Forget the Rumored M4 MacBook Air, Apple's M2 13-Inch Model Is Still a $799 Bargain

Yahoo03-03-2025

Even though Apple is tipped to have new M4 MacBook Air laptops ready to launch as soon as this week, the older M2 model is still a stellar machine. The M2 MacBook Air is a fantastic option with a fast chip, plenty of RAM and a stunning display. In fact, we'd argue that at the right price, it might even be the best laptop for a whole lot of people. Amazon is now offering the M2 13-inch MacBook Air for just $799, a price that we'd definitely suggest is the right one.
This price is among the lowest we've seen, but we can't vouch for how long it'll stick around. We'd suggest placing your order soon if you want to be absolutely sure of getting the best price available.
Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.
One of the great things about the M2 MacBook Air is that it has a larger 13.6-inch screen than its predecessor's 13.3-inch screen, giving you more real estate to work with. Its gorgeous Liquid Retina display has a 2,560x1,664-pixel resolution, which is perfect for watching movies or getting some creative work done. The M2 chip is powerful enough for creatives to do their work, despite this machine's portability.
Its smaller size is thanks to the fact that it doesn't have any internal fans, meaning that Apple can make it as thin as the motherboard and battery inside. The 256GB of storage is perhaps a little on the small side, but it's more than enough for a ton of people especially if you're using the laptop for school or office duties.

Apple's M2 MacBook Air is a solid laptop at a price that makes it difficult to ignore, especially when a discount like this crops up. The upgrade to 16GB of RAM makes it all the more compelling, and the vast majority of MacBook Air buyers will get many years of use out of this machine before it needs to be upgraded. The M3 version is faster, sure, and the M4 version will be faster still. But unless you're really putting your laptop through the wringer we can't imagine most people noticing much of a difference anyway.

3 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stocks That Still Look Like Long-Term Winners

Palantir Technologies is a booming business, but its stock price continues to defy gravity. Apple is a legendary name, but its AI efforts haven't impressed. Alphabet faces a double-edged situation in AI. 10 stocks we like better than Palantir Technologies › When you consider whether to invest in a company for the long term, you'll often find that stocks fall into two groups. The first includes stocks of companies that have done well. For those, it's about whether they can continue to perform at a high level. The other consists of flawed stocks, companies facing adversity or potential challenges that may deter investors. Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR), Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL) are three well-known technology stocks representing a mix of both groups. Palantir has been one of the market's biggest winners in artificial intelligence (AI), while investors wonder whether Apple and Alphabet are losing their edge. Here is the skinny on each name and why all three can still be long-term winners. Palantir Technologies continues to chug higher, racking up a blistering 2,100% gain since 2023. The company has become a leader in developing AI software on its proprietary platforms for government and enterprise customers. And since launching AIP, its AI-focused platform, in mid-2023, Palantir's growth has continued to accelerate. The company still has fewer than 500 commercial customers in the United States, a tiny fraction of the country's 20,000 large corporations. Then, you factor in Palantir's close military ties (government contracts accounted for 55% of revenue in Q1 2025) at a time when America is involved in numerous geopolitical conflicts, and it's easy to envision years of high-speed growth. Despite its best efforts, Palantir's business hasn't kept pace with its share price. The stock has rocketed to a forward P/E ratio of 245, which is excessive, to say the least, for a business expected to compound earnings at an annualized rate of 31% over the long term. Given its growth momentum, both in the government and with commercial customers, Palantir's business appears poised to continue winning. That said, investors will probably want to wait for some significant dips to buy the stock at a more reasonable valuation. AI seemed like a layup for Apple, with a wide-moat ecosystem spanning more than 2.35 billion active iOS devices worldwide. All Apple has needed to do is integrate AI capabilities into its iOS platform, and it would instantly be one of the leading consumer-facing AI companies, if not the leader. Yet Apple has struggled to launch notable AI features smoothly, and its underwhelming rollout of Apple Intelligence, its first attempt at AI, compelled the company to reorganize its AI team. The good news is that Apple's iOS remains one of the stickiest consumer ecosystems, which buys time for Apple to figure things out. People buy Apple products and use them for several years. The devices, whether it's a phone, computer, tablet, or watch, sync and work together. People become accustomed to iOS and develop a commitment to the ecosystem. Users may drift away from Apple eventually if it doesn't figure out AI, but it's unlikely that Apple's user base would implode overnight. Ultimately, Apple is a behemoth, a financial juggernaut with one of the world's most influential brands. While Apple may not deliver the same type of returns as in years past at a $3 trillion market cap, the stock should have a relatively high floor, based on the company's massive stock buybacks, growing dividend, and sticky business model. It's worth the leap of faith that Apple will solve its AI frustrations. Google's parent company, Alphabet, is facing some pressure from several directions. AI models have become popular enough to begin siphoning traffic away from traditional search engines, like Google. At the same time, U.S. regulators have successfully pursued litigation against Alphabet for anti-competitive practices, which could result in fines or even forced divestitures that would potentially impact its core advertising business. The adversity has one of the world's most prominent technology stocks trading at a P/E ratio of just 19 today. Yet, AI is arguably more an opportunity than a threat. Alphabet has integrated AI summaries into its search results, successfully monetizing them. Despite all the worries about AI, Google's ad revenue still grew by 10% in Q1 2025. Plus, Google Cloud is growing in size and profitability due to AI boosting demand for cloud services. If that weren't enough, Alphabet's autonomous ride-hailing business, Waymo, is continuing to expand its footprint across the United States and could eventually become a significant piece of Alphabet's business. When you put it all together, it seems that this technology giant will continue to remain a prominent force across the AI and technology space. That's an easy bet to make when the stock trades near its lowest valuation of the past decade. If You Own an iPhone, Amazon Is Offering a Free AirTag Just Before Prime Day

Apple doesn't often discount products, and AirTags have never been on sale from the Apple website or in Apple stores. Amazon, however, occasionally surprises us with exclusive pricing on these useful Bluetooth trackers. For the best value, a pack of AirTags is nearly always a better buy than a single one. Amazon is also running a great deal just in time for Prime Day: purchase three AirTags and receive a fourth free. That drops the price of four AirTags to just $74, down from the regular $99 ($25 each + get one free). That's one of the best discounts we've ever seen on these trackers. See 4-pack AirTags on Amazon AirTag is a small device that's perfect for keeping track of your keys, wallet, luggage, backpack and anything else you want to stay with. It's simple to set up and you just have to tap your iPhone (or iPad) and the AirTag is paired in an instant. Every AirTag is about the size of a large coin so it's simple to drop into pockets. It has a built-in speaker to play a sound to help you find your things and you can use Siri to have them locate it for you as well. Precision Finding is one of the neatest aspects, and it uses the Ultra Wideband technology. On some iPhone models, this feature directs you to your AirTag with visual, haptic and auditory cues. For items far away, the AirTag uses the huge Find My network: Hundreds of millions of Apple devices collaborate to locate your lost items. When you mark your AirTag as lost, you get a notification the very moment it's detected by another device in the network. Apple takes privacy seriously: All interactions with the Find My network are encrypted and anonymous. Location data and history are never stored on the AirTag itself so your information is safe. AirTags also support sharing with up to five people able to track an item together. Obviously, it also boasts an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating, which makes it capable of withstanding spills, rain, and everyday handling. The device uses a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery with a lifespan of over a year. This makes maintenance simple and hassle-free. The AirTag is one of the smarter things you can do for your everyday items at this price range. See 4-pack AirTags on Amazon

I review TVs for a living and most people spend too much on HDMI cables — here's what you really need

I've been testing TVs for over a decade, and in that time, I reckon I've answered more questions from friends and readers about HDMI cables than about TVs themselves. If you search for HDMI cables on Amazon, you might get the impression that the results go on forever. It's no wonder that folks are confused. But I'll let you in on a secret: While there's no shortage of pricey cables, you don't need to spend a lot on these things. I mean, sure, you should avoid cheap, flimsy cables that'll likely need to be replaced in short order, but you shouldn't overspend, either. Here's what you need to know. There are two types of HDMI specifications found on today's TVs: HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1. The latter is a newer spec that allows for better audio support, higher refresh rates and additional gaming enhancements like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Affordable TVs tend to offer HDMI 2.0, while high-end models — including most of the best TVs on the market — are equipped with a full slate of HDMI 2.1-compatible ports. Mid-range TVs often come with both. If you own an entry-level TV, or one from several years ago, there's a very good chance it doesn't support HDMI 2.1. If you're planning on buying (or already own) a mid-range or high-end TV, at least two of its HDMI inputs are likely 2.1-compatible. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Folks in the first group can safely settle for Premium High-Speed HDMI cables. Forget all the jargon, though. Instead, just look for sturdy cables from a reputable brand with the following bandwidth: 18 Gbps. 18 Gbps will support everything your TV has to offer. It supports HDR and allows gamers to enjoy 4K titles at 60Hz (though not 120Hz). It'll work with whatever you've decided is the best streaming device for your living room. It has its limitations, but if you're sticking a small-ish TV in a guest bedroom with nary a soundbar, you'll be fine. These 18-Gbps, High-Speed HDMI cables come in a pack of two for around ten bucks. If you're a casual viewer using an affordable TV that only supports HDMI 2.0 functionality, these are a good place to start. People who own a mid-range or high-end TV — especially those released in recent years — ought to avoid Premium High-Speed HDMI cables limited to 18 Gbps if they want to make the most of their TV's HDMI 2.1's perks. These perks include a host of gaming features (like playing 4K games at 120Hz or above), but there are audio-related perks to consider, too, like eARC support. (You can read more about that in our guide to ARC and eARC.) Folks who find themselves in this group should buy Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables with a bandwidth of 48 Gbps. 48 Gbps is enough to make the most out of a TV's HDMI 2.1-related capabilities. If you bought your TV (or plan on buying one) in part because it supports things like 4K gaming at 120Hz or eARC functionality, just make sure that the cables you pick up are 48 Gbps. These 48-Gbps, Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables from Monoprice are affordable, braided for additional durability and capable of supporting your new TV's A/V- and gaming-related features. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than this on Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables. You will not see a difference in picture quality between a gold-plated cable and a basic cable. Take it from someone who's been drowning in cables for years: You really don't need to get fancy with these things. For home viewers, the advantages of silver-, bronze-, or gold-plated cables are primarily aesthetic. You will not see a difference in picture quality between a gold-plated cable and a basic cable if they're rated for the same features. Now, you might decide that a braided cable feels more sturdy, or you might just appreciate how the look of a more premium cable blends in with the rest of your A/V equipment. If you feel comfortable spending up on these options, by all means, indulge. Just don't expect to get a better picture. When shopping for new HDMI cables, consider the following: cable length, bandwidth and the sturdiness of the materials. Is your TV limited to HDMI 2.0 inputs? Buy 18-Gbps HDMI cables. Does your TV support HDMI 2.1-related features that you'd like to use? Buy 48-Gbps cables. Are you unsure about what HDMI-related features your TV supports? Play it safe and stick to Ultra-High Speed, 48-Gbps HDMI cables. They're not that much more expensive, and in the worst-case scenario, you'll have better, more capable cables to use in the future.
