Indonesian couple nabbed in KL over immigration forgery ring
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the couple were among five Indonesians aged 35 to 65 detained during the 8 pm 'Op Serkap' raid, which followed a month-long intelligence operation by 15 officers.
The syndicate, suspected to have been operating for three years, offered illegal services such as producing fake Malaysian passes for RM50, falsifying cross-border stamps involving Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, as well as removing security ink passports from for RM20.
'These forged documents appear genuine to the untrained eye, but immigration officers can spot the fakes,' he told reporters at the Home Ministry Complex here today.
Preliminary investigations revealed the fake security stamps were likely sourced from an international network based in Jakarta, with payments made in cash and online.
Seized items included a laptop, printers, counterfeit embassy seals from several countries, RM4,750 in cash, a Mazda, 17 passports, and forged marriage and birth certificates.
None of the individuals arrested possessed valid travel documents and are being investigated under Sections 55D, 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
All suspects are currently held at an immigration detention depot pending further action.
Meanwhile, the Repatriation Programme 2.0 launched on May 19 has seen the return of 1,911 undocumented migrants from 14 countries, generating RM912,720 in revenue.
Mohammed Saupee warned the public against falling prey to middlemen who attempt to bribe officers or deceive employers under the guise of expediting the programme.

Thailand finds no livestock drug smuggling, pledges cooperation
SUNGAI GOLOK: Thai authorities have not received any reports or evidence suggesting that drug traffickers are using livestock, including cattle, to smuggle narcotics across the border. Narathiwat Deputy Governor Wichan Chaisetsumpan said authorities are unaware of any cases of drugs being smuggled inside livestock across the border. "So far, there is no information or cases within our agencies about such a method being used to smuggle drugs," he told reporters when met here yesterday. He was responding to Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat's remarks last week, who said intelligence suggested drug traffickers were hiding narcotics inside livestock imported from a neighbouring country. "We received information a few months ago indicating that some cattle and goats, legally imported across the border, were not being fed by their owners during the quarantine period," he said. Malaysia shares a long and porous border with southern Thailand. However, Wichan said Thailand continues to work closely with Malaysian authorities including those in Kelantan to curb cross-border smuggling involving narcotics, livestock, and other illicit activities. "Both countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently to jointly tackle smuggling issues along the border," he added. Commenting on the recent closure of illegal jetties along the Kelantan border by Malaysian police, he said similar action had been taken on the Thai side along the Golok river. "Illegal jetties on our side have also been shut down but we allow limited flexibility based on the needs of local residents," he said. Wichan also said that Thai authorities would allow Malaysians to cross the river, but only during specific times and under strict conditions. "They are allowed to cross at designated times, provided they do not carry any prohibited items. "Thai military personnel will maintain strict surveillance along approved routes," he said. Wichan was speaking after attending the closing of a boat racing competition here involving 40 teams including five from Malaysia. Also present were Kelantan Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Nor and Sungai Golok Mayor Saleeha Mayutoh.

Zayn Rayyan's Case: Zaim Ikhwan Acquitted Of Neglect Charge, Ismanira Ordered To Defend Herself
PETALING JAYA, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Sessions Court here today acquitted and discharged Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, from the charge of neglecting the six-year-old autistic child to the point of causing physical harm to him, two years ago. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh made the decision after finding that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Zaim Ikhwan, 30, at the end of the prosecution case. However, the court ordered Zayn Rayyan's mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, to enter her defence on the same charge. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between 12 noon on Dec 5 to 9.55 pm on Dec 6 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted. Judge Syahliza in her summary judgment said that after examining the evidence of the prosecution witnesses in maximum assessment as well as the arguments of the prosecution and defence, the court found that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Zaim Ikhwan at the end of the prosecution case. "Therefore, the first accused (Zaim Ikhwan) is discharged and acquitted while for the second accused (Ismanira), the court finds that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case against the second accused and she is called to defend herself in accordance with Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001," said the judge. Zayn Rayyan neglect trial: Mother ordered to enter defence, father acquitted of charges
KUALA LUMPUR: The mother of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin has been ordered by the Sessions Court to enter her defence on Monday (July 21). Sessions Court judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh made the order on Ismanira Abdul Manaf after a maximum evaluation of the evidence and exhibits in the case. Her co-accused and husband Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, however, was acquitted of the charge. On April 24, the prosecution closed the case after calling 28 prosecution witnesses throughout the 20-day trialwhich began on Feb 4. Among the prosecution witnesses called to testify were the first person to find Zayn Rayyan's body, Faizul Najib Abd Munaim, Auni Afiqah Abas who was Zayn Rayyan's caregiver, forensic medical consultant Dr Rohayu Shahar Adnan, three investigating officers and two 10-year-old child witnesses. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented both accused. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted.
