Moynat opens second Paris boutique on Avenue Montaigne

Fashion Network03-07-2025
Last weekend, Avenue Montaigne was the scene of an unexpected event. Moynat has just opened a new boutique at number 34 on the prestigious Parisian thoroughfare, and for its inauguration at the height of Paris Fashion Week, the French leather goods house set up an ice cream parlor and a vintage car loaded with old trunks on the thoroughfare.
This forty-square-meter space, previously occupied by Jimmy Choo, joins its flagship store at 348 rue Saint-Honoré and corners at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche and Galeries Lafayette. In all, Moynat has 28 boutiques, a figure that rises to 32 when shops-in-shops in department stores are taken into account.
In this intimate setting, the brand hopes to appeal to local customers, offering them a highly personalized experience. An illustrator is on hand at the trunk-shaped counter at the entrance, ready to customize a bag by painting initials or other decorations, such as retro luggage tags in the form of postcard landscapes.
The store is fitted out in light wood with leather-covered shelves. Opposite the window is an installation by London artist Michael Samuels, assembling various archive trunks and suitcases.
For this inauguration, Moynat is launching a capsule collection of limited-edition tote bags from its "M" collection, made in the house's signature brown canvas. They are sold exclusively in this store at 2,250 euros each. For the occasion, two new bag models are also previewed on site: the Pauline clutch and the Moon bag.
Distributed exclusively through its own sales network, the historic trunk-maker founded in 1849, acquired in 2010 by the holding company of the Arnault family, owners of LVMH, is present in some ten countries around the world, with a significant tourist clientele from the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. The label has been led since 2020 by managing director Lisa Attia, while products have been designed for the past three years by "a collaborative in-house studio".
Today, Moynat creates handbags, accessories, and travel items ranging from 750 euros for a clutch to 8,200 euros for alligator creations. Most of the bags can be recognized by the famous M canvas made from a cotton and linen blend, and by their high quality, being manufactured in France and Italy. Some models are also made from rare, precious skins, with prices ranging from 45,000 to 58,000 euros.
In recent years, Moynat has expanded while maintaining a niche profile. "It's a brand that's growing well, but remains confidential, with limited distribution and relying on an ultra-faithful clientele," said a spokesperson for the discreet house.

LVMH shares rise after mixed bag results with 'glimmers of hope'

Shares in French luxury group LVMH rose on Friday after the group reported quarterly results, with analysts pointing to hopes on the horizon as the group said it saw some signs of recovery in the key Chinese market. LVMH's quarterly sales for products like Louis Vuitton handbags, Dior dresses and Moet & Chandon champagne came in slightly below expectations, at 19.5 billion euros (22.88 billion dollars), down 4% year-on-year, with a 9% sales drop at the group's core leather and fashion division. After an initial dip at market open as investors grappled to get a reading of what Citi analysts called a "mixed bag" of results, LVMH shares steadily reversed course, trading 3.5% up midday and lifting sector peers Kering and Hermes. HSBC analysts said in a note that higher-than-expected profit margins were a sign the group has become more pragmatic and efficient under the leadership of CFO Cecile Cabanis, who was appointed at the end of 2024. Deutsche Bank analyst Adam Cochrane said that while the second-quarter results were not "stellar", there were some "glimmers of hope". "Investors have been waiting for an opportunity to revisit this stock and the conference call highlighted a number of factors which may encourage a tangible recovery in China, market share gains in key brands and potential for structural efficiencies as well as ongoing tight cost management", he wrote in a note. LVMH's finance chief on Thursday said the company saw some "tangible improvement" In China, where a real estate crisis has dampened appetite for luxury goods. French luxury heavyweights have been facing a prolonged downturn as brands also face the threat of U.S. import tariffs.

Can this ‘Air Scooter' cross the English Channel safely?

Imagine riding a scooter to your friend's house for a barbecue – not on the road but in the air. A French aviation start-up wants to make that a reality with an aircraft resembling a gigantic scooter. 'Air Scooter' is an ultralight aircraft pre-programmed to fly a route. Thanks to the computers doing a lot of the heavy lifting, the pilot's input is much less important than in a traditional helicopter. "It's a kind of flying robot,' Franky Zapata, the CEO of Zapata, said. 'When you are inside, you just ask the machine to go somewhere. You feel like the pilot. But the machine only executes what the computer wants, so it's extremely easy," Zapata added. Zapata says the hybrid vertical take-off aircraft is easier to fly and cheaper to learn, compared to traditional aircraft. The company says it hopes to democratise air travel. "You need to be skilled to pilot an aeroplane. You need to be skilled to pilot a helicopter. And it's very expensive to become a pilot. The machines are expensive," Zapata said. Fly over the English Channel The French pilot and inventor will attempt to cross the English Channel between France and England in a stunt designed to serve as a proof of concept for his Air Scooter on Friday. He will take off from Calais, France, and will cross the Channel and plans to arrive at St Margaret's Bay, close to Dover, in the UK. He has told the media that there's no parachute to use during this trip in case he has to bail out in an emergency. Zapata has already made a crossing, in 2019, on another of his machines, called the Flyboard Air. The flying hoverboard successfully surfed the sky on the second attempt, a week after his first bid failed halfway through. He completed a 36-kilometre journey in 22 minutes, reaching a top speed of 202 kilometres per hour during the crossing. Zapata admits the flying hoverboard required lots of skill to operate, and the Air Scooter is a much easier vertical takeoff hybrid aircraft. 'What is very different compared to the Flyboard Air is the fact that this machine is able to be piloted by everybody. It's not something so technical or so hard, so dangerous as the Flyboard". Vestiaire Collective's US chief adds company-wide marketing role to her remit

French luxury resale giant Vestiaire Collective has named its US CEO Virk as its chief marketing officer with the new role set to run alongside her existing US leadership post. In the dual role she'll oversee global brand and creative, social media, PR, and influence, while also leading the US business. This includes leading the commercial, merchandising, and consignment strategies from her base in New York City. The e-tailer called it a "milestone appointment [that's] especially significant given Samina's deep roots with the company. In 2015, she led the company's entry into the US market as its first US president, laying the foundation for what would become a pivotal region for the Paris-founded platform". And since rejoining in February 2023, she's "played a key role in driving substantial momentum in the US", transforming it into Vestiaire Collective's "largest and most dynamic" single market, now accounting for 20% of the business. Co-founder and president Fanny Moizant said the CMO appointment and her ongoing US leadership "reflects our ambition to continue accelerating brand awareness and growth, especially in the US market. It is a testament to her deep understanding of the business, her marketing expertise, and her ability to drive meaningful results. Samina brings creative vision and strategic rigour. Her unique position empowers her to grow both our brand and our community in the US and around the world". Her track record is certainly impressive. Apart from the time already spent with the company, her career includes senior roles at Target and eBay, and she held the positions of CMO and US president at Threads Styling before rejoining Vestiaire Collective.
