"Money Can't Buy Class": Jeff Bezos' Wedding Invite Roasted Online

NDTV26-06-2025
The wedding festivities for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former news anchor Lauren Sanchez have already begun in Venice, but the couple has found itself at the centre of an unexpected criticism - their wedding invitation.
A glimpse of the invite, obtained by ABC News, has triggered a wave of ridicule online. The couple, together for six years, will exchange vows in a multi-day celebration said to include an official ceremony on the picturesque island of San Giorgio Maggiore on Friday, June 27.
Far from the elegance expected of a billionaire's wedding, the invitation's design - a collage of butterflies, birds, feathers, and shooting stars in shades of pink and blue, set against a stark white background - has been branded "atrocious" and "ugly" by social media users.
The card included a message requesting guests not to bring gifts. It read, "We are excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts."
Instead, the invite said the couple would make charitable contributions on behalf of attendees. "Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city's irreplaceable cultural heritage, to CORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice's future, and to Venice."
"This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories. Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come," the invitation added.
While the intention appeared thoughtful, the visual presentation left many unimpressed.
People on X (formerly Twitter) quickly began mocking the invite.
One user joked, "Was the invitation made in Microsoft Paint?"

Another remarked bluntly, "That invite is atrocious. Obviously, money can't buy taste or class."
That invite is atrocious. Onviously, money can't buy taste or class.

More scathing reactions followed.
"Wow, what an ugly announcement/invitation. With all the money he has they could have at least done something pretty and classy."
Wow what an ugly announcemen/invitation. With all the money he has they could have at least done something pretty and classy. But I guess taking into consideration what she has done to herself with all plastic surgery, botox, fillers, etc.... I'm guessing that just isn't…

"This invitation looks like an 11-year-old made it," wrote another user

Despite the backlash, anticipation for the high-profile event remains sky-high. While initial reports suggested the wedding festivities would run from June 24 to 26, The Independent reported the actual timeline appears to be later in the week. Italian authorities have only confirmed that the ceremony will be held in late June.
Multiple reports say the lavish affair will span three days, with Bezos's luxurious superyacht Koru moored in Venice's harbour, playing a central role in the celebrations.

Lauren Sánchez's dress goes missing just days after tying the knot with Jeff Bezos!

Just days after exchanging vows with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in a three-day extravaganza in Venice, Lauren Sánchez is making headlines again—but this time, it's not about her breathtaking couture looks. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to reports, one of her 27 designer dresses has mysteriously gone missing, prompting whispers of an unexpected wardrobe heist amid one of the world's most lavish weddings. The couple tied the knot on Friday, June 27, in a private chapel on the island of San Giorgio, surrounded by high-profile guests and layers of security. Sánchez, a former journalist and media personality, turned the long weekend into a fashion spectacle, donning a carousel of couture gowns from Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, and Schiaparelli. But as the celebrations ended and the couple departed Venice for their honeymoon in Sicily, one of Sánchez's meticulously curated dresses never made it back. What happened to the dress? Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera was first to report the mystery, suggesting the missing dress may have been stolen by an unknown woman who allegedly gatecrashed the event. Described as 'elegantly dressed,' the woman reportedly bypassed security and mingled with guests before being removed. Security was reportedly so overwhelmed by unexpected arrivals that Italy's anti-terrorism unit, Digos, was called in to reinforce control on the island during the ceremony. While sources close to the couple confirm that a dress has indeed gone missing, they deny that it was stolen or that any formal police report has been filed. The dress was believed to be stored at the ultra-exclusive Aman Hotel, where Sánchez and Bezos were staying—suggesting it disappeared sometime during or after the festivities. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now For now, those involved are hopeful it will 'turn up,' as no legal complaint has been made. Wedding of the century Sánchez's wedding wardrobe was nothing short of cinematic. Her main gown—a high-neck mermaid dress by Dolce & Gabbana was inspired by Sophia Loren's bridal look in the 1958 film Houseboat . The dress featured hand-appliquéd Italian lace and 180 silk chiffon-covered buttons, paired with a delicate tulle-and-lace veil. 'It went from 'I want a sexy, modern dress' to 'I want something that evokes a moment,'' she told Vogue . 'It's a departure from what people expect, but it's very much me.' And that was just the beginning. For the rehearsal dinner, she dazzled in a gold Schiaparelli gown adorned with hand-embroidered green flowers. For the wedding dinner, she switched to a Rita Hayworth-inspired Dolce & Gabbana gown. The night ended with Sánchez wearing an Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress featuring 175,000 hand-sewn crystals and 600 yards of chain, shimmering into the early morning hours. Source: X Glamour, chaos, and a missing gown Though representatives have played down the incident, Corriere della Sera also claimed that a vintage Dolce & Gabbana dress, possibly worn by Sánchez or guest Ivanka Trump, was torn and caught fire at one of the post-wedding parties. Those claims have been denied. The wedding itself, said to have cost between €40 million and €48 million, was packed with themed events: pajama parties, foam parties, elegant dinners, and even a Gatsby-themed soirée. Yet amid all the opulence, it's the mystery of the missing gown that's become the most unexpected twist in a weekend defined by luxury. For now, Sánchez and Bezos are continuing their honeymoon in Taormina, but the fashion world remains curious: Where did the dress go? And will it ever resurface? One thing is certain: when the bride packs nearly 30 couture looks for a wedding, losing even one feels like a plot point straight out of a movie.
