Sitting At Lord's Ground, Ignored India Star Reveals BCCI Selectors Paid No Heed To His Plea
Former captain and seasoned batter Ajinkya Rahane expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India, a format he loves, despite getting "no response" from selectors. The 37-year-old, who was a part of India's defeat in the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia, has been out of favour since the tour of the West Indies in 2023. After the conclusion of the series, Rahane was dropped from the fold and continued to put in the hard yards in the domestic setup to force his way into the side yet again. Rahane is present at the 'Home of Cricket', Lord's, for India's third Test against England. After both teams took lunch on the third day, Rahane, known for his robust technique, made an honest admission and declared his yearning to still play Test cricket for India. "I still want to play Test cricket, I am passionate about Test cricket. For me, it is about focusing on the controllable. Frankly, I tried to have conversations with the selectors, but I got no response. What I can do is keep playing. I love Test cricket. I love playing with the red ball. It is a passion," Rahane told Sky Sports. "I still want to play Test cricket!" Ajinkya Rahane joins Athers & Nas at Lord's... and the 37-year-old still has a desire to play in white for India — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) July 12, 2025 After batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Tests, there was a bleak opportunity for Rahane's return. Despite his valuable experience of playing in England, the Indian selectors entrusted their faith in youngsters and infused young blood into the squad. Rahane, who is among the selected Indians to celebrate a century at Lord's, has had a fair share of memorable moments in the whites. During India's tour of Australia for the 2020-20 21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rahane took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, who left the tour due to the birth of his child. With Rahane at the helm, India notched mercurial wins in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne and the decisive Gabba Test to script a fairy-tale series. He finished as India's third-highest run-getter with 268 runs, including a century in the Boxing Day Test in front of a jam-packed crowd at the MCG. Rahane outlined the difference in his captaincy style from Virat's and said, "Every captain must have their own style. When I became the Test captain, I always wanted to back my style, thinking, and instinct. For me, it was about staying true to my character, backing my instincts." Since making his debut in 2013, Rahane has earned 85 Test caps, garnered 5077 runs at 38.46, laced with 12 centuries and 16 fifties. The 37-year-old captained Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy last season, finishing with 467 runs in nine appearances at 35.92, including a solitary ton and a fifty. He steered Mumbai to the semi-finals but failed to reclaim the title after a heartbreaking defeat against Vidarbha.

Neeraj Chopra to clash with Arshad Nadeem in Silesia Diamond League amid India-Pakistan tensions
Neeraj Chopra, the two-time Olympic medallist, is set to reignite his rivalry with Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem at the upcoming Silesia Diamond League 2025. This will be their first face-off since the Paris Olympics 2024, and also amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. At the Paris Games, Nadeem, from Pakistan, made history by clinching gold with a record-breaking Olympic throw of 92.97m, ahead of Neeraj Chopa. Neeraj secured silver for India. Silesia Diamond League 2025 is set to take place in Poland on August 16. Although the official lineup for the Silesia Diamond League 2025 is yet to be out, organisers have already confirmed that both Chopra and Nadeem will be competing in the event. "Neeraj Chopra will face Arshad Nadeem. The Indian-Pakistani battle awaiting the Polish fans will be the first opportunity for revenge after the Paris Olympics," read an official statement from the organisers, as quoted by Neeraj Chopra has had a great year so far in javelin throw. On July 5, he won the top prize at the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a competition named after him. It was held at Sri Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium in Bengaluru. Recently, World Athletics updated its rankings, putting Neeraj back at number one with 1,445 points. He moved ahead of Grenada's Anderson Peters, who has 1,431 points. However, Pakistan's Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem remains ahead of Neeraj on the list. He is currently ranked fourth with 1,370 points. Neeraj had lost his top spot to Peters in September 2024, just after the Paris Olympics, where Neeraj won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45m. On the other hand, Peters took bronze. The year 2025 has been full of wins for Neeraj. He began the year with a victory at the Potch Invitational in South Africa in April. He continued to perform well, placing second at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland. 'Lasted 7 Minutes': Internet Goes Berserk As India & England Players Clash At Lord's
Indian and English players clashed during Day 3's final over at Lord's. Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley exchanged words before umpires intervened to prevent escalation. The internet was in splits as well as in debate as sparks flew between the Indian and the English players during the final over of Day 3 at Lord's, as some words were exchanged with India blaming the hosts of deliberately wasting time and ensuring that a second over isn't bowled in their second innings. In the last five minutes on Day 3, there was enough drama with India skipper Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley engaged in a confrontation, which could have turned uglier after the former, in some choicest language, requested Crawley to show some guts while facing ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. 'I've been moaning about slow play, so it feels strange to me that my favourite over of the series, the final one of the day, lasted 7 minutes 😂," former England pacer Stuart Broad tweeted in the wee hours of Sunday, July 13. Phenomenal. Loved the drama," Dinesh Karthik tweeted. Memes flooded the internet, with several fans saying that Gill reminded them of ace batter Virat Kohli's aggression against opposition teams.
