Ozzy Osbourne's funeral plans following death as he 'made feelings clear'

Daily Record5 days ago
Ozzy Osbourne's funeral plans haven't yet been shared, but the Black Sabbath frontman made it clear how he wanted his send-off to go in interviews before his death.
Details surrounding Ozzy Osbourne 's death have not as of yet fully been disclosed. His family made the heartbreaking announcement on Tuesday, July 22, that the heavy metal legend had passed away at the age of 76.

However prior to his death, the Black Sabbath frontman expressed his funeral wishes and laid bare his expectations in the event of his passing. He cautioned his family and friends that he "definitely don't want a f**king happy song" played during any commemoration.

The 76-year-old's death was announced on Tuesday night, just weeks after his reunion gig with his former bandmates in their hometown of Birmingham. Although funeral details are yet to be announced, Ozzy has opened up on numerous occasions about his wishes.

Ozzy, father to six kids, said back in 2011 that he wanted the service to be a celebration of his life rather than it being a mournful event, according to reports in the Mirror.
"There'll be no harping on the bad times," Ozzy stated in a chat with The Times. "It's worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives, so by any measure, most of us in this country - especially rock stars like me - are very lucky. That's why I don't want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say 'thanks'."

Known for his sense of humour, the singer also mentioned that he didn't want his funeral to be a "mope-fest" and confessed he wasn't bothered about what music was played during his final farewell.
"I honestly don't care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes 'em happy," Ozzy quipped.
In another interview in 2016, Ozzy disclosed that he did have some preferences, noting he would like A Day In The Life by the Fab Four playing at his funeral.

"I really need a few more years to think this over, but probably something from 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver," Ozzy told NME. "I definitely don't want my f**king greatest hits album - I never ever play that thing, I'm f**king embarrassed about it. And I definitely don't want a f**king happy song - I'm dead."
Ozzy's death was confirmed by his family in a heartbreaking statement, as they informed the world: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time".
Earlier this month, Ozzy said goodbye to supporters with a Black Sabbath reunion, telling thousands of heavy metal fans at Birmingham's Villa Park that it was "so good to be on this stage" as he delivered his final performance from a large black throne.
Ozzy's passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from around the globe. Sir Elton John hailed Ozzy Osbourne as a "huge trailblazer" who "secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods".

He was joined by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and other celebs in honouring the Black Sabbath frontman following his death on Tuesday. Sir Elton shared on Instagram: "So sad to hear the news of Ozzy Osbourne passing away.
"He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods – a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love. Elton xx."
Yungblud, who performed Black Sabbath's Changes at the Back To The Beginning farewell concert, expressed being "heartbroken" over the loss, dubbing Ozzy "the greatest of all time".
"I didn't think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room," he penned in a tribute on social media.

The Wanted star Tom Parker's widow sadly announced her third child was born stillborn last month. ‌ She shares her child with her partner Will Lindsay, and broke the devastating news on social media as she revealed they had a little boy named Phoenix. Since then, Kelsey has taken time away from social media and a break away from her day-to-day life. ‌ Marking her return to Instagram, Kelsey shared a family photo with Will and her two children with Tom, Aurelia, six, and Bodhi, four. They soaked up the sun in a hot location as they looked out at a stunning view together. ‌ The podcaster chose not to share where they have decided to take a break to, but said: "Exactly what we needed. Thank you @jet2 for making it so easy. X." Just last month, Kelsey shared the heartbreaking news of her son on her account. Her devastating tribute to her son included one simple heartbreaking caption: 'Phoenix Parker-Lindsay, you will forever be loved." ‌ She added a moving poem, entitled For Phoenix, Born Sleeping, Forever Loved. The poem read: 'The world grew quiet as you arrived, So loved, so longed for, yet not alive. Our precious boy, our angel light, Born with wings, took silent flight. 'We named you Phoenix, brave and bright. A soul of love, of warmth and light. Though we never heard you cry, You'll live in hearts that won't ask why. No breath you drew, no eyes to see, Still, you mean everything to me. You'll journey with us, softly near, In every sigh, in every tear.' Kelsey was flooded with support from her followers as well as celebrity pals, which she preempted with a message. In her post, she wrote: "Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt wishes, I wanted to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. ‌ "But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space. Love always, Kelsey, Will, and the Parker Family." Kelsey shares children Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four, with The Wanted star Tom Parker, who tragically died from brain cancer in 2022 at the age of 33, four years after they married. She had opened up to the Mirror in January about her excitement at welcoming a third child into the family home which she now shares with tree surgeon Will, after finding love again last September. ‌ Confessing that the baby, which would have been Will's first child, was a "happy accident", Kelsey said she was gently preparing Aurelia and Bodhi for a new sibling. Will also told us: "I'm over the moon. This is something I've wanted for a long time. I couldn't be happier and I know Kelsey is going to be an amazing mum, as she already is." Ozzy Osbourne's Black Sabbath bassist recalls final gig and admits the late rocker was 'frail' and 'needed assistance' during rehearsals

's bassist has recalled Black Sabbath's final gig and admits the late rocker 'needed assistance' during rehearsals. The beloved musician, famously known as the Prince of Darkness, died on Tuesday at the age of 76 - just weeks after performing his final show with the band. Ozzy was reportedly warned by insurers that they wouldn't cover the concert if he insisted on standing to bid farewell to his devoted fans. But his wife Sharon managed to sort something with providers to ensure his last concert went ahead. Despite Ozzy not being in the best state of health, Black Sabbath continued to rehearse and after a few weeks they were ready to greet their adoring fans and give them a show to remember. Bandmate Geezer Butler has since spoken out about his passing, revealing how Ozzy was in his final moments. He told The Times: 'I knew he wasn't in good health, but I wasn't prepared to see how frail he was. 'He was helped into the rehearsal room by two helpers and a nurse and was using a cane - being Ozzy, the cane was black and studded with gold and precious stones.' Geezer went on to share the one thing he wished he had done before he passed. He added: 'I wish I'd had more time backstage with Ozzy, but wishes are redundant now. As Ozzy used to say: "Wish in one hand and s**t in the other and see which comes first."' Ozzy took to the stage for his farewell concert at Villa Park Stadium in his native Birmingham less than three weeks before his death. The rocker reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time since 2005 to bid an emotional farewell to his decades of performing live on stage. After selling out in minutes, over 42,000 fans packed into Villa Park for the aptly-titled Back to the Beginning show, which saw Ozzy and Black Sabbath return to their hometown - 56 years after they formed there. Geezer said it was a 'privilege' to have spent the past 56 years of friendship with Ozzy and it's been 'one hell of a ride'. His final words on stage were: 'It's the last song ever. Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.' A message on screen then read: 'Thank you for everything, you guys are f***ing amazing. Birmingham Forever,' before the sky lit up with fireworks. On Wednesday, MailOnline revealed that an air ambulance was called to Osbourne's multi-million-pound country home as paramedics battled to save his life. The Thames Valley air ambulance landed in a field close to Welders House, the singer's Grade II listed mansion on Tuesday morning at around 10.30am. It's believed that calls from Welders House had led call handlers to believe that the Black Sabbath singer's life was in the balance.
