Subway hires former Burger King executive Jonathan Fitzpatrick as new CEO
The Miami-based sandwich chain said Monday that Jonathan Fitzpatrick will join the company on July 28.
Fitzpatrick is the first CEO hired since Subway was bought by the private equity firm Roark Capital in 2024. And Roark didn't have to look far to find him.
Since 2012, Fitzpatrick has been the president and CEO of Driven Brands, which is also owned by Roark. Driven Brands is the parent company of auto service brands like Meineke Car Care Centers and Maaco.
Before joining Driven Brands, Fitzpatrick held multiple senior leadership positions at Burger King, including executive vice president.
Subway was founded in 1965 and was still owned by its founding families when it was purchased by Roark. It's one of the world's largest restaurant chains, with nearly 37,000 outlets in more than 100 countries.
But in recent years, Subway has been losing sales to fast-growing rivals like Jersey Mike's and Firehouse Subs. The company tried to catch up. In 2022, it announced a line of chef-developed sandwiches after finding that customers were tiring of Subway's traditional model of letting customers build their own subs.
When Roark bought Subway, it said it planned to continue to modernize restaurants and expand internationally. It left in place Subway's CEO John Chidsey, who was the first nonfamily member to lead Subway when he joined the company in 2019. But Chidsey retired late last year.
Roark, which is known for its expertise in restaurant management, backs two holding companies that own multiple restaurant chains: Inspire Brands, the parent of Arby's, Dunkin', Jimmy John's, Sonic and Buffalo Wild Wings; and GoTo Foods, which owns Auntie Anne's, Carvel, Cinnabon and Jamba.
In June, Roark bought Dave's Hot Chicken in a deal valued at $ 1 billion.

Delhi-NCR-based real estate major DLF announced on July 25 that it has sold out all four towers launched under Phase 1 of its debut luxury project in Mumbai, 'The WestPark' in Andheri. (Representational Image)(File Photo ) In a regulatory filing on July 25, DLF said that the 416 units launched in the first phase of 'The Westpark' project were sold for ₹2,300 crore in less than a week. According to the company, the sellout highlights its strategic expansion into key regions across western India. On July 17, DLF, in partnership with Trident Realty, launched 416 apartments in four towers in the Andheri West area of Mumbai. The companies will invest nearly ₹900 crore to develop this luxury housing project. According to the company, the entire project is spread across 10 acres and will feature a mix of 3 BHK and larger apartments ranging from 1,125 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft. In the first phase, apartments are priced between ₹37,500 and ₹54,000 per sq ft. The development will also include 845 dedicated car parking spaces, along with separate visitor parking facilities. 'Our entry into Mumbai represents a significant strategic milestone for DLF. Mumbai has always been a key component of our national growth strategy, and with the launch of The Westpark, we are proud to offer a development that resonates with the aspirations of the city's discerning residents," said Aakash Ohri, Joint Managing Director and Chief Business Officer, DLF Home Developers Ltd. "We are both humbled and gratified by the overwhelming response, the inventory for Phase 1 of the project has been completely sold out, a remarkable outcome in a market typically characterised by gradual absorption. Initially, we launched only two of the four planned towers, but due to exceptional demand, we brought all four towers to market, resulting in the sellout of all 416 units," Ohri said. The company said that the development will comprise eight architecturally distinctive towers. The first phase will introduce four towers, each 37 storeys high and offering a total of 416 residences. The homes include a select mix of spacious 3—and 4-BHK residences ranging from 1,125 to 2,500 sq ft, along with a limited number of penthouses. According to the company, the project is designed by globally renowned architecture firm HB Design. With structural expertise from Thornton Tomasetti, interiors by BLINK, and landscaping by SHMA, it brings together international design sensibilities and a local context. The residences feature refined interior layouts, expansive decks, and full-height windows offering sweeping views, balancing privacy and openness, the company said in a statement. The company said that the projects' central feature is the 6,000 sq. metre (~1.46-acre) landscaped podium, the 'Eco Deck', which serves as the green heart of the development. The podium links all the towers and features lush gardens, panoramic views, and a signature 25-meter pool with a tropical leaf-patterned floor, the company said in the statement. It creates the ambience of a tropical forest in the heart of the city. Meet Akhil Patel, Indian-Origin Entrepreneur Who Served Tea To PM Modi
Once a data analyst and now a full-time chai entrepreneur, Akhil Patel shot to the spotlight after he served a steaming cup of masala tea to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Thursday. The special moment occurred at Chequers, the country residence of Mr Starmer. PM Modi shared a couple of pictures of his interaction with Mr Patel on the X, writing, "Chai pe Charcha with Keir Starmer, brewing stronger India-UK ties." 'Chai Pe Charcha' with PM Keir Starmer at stronger India-UK ties! @Keir_Starmer — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) July 24, 2025 Who is Akhil Patel? A UK-based entrepreneur, Akhil Patel studied at the University College School, Hampstead, London, and then pursued a BSc in Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). During his college years, he took up various internship roles before working full-time as a data analyst for about a year and a half. In 2018, a trip to Ladakh changed everything for him. Mr Patel had grown up drinking tea, but on this trip, he saw the beverage not as a drink, but a ritual. And that's what laid the foundation for what would become Amala Chai. In 2019, inspired by his grandma's recipe, he founded Amala Chai. Described as "Chai That Feels Like Home," the brand's masala chai begins at the source, with single-origin tea and spices from family farms in Assam and Kerala. To ensure authenticity, Mr Patel returned to India and travelled through Assam and Kerala to meet farmers and build direct relationships with small-scale farms. His focus, he says, was to eliminate middlemen from the supply chain, pay fairly, invest in organic practices, and support a system that puts people and the planet first. In May, Akhil and his grandma were on the cover of the British Museum's Instagram page. He shared that his grandma, now 96, came to the UK 50 years ago to look for better opportunities. In London, where Mr Patel launched his venture six years ago, Amala Chai is now available at five different locations.

Multibagger small-cap stock hits upper circuit despite stock market crash; here's why
Eraaya Lifespaces share price was locked in the 2% upper circuit for the second consecutive session on Friday, driven by strong buying interest. The small-cap stock rose 2% to ₹ 50.67 apiece on the BSE. The latest gains in Eraaya Lifespaces shares comes after the company announced that its Indian subsidiary Ebix Technologies has won ₹ 140 crore-order from MSRTC. Ebix Technologies (formerly known as EbixCash), has secured a ₹ 140 crore contract with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for the first statewide rollout of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for concessionaires in India, Eraaya Lifespaces said in a release. The newly awarded NCMC program expands this partnership with a focus on smart, interoperable payments. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) spearheads this initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to enable passengers to use a single smartcard across multiple transport modes, creating a truly integrated mobility ecosystem, it added. Key highlights of the project include the mandatory adoption of the NCMC smartcard for all concessional passengers and pass holders on MSRTC buses. A minimum business assurance of 70 lakh NCMC cards sold in the first year alone, scaling to over 2 crore cards. It also includes facilities for card top-ups, use of advanced Aadhaar-based authentication APIs, and the expected transaction volumes exceeding ₹ 2,000 crore annually once fully operational. Ebix Technologies had earlier been awarded a contract on 30 November 2022 to supply and maintain 38,622 Android-based Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) integrated with an online reservation system. It has successfully facilitated the issuance of approximately 220 crore passenger tickets in the past two years. This network spans MSRTC's fleet of over 16,000 buses, serving more than 13 crore passengers monthly across urban and rural Maharashtra. Eraaya Lifespaces share price has gained 15% in one month and 8% in three months. The smallcap stock has declined 61% in six months and has dropped 56% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis. However, Eraaya Lifespaces share price has delivered multibagger returns of 3,890% in two years and a staggering 6,568% in five years.
