Arrest of duo with 20 kg consignment uncovers inter-State hashish oil network

The Hindu11-06-2025
The arrest of two men en route to deliver 20 kilogram of hashish oil to a buyer in Bengaluru uncovered a drug supply network spanning Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka.
The accused, Pangi Keshava Rao, 40 from Alluri Sitarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh and Jayaram Khemundu, 26 from Koraput district, Odisha, were picked up from outside a hotel near the Outer Ring Road in Pedda Amberpet by the LB Nagar Special Operations Team (SOT) and Abdullapurmet police.
The seized hashish oil, valued at ₹1.2 crore, was sourced from a man identified as Krishna, 30, also a native of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, who is currently absconding.
Police said Keshava Rao, a farmer, and Khemundu, a tree cutter and civil contractor, were drawn into the drug trade by the lure of easy profits. 'They were procuring hashish oil from Krishna and selling it in Bengaluru for nearly 10 times the cost price. Hyderabad was being used as a key transit point,' said Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu.
Investigators found that Krishna, a childhood friend of Rao, had previously introduced him to the narcotics trade while Khemundu joined in later. Rao had already been arrested by the Anakapalli Town police in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case.
According to the police, two days before the arrest, a Bengaluru-based buyer had placed an order for 20 kilogram of hashish oil. Rao and Khemundu collected the consignment in Hukumpeta and travelled to the outskirts of Hyderabad to meet the buyer.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOT and local police laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed. Apart from the hash oil, police recovered three mobile phones and ₹870 in cash. Efforts are on to trace Krishna and the Bengaluru buyer.

Parents allege RTE students facing ‘discrimination' in Chandkheda school

Ahmedabad: Parents of a number of students admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) Act at Asian Global School in Chandkheda have alleged that their children are facing discrimination and segregation. Despite repeated complaints to the education department, only formal notices have been issued so far, with no concrete action taken. According to the parents, around 46 RTE students have been affected by these issues. Parents alleged that RTE students have been segregated into a single classroom, denied access to the school canteen, and barred from using sports equipment and playground facilities—amenities freely available to fee-paying peers. These practices directly violate the inclusivity mandates laid out in the RTE Act. "Our children are being isolated and treated unfairly. Even after multiple complaints, no action has been taken," said one concerned parent. Falcon fraud: Rs 21 cr diverted to Goa casino, says Enforcement Directorate

Hyderabad: Enforcement Directorate's (ED's) investigation into the Falcon invoice fraud found that Amardeep Kumar, the key accused and director of Capital Protection Force Pvt Ltd, has allegedly diverted nearly Rs 21 crore to a Goa-based casino between 2021 and 2023, using both company and personal accounts. The casino alerted financial intelligence agencies regarding suspicious high-value transactions linked to Amardeep Kumar. Capital collected investments worth Rs 792 crore from investors under the guise of 'Falcon Invoice Discounting Scheme'. The accused promised investors high returns by claiming the investments would be used for invoice discounting activities. An app named 'Falcon Invoice' was developed to collect deposits and was promoted through Google, YouTube, and other digital platforms. However, the probe found that no actual invoice discounting business existed. ED stated that the scam proceeds were instead diverted to various personal and business interests of Amardeep. These include investments in equity shares, unsecured loans to companies, the purchase of an aircraft, and the acquisition of immovable properties. Properties were found registered in the names of Amardeep, his family members, Rhett Healthcare Pvt Ltd, and Rhett Herbal Pvt Ltd. A portion of the proceeds of crime was allegedly routed to a prominent casino in Goa. In March 2025, ED had seized a private jet — Hawker 800A — allegedly bought by Amardeep using proceeds from the scam. The personal accounts of Amardeep had already received large sums — Rs 55 crore and Rs 35 crore respectively — from the Capital Protection Force company's main account. ED had found that Rs 2.82 crore was transferred directly from the account of Capital Protection Force Pvt Ltd to the company owned by the casino between Oct 2021 and March 2023. Another Rs 16.3 crore was routed from Amardeep's personal account — into which approximately Rs 55 crore was earlier received from the company — between April 2021 and Feb 2023. Additionally, Rs 1.15 crore was transferred between May 2023 and July 2023 from another personal account of Amardeep, which received about Rs 35 crore from the company's funds.
