Operators of app-based cabs suspend strike for three days
Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, president of the association, told PTI that the strike, which started on Wednesday, was being suspended till next Tuesday to give time to the Maharashtra government to respond to their demands.
'We have only suspended the strike, not called it off. If our demands are not accepted by Tuesday, services will be shut again," he said.
At a meeting with the association's representatives, transport department officials sought time till Tuesday, said Kshirsagar.
In the meantime, app-based cabs will charge the rate fixed by the government for the conventional black-and-yellow taxis and not the rate appearing in the apps of cab aggregators (such as Ola or Uber), he said.
He also urged commuters and drivers to use www.onlymeter.in, a fare calculation website based on official government rates, to avoid overcharging.
The Maharashtra Gig Kamgar Manch has demanded rationalisation of fares, bringing fares on par with those of the black-and-yellow metered cabs, prohibition of bike taxis, a cap on permits of black-and-yellow cabs and auto rickshaws, formation of a welfare board for drivers of app-based cabs and enactment of the `Maharashtra Gig Workers' Act' on the lines of other states. Bihar monsoon session begins; Rs 57,946 cr supplementary budget tabled
Patna, Jul 21 (PTI) The five-day monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly began on Monday, with tributes paid to political leaders who passed away earlier this year. This was followed by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who also holds the Finance portfolio, presenting the first supplementary budget of around Rs 57,947 crore for the current financial year. Anthem Biosciences stock jumps over 28 pc in market debut trade
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Shares of Anthem Biosciences Ltd ended with a premium of over 28 per cent against the issue price of Rs 570 on Monday. The company's stock started trading at Rs 723.10, surging 26.85 per cent from the issue price on the BSE. During the day, it jumped 31 per cent to Rs 746.70. Shares of the firm ended at Rs 730.35, up 28.13 per cent. On the NSE, the stock listed at Rs 723.05, rallying 26.85 per cent. It finally ended at Rs 730.35, surging 28.13 per cent. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 41,017.19 crore. In volume terms, 39.86 lakh shares of the firm were traded on the BSE and 410.14 lakh shares on the NSE during the day. The Rs 3,395-crore initial public offer of Anthem Biosciences Ltd got subscribed 63.86 times on the closing day of bidding on Wednesday last week, driven by overwhelming participation from institutional buyers. The initial share sale had a price band of Rs 540-570 per share. Since the IPO was entirely an Offer For Sale (OFS), the company will not receive any funds from the issue, and the proceeds will go to the selling shareholders. Anthem is an innovation-driven and technology-focused Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CRDMO) with fully integrated operations spanning across drug discovery, development and manufacturing. It also manufactures and sells complex, specialised fermentation-based Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), including probiotics, enzymes, peptides, nutritional actives, vitamin analogues and biosimilars. Outstanding leader: CPI(M) pays rich tributes to VS Achuthanandan
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) The CPI(M) on Monday expressed profound grief at the demise of former Kerala chief minister and veteran party leader V S Achuthanandan. Achuthanandan, one of India's most respected Communist leaders and a key figure in Kerala's political history, passed away on Monday at the age of 101. The veteran leader died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram while undergoing treatment following a cardiac arrest. The CPI(M) in a statement called Achuthanandan an outstanding leader and a veteran of the Communist movement. 'The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) dips its red banner in salute to V S Achuthanandan. It conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife, son and daughter," the CPI(M) said in the statement. Fondly called VS, Achuthanandan was an able organiser who spearheaded various struggles in Kerala. His first brush with the trade union movement came when he organised the coir workers at the Aspinwall Company where he had started working, the CPI(M) said. 'In 1940, when he was just 17 years old, VS joined the Communist party. Krishna Pillai assigned him work among the agricultural workers in Kuttanad, who were subjected to terrible exploitation by the landlords. 'During the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising against the Diwan of Travancore, VS had to go underground. After being arrested, he was subjected to severe custodial torture," the CPI(M) said. VS was elected to the state committee of the united Communist party in 1956 and to its national council in 1958. He was the last of the 32 surviving members of the national council who left to form the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He served as the secretary of the Kerala state committee of the CPI(M) from 1980 to 1991. Achuthanandan was elected to the central committee of the party in 1964 and became a member of the Polit Bureau in 1985. He was relieved from the central committee, of which he had become a special invitee, due to age in 2022. Achuthanandan was elected to the Kerala Assembly for seven terms. He also served as the leader of opposition for two terms and was the chief minister from 2006 to 2011. 'His tenure as the chief minister was marked by several legislative and administrative measures for the welfare of the working people," the CPI(M) said. During his eight-and-a-half-decade long association with the party, Achuthanandan witnessed the steady growth of the Communist movement in Kerala. 'Known for his austere lifestyle and unwavering commitment to social justice, Achuthanandan left an indelible mark on Kerala politics. In his death, the party and the Communist movement have suffered a grievous loss," the CPI(M) said.
