Former English footballer David Beckham is on the mend after undergoing surgery to correct a long-standing wrist injury—just weeks after being named in King Charles III's Birthday Honours list. The 50-year-old, now officially set to be knighted for his services to football and charity, was photographed in a hospital gown with his arm in a sling on Friday. Victoria Beckham shared David Beckham's photo after his surgery
The image, shared by his wife Victoria Beckham on her Instagram Stories, showed the Inter Miami CF co-owner smiling from a hospital bed despite the fresh surgery. 'Get well soon daddy,' she wrote alongside a heart emoji. David Beckham suffered an injury during a friendly match against South Africa in 2003
According to report in People magazine, David's procedure was to finally address complications from a 2003 match injury, when he broke his wrist playing for England against South Africa. A dissolvable screw inserted during earlier treatment reportedly failed to dissolve properly over time, causing discomfort that worsened in recent months.
Victoria later shared another photo, this time of David at home, holding a handmade beaded bracelet reading 'Get well soon'—a likely gift from one of their four children, adding a sweet family touch to the recovery.
This brief hospital stay comes during an otherwise celebratory chapter in David's life. Earlier this month, it was officially announced that he would receive a knighthood, with the football icon set to become Sir David Beckham. The honour, long speculated, was met with overwhelming joy by David and his family. He reportedly took his mother Sandra out for lunch after the announcement, where she got emotional over the recognition.
On the professional front, David continues to juggle his business empire, including the soaring popularity of his Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami. The team—boosted by the global spotlight surrounding Lionel Messi—is preparing for its new $1 billion stadium, Miami Freedom Park, expected to open in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite whispers of past family tensions—especially involving their son Brooklyn and daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz—the Beckhams appear united, with recent Father's Day posts including heartfelt tributes from all of their children.

Why Archer's addition in ENG's playing 11 could prove troublesome for IND?

After more than four years away from red-ball cricket, the marquee English pacer Jofra Archer is back in England's Test squad, and the timing could hardly be more ominous for India, who are eyeing a fightback at Edgbaston after going 0–1 down in Leeds. Recalled ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston, Archer's inclusion marks a potentially decisive turning point in the series. Although some voices in English cricket have cautioned against rushing the pacer back, England's selectors are clearly willing to take the risk, hoping his raw pace and match-winning ability can exploit an Indian batting order still reeling from the collapse at Headingley. Archer's return, coming just days after he bowled 18 overs for Sussex against Durham, could give England a psychological and tactical edge, especially if paired with the in-form Brydon Carse and seasoned campaigners like Chris Woakes or Josh Tongue. England taking a calculated risk The 30-year-old Archer has been fast-tracked back into the squad after delivering a decent performance for Sussex in the County Championship. Despite a significant layoff due to five surgeries over three years, England believe he is fit enough to return. The decision, however, hasn't come without concerns. Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace, who has worked closely with Archer during his rehab, felt the more prudent choice would have been to wait until the third Test. He said Archer should ideally be eased into the side and that there was no need to disrupt a winning combination. Selection dilemma despite winning start Archer is the only addition to the squad that pulled off a stirring win at Headingley, and his inclusion has created a selection conundrum. England are unlikely to alter their settled batting unit, which means one of the bowlers could make way. While Chris Woakes has only taken one wicket, he enjoys the advantage of local knowledge at Edgbaston. Josh Tongue, who helped dismantle India's lower order in both innings of the first Test, may be the likelier omission. In such a tight series, every selection could tip the balance, and England know they are gambling with team chemistry. Why India should be worried about Archer's return? For India, Archer's return adds a fresh layer of concern. His high-speed spells and subtle variations are tailor-made for English conditions, and his ability to extract bounce even from docile pitches makes him a lethal threat. While Archer has only played two Tests against India and 13 Tests overall, his performances with the white ball and his renewed determination towards red-ball cricket make him a far greater threat to an under-pressure Indian team, who are looking to stage a fighting comeback after the loss in the first Test. Experts like Michael Vaughan and Steve Harmison have praised the rare modern pacer who genuinely craves Test cricket despite repeated injuries. A return with timing and intent While former players like Mike Atherton have warned against disrupting a settled side, they also acknowledge that England might see this as the right moment to strike with maximum firepower. Archer's return — even if just symbolic at Edgbaston — signals England's intent to dominate. For India, the challenge just got tougher — and with Archer potentially peaking at Lord's, this gamble could snowball into a defining moment in the series.

Summer has officially arrived, and so has Brad Pitt, making a high-octane return with his much-anticipated film F1: The Movie, which opened to impressive numbers across Indian theatres. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned approximately Rs 5.25 crore net on its first day (Friday), across all languages. The English 2D version posted an overall occupancy of 27.82% on its opening day. The film began modestly with 13.93% occupancy during the morning shows, gained momentum to reach 27.14% in the afternoon, rose further to 28.35% in the evening, and peaked at 41.84% during the night shows. Regionally, Chennai led with a strong 43% occupancy, followed closely by Hyderabad at 40.75% and Kochi at 31.75%. Surprisingly, key metropolitan markets like Mumbai and Delhi lagged behind, recording only 22.25% and 20.5% occupancy, respectively. Among the premium formats, English 4DX registered the highest occupancy across all languages and formats at 68%, followed by English IMAX at 58.57%, and English ICE at 39.94%. However, Pitt's latest outing did outperform other recent major Hollywood releases in India. It beat Karate Kid Legends, starring Jackie Chan, which opened with Rs 1.75 crore, and his own previous film Bullet Train, which collected Rs 0.45 crore on its first day. The film features Brad Pitt as a veteran race-car driver who returns to Formula One after three decades to revive a struggling team and save his former teammate's legacy. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, best known for the global blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, F1 has already surpassed Top Gun: Maverick's Indian opening day numbers, which stood at Rs 4.89 crore. With largely positive reviews and soaring audience interest, all eyes are now on how F1: The Movie performs in the coming days. However, its box office run will be tested by competition from regional releases such as Sitaare Zameen Par, Maa, and Kannappa.
