Al-Madina FC claimed a 2-1 win over Al-Ittihad in Friday's Libyan Premier League match at Al-Nahr Stadium in the capital Tripoli, with a dramatic stoppage-time goal settling the contest.
The home side took the lead five minutes before halftime when John Otto found the net to give Al-Madina a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Al-Ittihad thought they had equalised early in the second half, but Moaz Issa's 51st-minute effort was ruled out by the referee. The visitors then squandered a chance to level the score when Mahmoud Kahraba missed from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
Al-Ittihad were given another opportunity from the spot nine minutes later, with Noufal Al-Zarhouni making no mistake to make it 1-1.
Just as the match seemed headed for a draw, Al-Madina defender Naji Dra scored with a header in the 95th minute to snatch all three points for the hosts.

Al-Ittihad slams LFF decision, takes case to sports court

BY Libyan Express Jun 28, 2025 - 07:40 Updated: Jun 28, 2025 - 07:44 Al-Ittihad takes legal action after derby result overturned Al-Ittihad Football Club announced on Friday evening that it will lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the Libyan Football Federation's (LFF) decision to annul the result of their match against Al-Ahly Tripoli. In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the club described the ruling as 'unjust'. The move follows the LFF's decision to cancel the result of the capital derby between Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Ittihad, held during the first round of the Libyan Premier League championship play-offs. The match had not been completed. In a video statement shared via the Federation's official Facebook page, the LFF's Vice President, Fawzi Ajouda, announced a three-match suspension for Al-Ahly Tripoli player Hamdou Elhouni, due to an off-the-ball assault on an opposing player. Al-Ittihad's Sobhi Al-Mabrouk was also handed a three-match ban, based on the match commissioner's report. As of Friday evening, Al-Ahly Tripoli's management had not issued any official comment on the Federation's decisions. The match featured several shifts in momentum, with Al-Ahly holding a 43-38 lead at half-time. Petro de Luanda began the game with strong intensity, but Al-Ahly responded effectively to close the first quarter ahead 33-22. Although Petro narrowed the gap during the second quarter, they were unable to overturn the deficit before the break. In the second half, Al-Ahly Tripoli maintained their composure, managing Petro's attempts to mount a comeback and safeguarding their lead. The Libyan side ultimately secured a well-deserved victory, capturing the club's first-ever BAL championship. Launched in 2020 as a joint venture between the NBA and FIBA, the Basketball Africa League is Africa's premier professional basketball competition. The league brings together the continent's top clubs each year to raise the sport's profile and nurture emerging talent across Africa. Al-Ahly Tripoli's triumph marks a landmark moment for Libyan basketball, as they become the first club from the country to win the BAL. The victory not only elevates Libya's standing in continental basketball but also highlights the growing competitiveness within the region.
