MOUs, agreement inked at Pak-UAE JMC in Abu Dhabi
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed memoranda of understanding on 'Mutual Exemption of Entry Visa Requirements' and 'Establishment of a Joint Task Force to Promote Investments' as well as an agreement on 'Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy'.
The 12th session of Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) was held in Abu Dhabi on 24 June 2025.
It was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Prior to the formal proceedings, a working group meeting of the JMC was held under the leadership of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa and Minister of State of the UAE Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.
The JMC reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations and agreed on concrete measures to strengthen cooperation in trade, banking, culture, investment, aviation, railways, energy, food security, climate change, defence, healthcare, manpower, higher education and information technology.
Both sides emphasised enhancing institutional mechanisms and promoting inter-ministerial coordination.
Held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and brotherhood, the session included exchanges on regional and global developments.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the region. A protocol, outlining procedural frameworks for follow-up actions, coordination through sectoral working groups and facilitation for reciprocal visits, was also signed.
In addition to the protocol of the session, both parties expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and agreed to hold the 13th Session of the JMC in Pakistan on mutually agreed dates.
The successful convening of the JMC session underscores the deep-rooted and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and the UAE and their shared vision for a dynamic and progressive partnership.

He claimed that the Indian aircraft were under orders not to attack Pakistan military assets, to avoid an escalation. Earlier, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan confirmed the loss fighter jets during the May clashes with Pakistan, marking the first official acknowledgment of air losses in the ongoing conflict. He disclosed the information in an interview with Bloomberg Television, during the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. However, he denied Pakistan's tally of six Indian jets being shot down, choosing not to specify the exact number of aircraft lost. "What is important is not the jet being down, but why they were being down," Chauhan said. "Numbers are not important." On May 30, Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy admitted that Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft. However, the military circles of India are always tight-lipped about the numbers of fighter jets loss by PAF.

Diplomatic change sweeps capital
Pakistan is witnessing a notable shift in its diplomatic landscape as several foreign envoys prepare to depart, having completed their tenures or exited due to political changes back home. The wave of departures includes seasoned ambassadors, career diplomats, and a few whose exits were unexpected. Among the most distinguished is Hungarian Ambassador Bela Fazekas, who holds a rare place in diplomatic history for serving two separate terms in Pakistan. First posted in 2007, Fazekas returned years later for a second stint — an unusual reappointment in international diplomacy. His familiarity with Pakistan's political and cultural fabric enabled him to deepen bilateral ties in trade, education, and cultural exchange. Fazekas joins a select group of diplomats to have served twice in the same country. A similar precedent was set by Aybek Osmanov, former Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, who also held the position in two separate terms. Such cases remain rare, as most ambassadors are rotated after completing a single tenure. USF approves Rs7.49b for high-speed internet, 4G expansion

Photo: Listen to article The Universal Service Fund (USF) Board of Directors has approved seven major telecommunications projects worth Rs7.49 billion to improve high-speed internet and mobile connectivity for nearly 960,000 people across 347 locations in 10 districts of Pakistan. The announcement was made during the USF Board's 98th meeting, chaired by Zarar Hasham Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, held at USF headquarters on Sunday, Radio Pakistan reported. Among the approved initiatives are two large-scale Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) projects aimed at providing high-speed fixed broadband to approximately 2.8 million people in the Sanghar and Jhang districts. These projects will involve the deployment of 940 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure, linking 113 towns and union councils. 'The Fund is not only launching new projects but also closely monitoring the timely completion of existing initiatives,' said Zarar Hasham Khan. 'Under the guidance of Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the USF is reshaping Pakistan's digital ecosystem.' Five other projects, with a combined value exceeding Rs1.83 billion, will bring 4G mobile broadband services to nearly 1,000 villages and settlements in Attock, Khushab, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Chiniot, Badin, and Abbottabad. The projects are part of a wider effort to accelerate digital inclusion and stimulate economic activity through improved internet connectivity across Pakistan.
