Rylan Clark says 'once was enough' as he battles 'sharp pain' in love life insight
Getting over a relationship can be difficult, it's a mountain range of emotions on a turbulent sea as both parties attempt to heal following the split.
Whether there has been a marriage or not, break-ups can be agonising ordeals, meaning that moving forward can be challenging and take considerable time for all involved.
This was one topic former X Factor contestant Rylan Clark, 36, explored with his guest Vanessa Williams on his podcast 'Rylan: How to Be In Love', during which they shared their romantic experiences.
Rylan has been wed once, for six years to Dan Neal, between 2015 and 2021. Meanwhile, The Devil Wears Prada Musical star Vanessa, 62, has walked down the aisle three times.
She was first married to Ramon Hervey II, then to Rick Fox, and finally to Jim Skrip. What both Rylan and actress Vanessa share is that the timing of one of their marriages coincided, with Vanessa tying the knot with Jim in 2015 before their divorce in 2021.
Reflecting on their divorces, Rylan confessed that it wasn't something he would wish to endure again, due to the immense anguish it brought him.
Rylan revealed he continues to experience excruciating reminders of his heartache to this day, sharing: "I've had to do it once and once was enough for me.
"You still get that weird sharp pain every now and again.
"It'll be something so stupid like, 'Oh that glass looks like...' and it's, like, that little. I couldn't imagine going through that twice, I don't know how I'd fare."
Rylan has previously opened up about his marriage to Dan Neal, with the BBC Radio 2 presenter confessing he experienced certain feelings he wasn't familiar with post-divorce.
Speaking on the same podcast, he admitted: "I have found that, since the breakdown of my marriage, if I've gone on any dates or started seeing people, when I've had sex with them, I lose interest pretty quickly.
"I actually got pretty worried about a year or two ago, because I thought, hang on a minute, I don't remember this from BM I call it, before marriage.
"I don't remember having sex with someone, or orgasming with someone, climaxing, and then after that thinking, 'Oh, I'm just not bothered now'."

This is what a porn star really thinks of age verification on adult sites
This week a modelling website I've been using for decades suddenly demanded I upload my passport to prove my age. Me. The wrinkliest model in town! I giggled, then realised they weren't kidding, and got grumpy. It turns out that the UK, once a sensible isle, is now pioneering a new national pastime: legislating the internet into oblivion. The latest entrant into this noble tradition is the Online Safety Act, which aims to make the web safer for children by demanding adult sites implement industrial-strength age verification. It sounds reasonable. After all, no one wants kids stumbling onto triple anal fisting when they're innocently trying to get their homework done. More seriously, there's no doubt we should be doing all we can to protect children from the dangers of social media. But like many well-meaning policies, this one seems to have been cooked up by people who understand the internet the same way Victorian physicians understood female hysteria. How do you prove someone's age online? The government's answer is 'upload ID', which, in porn terms, translates to: please send a picture of your driver's license to a company whose business model is tits. I mean, maybe we'll look after it and not tell everyone… unless your preferences are totally hilarious. Porn is one of the few areas where people universally do not want their personal data stored. Do we really want some anonymous third-party age verifier compiling a database of who's watching what, and when? That's not a regulatory measure — it's a blackmailer's wet dream. There's also the illusion of effectiveness. The idea that teenagers — the most technologically savvy and hormonally motivated demographic on earth — will be stymied by a login screen would be charming in its innocence, were it not so irritating. Adult content producers now face a labyrinth of compliance hell. They must become data custodians, biometric bouncers, and security experts, lest they be slapped with gigantic fines. A clips site is demanding I remove videos of my mother because I didn't obtain a model release form for her when they were uploaded many years ago. It wasn't obligatory then, and now I can't, her being dead. These are the only videos I have of my mother. I hope society feels its moral well-being is saved if they're destroyed. The law doesn't just affect the mega-sites; it hits indie producers, like me and many of my chums. If we don't adhere to these rules we risk being shut out of our own audience. This isn't regulation, to me. It's gentrification and class war. Plenty of women dream of turning pictures of their feet into a side hustle – but these new rules could spell an end to that. People won't stop consuming porn, either — they'll just get it from sketchier places. It's like prohibition… the drinkers kept on drinking. More Trending The assumption that all pornographic content is generated by some evil sleaze machine aimed at corrupting youth is nonsense. Much of modern adult content, including everything I make, is inclusive, ethical, and joyous. The law punishes the people trying to do it right, while shady operators just change servers and keep streaming. If the UK really wanted to help, maybe they'd teach proper digital literacy, invest in real sex education, and talk to actual experts in online safety. Rylan Clark's ongoing heartbreak after divorce as he battles 'sharp pain'
Rylan Clark has opened up about his divorce from ex Dan Neal and his struggles years after separation. Getting over a relationship can be extremely difficult, it's a mountain range of emotions on a stormy sea as both parties deal with their emotions and attempt to heal following the split. Whether or not marriage was involved, the end of a relationship often leaves both individuals wrestling with grief, confusion and the task of healing. This was one topic former X Factor contestant Rylan Clark explored with his guest Vanessa Williams on his podcast 'Rylan: How to Be In Love', during which they shared their personal romantic experiences. Rylan was married to Dan Neal for six years, from 2015 to 2021. Whilst The Devil Wears Prada musical star Vanessa has been married three times, the Express reports. Her marriages include Ramon Hervey II, followed by Rick Fox, and most recently Jim Skrip. Interestingly both Rylan and Vanessa shared a similar timeline in one of their marriages, with Vanessa marrying Jim in 2015 and divorcing in 2021, the same years as Rylan's marriage. Reflecting on the experience, Rylan admitted he wouldn't want to go through a divorce again, describing the emotional toll as deeply painful. "I've had to do it once, and once was enough for me," he confessed. "You still get that weird sharp pain every now and again." The 36 year old continued: "It'll be something so stupid like, 'Oh that glass looks like...' and it's, like, that little. I couldn't imagine going through that twice. I don't know how I'd fare." Rylan has previously opened up about his marriage to Dan, with the BBC Radio 2 presenter sharing the emotional toll of his marriage ending. Rylan met Dan whilst on set for Big Brother's Bit on the Side, when Dan was giving his eviction interview in 2013. The pair hit it off instantly, with Rylan previously revealing to the Guardian in 2019, that he knew Dan was the one from their first kiss. He said: "The first one I had with my husband Dan in late 2013. I just knew." Their marriage came to an end in 2021, with Rylan admitting his infidelity was the reason for their split. He revealed in his 2022 memoir that he had been unfaithful years before and decided to confess in May 2021, not expecting that Dan would leave him. On the same podcast with Vanessa, Rylan delved deeper revealing how the breakdown of his marriage affected his romantic life in unexpected ways. He admitted: "I have found that, since the breakdown of my marriage, if I've gone on any dates or started seeing people, when I've had sex with them, I lose interest pretty quickly." "I actually got pretty worried about a year or two ago, because I thought, hang on a minute, I don't remember this from BM, I call it, before marriage." "I don't remember having sex with someone, or orgasming with someone, climaxing, and then after that thinking, 'Oh, I'm just not bothered now'."

My dad wants to propose to his young girlfriend — but she's flirting with me
Knowing your mum or dad is out on the dating scene can feel pretty weird— but this week's reader has even more reason to feel uncomfortable. This 21-year-old got in touch because his dad's girlfriend, who is just 29, keeps flirting with him. From inappropriate touches to flirty jokes, he thinks she's crossing a line —but should he tell his dad? Read the advice below and make sure to read last week's column, where one reader is starting to doubt his girlfriend's far-fetched stories. My brother and I were still quite small when our mum sadly died of cancer. Since then, Dad's been involved with a few women but after one moved in and it all ended in disaster, he has tried to keep his love life away from us. However, now that we're adults – my brother 19 and me 21 – he's decided that it's safe to be open about his 'lady friends'. About a year ago, he met a woman at the cycling club he goes to, and in the last six months or so he has started bringing her home. She is only 29, my dad 47, so she's nearer in age to me than him. I've got to be honest – she is fit in every sense of the word. Maybe if I met her in a bar I'd be attracted to her, but she's my father's girlfriend so there's nothing there. I don't look at her in a romantic way. X Factor icon Diana Vickers and Metro's dating expert Alice Giddings dive into your wildest sex, love, and dating dilemmas – every Tuesday. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or watch on YouTube. And be sure to follow and subscribe so you never miss an episode. You can also join the fun on our WhatsApp Group Chat here – share your dilemmas and Diana and Alice may just give you a call. However, that feeling doesn't seem to be reciprocated. Every time we're alone together, she flirts with me – cracking inappropriate and suggestive jokes, putting her arms round me, rubbing up against me – to the extent that it's embarrassing. She even said recently that if she'd met me before Dad, she would definitely have picked me instead. My dad worships the ground she walks on, and thinks I'm just jealous if I say anything against her. Recently he has talked about popping the question, which is an awful prospect. I definitely don't want her as my step-mother or my dad's wife. Unfortunately, you have no control over the behaviour of your dad's girlfriend, but you do have control over how you respond to her. You really need to have an honest chat with this woman when your dad isn't around, and make it clear that you're not attracted to her – even if that involves a lie. She needs to know where the boundaries are, and that you're the offspring of her partner rather than a potential boyfriend. Tell her you'll speak to your father if her inappropriate behaviour continues. If she really is so thick skinned that she carries on flirting with you, you're going to have to tell your dad. He'll probably be annoyed at first, but I bet he'd rather know than not – especially if he's thinking of proposing. Don't lose your cool – just tell him in a calm, measured way, what has been happening. More Trending This woman is clearly one person to him and another to you, but from what you say, she's not the sort of woman he needs in his life. That said, there's nothing you can do other than tell the truth. After that, it's up to them to sort out. Laura is a counsellor and columnist. Got a sex and dating dilemma?
