfi enrolled at Amity University, Lucknow, to study mass communication. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The subject gave her a foundation in media, communication theory, and public engagement. Her education became a quiet but effective tool, helping her manage the media narrative around her—even when controversy surrounded her fashion choices. From fashion intern to internet sensation While in Delhi, Uorfi interned briefly at a fashion designer's studio, which sparked her interest in style as self-expression. It was the first of many such fashion statements—outfits made from flowers, pins, chains, and watches—that grabbed attention and polarised public opinion. Her work may appear provocative, but it reflects careful thought, timing, and a keen awareness of visual storytelling. From social media to mainstream recognition With over five million followers on Instagram and more than 200,000 on X, Uorfi has become one of India's most-followed and searched public figures. In 2022, she ranked ahead of several Bollywood celebrities in Google's list of most-searched Asians. In 2025, GQ India named her one of the '35 Most Influential Young Indians,' recognising her ability to challenge norms and set her own agenda in a crowded media landscape. Arijit Singh surpasses Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran as Spotify's most followed artist

Indian singer Arijit Singh has edged past global pop stars Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to emerge as the most followed artist on music streaming platform Spotify with 151 million followers. American singer Swift, one of the biggest names in the pop music circuit, is in second place with 139.6 million followers and Britain's Sheeran, who came out with his India-set track 'Sapphire' recently, is at number three with 121 million, according to the listing released by data tracking websites Chartmasters and this week. The websites provide in-depth analysis of artists' commercial success, streaming data and overall popularity on Spotify. With 114 million followers, Billie Eilish is fourth on the list. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, is at number five with 107.3 million followers. The top 10 also includes Ariana Grande (105.9 million), Eminem (101.7 million), Drake (99.7 million), Bad Bunny (97.3 million) and Justin Bieber (83.1 million). The other Indians who feature in the list are — A R Rahman (14 with 65.6 million), Pritam (21 with 53.4 million), and Neha Kakkar (25 with 48.5 million). Late music legends Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar feature in the list at the 100th and 144th spots with 22 million and 16 million followers, respectively. The monthly count of listeners, however, throws up a different picture. Though Spotify itself does not come out with data about the followers of musicians, the streaming service does show the number of listeners of every artist on its platform. Arijit's listeners count is 47.4 million every month, while Swift's listeners stand at 82.3 million. Sheeran and Eilish have 98.4 million and 95.1 million monthly listeners, respectively. The Weeknd has 112.2 million listeners. Spotify listeners and followers represent two distinct yet equally important aspects of an artist's audience. Listeners refer to individuals who stream an artist's music within a specific time frame, reflecting the reach and popularity of the music during that period. In contrast, followers are users who actively choose to follow the artist's profile, signalling a deeper level of engagement and interest in staying updated with their future releases, as per the Spotify for Artists website. Arijit's rise in the Indian music industry has been nothing short of meteoric. The 38-year-old started out as a contestant on the reality show 'Fame Gurukul' in 2005 but broke into the big league eight years later with the soulful hit 'Tum Hi Ho' from 'Aashiqui 2' in 2013. The success of the song made him a household name. After that, Arijit quickly became the voice of many moods, be it love, heartbreak or happiness. Over the years, he has delivered a string of chartbusters, including 'Channa Mereya', 'Raabta', 'Kesariya', 'Phir Le Aaya Dil' and 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'.
