MEUDON, France — Thales, a global leader in technology and cybersecurity, today released the findings of its 2025 Cloud Security Study conducted by S&P Global Market Intelligence 451 Research, revealing that AI-specific security has rapidly emerged as a top enterprise priority, ranking second only to cloud security. Over half (52%) of respondents said they are prioritizing AI security investments over other security needs, signaling a shift in how organizations are allocating budgets in response to the accelerated adoption of AI. This year's research captures perspectives on cloud security challenges from nearly 3,200 respondents in 20 countries across a variety of seniority levels. 'With over half of cloud data now classified as sensitive, and yet only a small fraction fully encrypted, it's clear that security strategies haven't kept pace with adoption.'
Cloud is now an essential part of modern enterprise infrastructure, but many organizations are still building the skills and strategies needed to secure it effectively. The variability of controls across cloud providers, combined with the distinct mindset required for cloud security, continues to challenge security teams. This pressure is only increasing as AI initiatives drive more sensitive data into cloud environments, amplifying the need for robust, adaptable protections.
Article content
This year's Thales Cloud Security Study confirms that cloud security remains a top concern for enterprises worldwide. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of respondents ranked it among their top five security priorities, with 17% identifying it as their number one. Security for AI, a new addition to the list of spending priorities this year, ranked second overall, highlighting its growing importance. Despite sustained investment, cloud security remains a complex, persistent challenge that goes beyond technology to include staffing, operations, and the evolving threat landscape.

'The accelerating shift to cloud and AI is forcing enterprises to rethink how they manage risk at scale,' Sebastien Cano, Senior Vice President, Cyber Security Products at Thales, said. 'With over half of cloud data now classified as sensitive, and yet only a small fraction fully encrypted, it's clear that security strategies haven't kept pace with adoption. To remain resilient and competitive, organizations must embed strong data protection into the core of their digital infrastructure.'

The average number of public cloud providers per organization has risen to 2.1, with most also maintaining on-prem infrastructure. This growing complexity is driving security challenges with 55% of respondents reporting that cloud is harder to secure than on-prem, a 4-percentage-point increase from last year. As organizations expand through growth or M&A, they're also seeing a surge in SaaS usage, now averaging 85 applications per enterprise, complicating access control and data visibility.
Article content
This complexity extends to security operations, with many teams struggling to align policies across varied platforms. The study found that 61% of organizations use five or more tools for data discovery, monitoring, or classification, and 57% use five or more encryption key managers.

Attacks target cloud resources with human error remaining a top vulnerability
Article content
Cloud infrastructure is a prime target for attackers as organizations continue to struggle with securing increasingly complex environments. According to the 2025 Thales Cloud Security Study, four of the top five most targeted assets in reported attacks are cloud-based. The rise in access-based attacks, as reported by 68% of respondents, underscores growing concerns around stolen credentials and insufficient access controls. Meanwhile, 85% of organizations say at least 40% of their cloud data is sensitive, yet only 66% have implemented multifactor authentication (MFA), leaving critical data exposed. Compounding the issue, human error remains a major contributing factor in cloud security incidents, from misconfigurations to poor credential management.

Starmer faces down a revolt over UK welfare reform after a troubled first year in office

LONDON (AP) — U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer marks a year in office this week, fighting a rebellion from his own party in a vote Tuesday on welfare reform and reckoning with a sluggish economy and rock-bottom approval ratings. It's a long way from the landslide election victory he won on July 4, 2024, when Starmer's center-left Labour Party took 412 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons to end 14 years of Conservative government. In the past 12 months, Starmer has navigated the rapids of a turbulent world, winning praise for rallying international support for Ukraine and persuading U.S. President Donald Trump to sign a trade deal easing tariffs on U.K. goods. But at home his agenda is on the rocks, as he struggles to convince British voters — and his own party — that his government is delivering the change that it promised. Inflation remains stubbornly high and economic growth low, frustrating efforts to ease the cost of living. Starmer's personal approval ratings are approaching those of Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss, who lasted just 49 days in office in 2022 after her tax-cutting budget roiled the economy. John Curtice, a political scientist at the University of Strathclyde, said that Starmer has had 'the worst start for any newly elected prime minister.' Rebellion over welfare reform On Tuesday, Starmer faces a vote in Parliament on welfare spending after watering down planned cuts to disability benefits that caused consternation from Labour lawmakers. Many balked at plans to raise the threshold for the payments by requiring a more severe physical or mental disability, a move the Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank estimated would cut the income of 3.2 million people by 2030. After more than 120 Labour lawmakers said they would vote against the bill — more than enough to defeat it — the government offered concessions, including a guarantee that no one currently getting benefits will be affected by the change. 'We have listened to the concerns that have been raised to help us get these changes right," Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall said as she opened the debate on the bill in the House of Commons. But while some rebels backed down, others maintained their opposition, forcing the government to offer a further concession hours before the Tuesday evening vote. Ministers pledged that changes to benefits would not be made until after a review, carried out with the help of disability groups. That came after a string of Labour lawmakers spoke against the bill in Parliament. One, Rachel Maskell, called the cuts 'Dickensian.' 'They are far from what this Labour Party is for: a party to protect the poor,' she said. The welfare U-turn is the third time in a few weeks that the government has reversed course on a policy under pressure. In May, it dropped a plan to end winter home heating subsidies for millions of retirees. In June, Starmer announced a national inquiry into organized child sexual abuse, something he was pressured to do by opposition politicians — and Elon Musk. 'It's a failure of leadership for a prime minister with such a big majority to not be able to get their agenda through,' said Rob Ford, professor of politics at the University of Manchester. 'I can't think of many examples of a prime minister in postwar politics suffering such a big setback when presiding over such a strong position in the Commons.' The U-turns also make it harder for the government to find money to invest in public services without raising taxes. The government estimated that its welfare reforms would save 5 billion pounds ($7 billion) a year from a welfare bill that has ballooned since the COVID-19 pandemic. After the concessions, it's only likely to save about half that amount. Starmer acknowledges errors The government argues that it has achieved much in its first year: It has raised the minimum wage, strengthened workers' rights, launched new social housing projects and pumped money into the state-funded health system. But it has also raised taxes for employers and farmers, as well as squeezing benefits, blaming previous Conservative governments for the need to make tough choices. That downbeat argument has done little to make Starmer popular. In recent days, Starmer has acknowledged mistakes. He told The Sunday Times that he was 'heavily focused on what was happening with NATO and the Middle East,' while the welfare rebellion was brewing at home, and should have acted sooner to win over colleagues. UK politics in flux Starmer's struggles are all the more striking, because the opposition Conservative Party had its worst-ever election result in 2024, reduced to only 121 lawmakers. But U.K. politics is in unpredictable flux. A big chunk of Conservative support — and some of Labour's — shifted in this spring's local elections to Reform U.K., a hard-right party led by veteran political pressure-cooker Nigel Farage. Reform has just five legislators in the House of Commons, but regularly comes out on top in opinion polls. If the shift continues, it could end a century of dominance by the two big parties. Starmer's key asset at the moment is time. He doesn't have to call an election until 2029. 'There's still plenty of time to turn things around,' Ford said. But he said that the Labour lawmakers' rebellion 'will make things harder going forward, because it's not like this is the end of difficult decisions that he's going to have to make. 'Barring some magical unexpected economic boom … there's going to be a hell of a lot more fights to come,' he said.

Is Zscaler Stock a Buy, Sell or Hold at a P/S Multiple of 15.56X?

Zscaler, Inc. ZS is one of the leading players in the cybersecurity space, known for its high-growth trajectory. However, its current price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of 15.56X raises concerns about whether the stock's valuation is justified. This multiple comes higher than the Zacks Internet – Services industry average of 14.85X, making the stock seem expensive in comparison. Zscaler Forward 12 Months (P/S) Valuation Chart Zscaler's Slowing Growth Rates are Concerning The overvaluation seems more concerning because Zscaler is facing a slowdown in revenue growth. In the third quarter of fiscal 2025, Zscaler posted year-over-year revenue growth of 22.6%. Zscaler maintained revenue growth in the 20% range across all three quarters of fiscal 2025 compared to growth in the 30% range during fiscal 2024 and the 40% range in fiscal 2023. Zscaler's revenue growth forecast for fiscal 2025 doesn't look encouraging either, as it expects it to be around 22.7%. In its third-quarter fiscal 2025 earnings results, the company acknowledged that economic uncertainty has forced its customers to be cautious with IT budgets, leading to deal scrutiny and longer deal cycles by larger customers. Slowing momentum in the top line is likely to compress margins. Zscaler faces rising competition from other established cybersecurity players, including Palo Alto Networks PANW, CyberArk CYBR and CrowdStrike CRWD. Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike are heavily investing in Agentic Operations, which tends to be the future of cybersecurity, putting significant pressure on Zscaler to innovate. Zscaler and CyberArk overlap across Zero Trust Strategy, Identity Threat Detection and Secure Remote Access verticals. Due to these factors, Zscaler has to keep its spending high on R&D as it has to stay ahead in the market. The company is also expanding its S&M capabilities, particularly by increasing the sales force, which might weigh on its near-term profitability. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Zscaler's fiscal 2025 earnings implies a year-over-year decline of 0.31%. However, not everything is gloom and doom for Zscaler. Zscaler's Investments Could Fuel Long-Term Growth Zscaler remains at the forefront of the cybersecurity space through its innovative efforts. Zscaler has been successful in implementing its Zero Trust Exchange with Zero Trust Everywhere offerings that gained more than 210 adoptions, growing 60% quarter over quarter in the third quarter of fiscal 2025. Zscaler aims to exceed 390 customers by the end of fiscal 2026. Zscaler is also gaining from its agentic operations solutions. Zscaler's SecOps business experienced 120% year-over-year growth in annual contract value since the integration of agentic operations in its security solutions. Driven by these factors, the New Growth Categories, which account for Zero Trust Everywhere, Data Security Everywhere and Agentic Operations, reached the milestone of approximately $1 billion in annual recurring revenues (ARR), while ZS' total ARR reached $2.9 billion in the third quarter of fiscal 2025. In 2025, ZS also launched the Asset Exposure Management solution to enhance organizations' asset risk management capabilities. Zscaler has also partnered with SAP to integrate its Zero Trust Network Access service, Zscaler Private Access, within SAP's RISE framework. ZS acquired Red Canary to enhance its capabilities in Managed Detection and Response operations. Zscaler is also enhancing its portfolio of offerings with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in its products. Zscaler partnered with NVIDIA and integrated NVIDIA's AI technologies, including NIM inference microservices, NeMo Guardrails and Morpheus framework into its Zero Trust Security model. Zscaler partnered with CrowdStrike to leverage CrowdStrike's AI expertise in SIEM, threat intelligence, cyber risk quantification and real-time insights. Beyond product innovation, Zscaler is also implementing new purchase programs like Z-Flex. The Z-Flex purchasing program simplifies procurement and allows customers to scale adoption of Zscaler's platform. Z-Flex generated $65 million in TCV bookings in its first quarter, where large clients like a Fortune 500 tech firm increased their ARR by more than 40% to nearly $19 million. Zscaler Expands Its Government Client Base Zscaler is enhancing its GovCloud solutions to receive faster approvals from the governing bodies. ZS is expanding its presence among government agencies through compliance with government security standards. Zscaler has enabled numerous government agencies to utilize AI-powered Cloud Browser Isolation and IPv6 for secure connectivity, mainstreaming its GovCloud solution among its federal clients. In the last reported quarter, Zscaler reported that it is serving 14 out of 15 U.S. cabinet-level agencies. As more government agencies use Zscaler's products, the company's presence in the public sector could expand, providing a stable growth stream. ZS' recent inclusion in Amazon Web Services' Internet Control Message Protocol, which will ensure that Zscaler's cybersecurity solutions will now be readily accessible to U.S. federal agencies, furthers its reach among federal agencies. All these factors have won investors' confidence in Zscaler's long-term growth strategy. Zscaler's share price has surged 74% year to date, much higher than the Zacks Security Industry's return of 25.7%. Zscaler has also outperformed its peers, including CyberArk, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks, which have returned 22.2%, 48.9% and 12.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Hold ZS Stock for Now Although Zscaler faces challenges related to increasing expenses, shrinking margins and premium valuation, the company's heavy investment in AI, innovative cybersecurity capabilities, customer retention and long-term contracts with government agencies make the stock worth retaining at present. Here's Why Sales & Marketing Spend is Pivotal for Coinbase

Coinbase Global 's COIN sales and marketing (S&M) spend is driving brand credibility, user acquisition and deeper customer engagement. In 2024, Coinbase nearly doubled its S&M spend to $654 million, an increase of 97% year over year, primarily due to higher digital advertising and expanded USDC rewards aimed at retaining assets on the platform. These efforts yielded strong results as monthly transacting users (MTUs) rose 14% to 8.4 million, assets on the platform more than doubled to $404 billion, and trading volume surged 148% to $1.16 trillion. The close alignment between S&M spending and user activity demonstrates a strong return on investment. Notably, stablecoin-based rewards helped lift subscription and services revenues by boosting average on-platform balances. In the first quarter of 2025, S&M expense reached $247 million, more than double year over year, driving a 17% increase in transaction revenues. Sales and marketing spend accounted for 10% of total revenues in 2024 and rose to 12% in the first quarter of 2025. Management estimates sales and marketing spend between $215 million and $315 million in the second quarter of 2025. Coinbase's strategic use of marketing supports scalable growth, asset locking and monetization opportunities across its ecosystem. While increased S&M outlays may put pressure on margins in the near term, historical data suggests that every incremental marketing dollar has driven meaningful growth in volume and recurring income. As such, disciplined S&M investment remains a value-accretive driver of Coinbase's long-term shareholder returns. What About COIN's Competitors? Marketing expenses are critical to Robinhood Markets ' HOOD performance, helping the platform attract and retain a broad base of retail investors in a competitive fintech landscape and supporting growth in assets under custody and transaction-based revenues. Robinhood's marketing expenses increased 57% year over year in the first quarter of 2025 and constituted 26.4% of total revenues. Sales and marketing spending is also essential to Block Inc.'s XYZ growth, fueling expansion across its broad suite of financial services and strengthening relationships in a competitive fintech landscape. For Block, S&M increased 13.6% year over year in the first quarter of 2025 and constituted 8.7% of total revenues. COIN's Price Performance Shares of COIN have gained 37.3% year to date, outperforming the industry. COIN's Expensive Valuation COIN trades at a price-to-earnings value ratio of 60.33, above the industry average of 19.74. But it carries a Value Score of F. Estimates for COIN Witness Northward Movement The Zacks Consensus Estimate for COIN's second-quarter and third-quarter 2025 EPS has moved up 10.3% and 7.1%, respectively, over the past 30 days. The same for full-year 2025 and 2026 has increased 22.8% and 2.7%, respectively.
