Radio hosts reveal what REALLY happened when their interview with Keith Urban was cut short after X-rated Nicole Kidman question

Daily Mail02-07-2025
The radio hosts on the receiving end of Keith Urban 's abrupt interview exit have come clean about the awkward exchange.
Urban, 57, seemingly 'hung up' on Mix 102.3's Hayley Pearson and Max Burford on Tuesday, after Burford asked an off-colour question about the rocker's wife Nicole Kidman, 58.
The rocker was in good spirits as he chatted to the hosts about his upcoming tour, revealing that it's 'always a good time' performing in Adelaide, where the radio show is based.
Things went south after Urban agreed to play the show's signature game Wall of Truth, with Burford asking a question about his wife's love scenes on screen, which saw him promptly leave the Zoom call.
'I watched a movie with her and Zac Efron recently, A Family Affair, and I thought, 'what does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes on TV?' Burford asked, which was met with complete silence.

Quickly realising Urban was no longer on the line, Pearson said: 'He hates us. I knew that was going to happen.'
However, the radio duo came clean about the awkward exchange to listeners on Wednesday.
They even enlisted the help of Mix 102.3's content director, Stephen Werner, to clear the air.
He said that, rather than Urban being offended by the awkward line of questioning, the interview had simply run its course.
'The producers were getting texts, and you guys were having such a great time that you ran out of time,' he said, adding that the singer went straight to another interview.
Surprised by the revelation, Pearson asked: 'Hang on, so are you telling us this has made international news, and it's not even a story because he didn't hang up on us?
'Are you saying that Keith doesn't hate us?'
The content director replied that it was unlikely that Urban had a hateful bone in his body.
'Well, I haven't spoken to him, but I don't think Keith hates anybody, really. He seems like a pretty nice guy,' he said.
Burford quipped: 'So it's just the entire internet that hates us, not Keith.'
The radio duo's admission comes as an Urban insider revealed to People that the apparent communication breakdown had been blown out of proportion.
'Keith did not hang up, period,' the source said.
'He doesn't host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.'
The film in question, A Family Affair proved not to be a hit with critics, with claims later emerging that Urban was 'secretly' pleased about its poor reception.
An insider told New Idea that it didn't sit right with the country star, seeing his wife get cosy with Zac, after the pair last portrayed lovers 12 years ago in the buzzy crime drama The Paperboy.
'He absolutely trusts Nicole but it unnerved him seeing her get so cosy with Zac on screen a second time around,' the source said.
'She likely won't be doing a third, which, deep down, has made Keith happy to no end — something he's having to keep to himself of course!'
Urban and Kidman marked nearly two decades of marriage in June this year.
The lovebirds wed back in 2006 during a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel, in her hometown of Sydney.
They married five years after Kidman split from actor Tom Cruise, with whom she shares two adopted children, Isabella and Connor.
The happy couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.

Aboriginal public servant lashes out at Anthony Albanese in shocking foul-mouthed rant - but still manages to keep his job

An Aboriginal artist was able to keep his position on a taxpayer-funded board, despite labelling Anthony Albanese and Penny Wong 'genocidal c**ts' who should go and 'get f****d'. Fred Leone, an award-winning musician, Indigenous Butchulla Songman and founder of Impossible Odds Records, was appointed to the board of the Music Australia Council in August 2023 by Minister of the Arts, Tony Burke. Mr Leone, who was paid a salary of $24,540 for the role, has previously met Prince Harry when the former Royal was on a trip Down Under in 2022 with his wife Meghan. But Mr Leone has landed himself in hot water when he last week filmed himself unleashing on the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Burke, also Immigration Minister, after Albanese said he was waiting for the right moment to recognise Palestine as a state. 'You weak ass p**s dog, f**k you Anthony Albanese, f**k you. F**k Penny Wong,' ,' Mr Leone said in a self-recorded video posted on Instagram. 'F**k that weak ass Minister for Immigration, Tony Burke. You can all go get f****d. That's pathetic: "I'm waiting for the right moment to recognise Palestine" after, what, almost half a million people are dead? You f***king piece of s**t.' He further branded them as 'Zionist-siding dog(s)', before adding: 'When I see you at the f***ing airport don't even come near me c**t because I'll f***ing rip you in front of everybody.' His comments, first reported by The Australian, were in response to the Prime Minister saying last week that recognition of Palestine as a state had to come in circumstances where it would 'advance the objective of the creation of two states'. 'My entire political life, I've said I support two states, the right of Israel to exist within secure borders and the right of Palestinians to have their legitimate aspirations for their own state realised,' Albanese said on Wednesday. The Australian reported that Mr Leone has been allowed to keep his job on the taxpayer-funded board until his term expires at the end of August. Burke, who is also Minister for Home Affairs, Cyber Security and the Arts, said that Mr Leone's language escalated after he was told his position on the board would not be renewed. 'His (Leone's) language escalated as soon as he was told that he wasn't going to be reappointed to Music Australia,' Burke said.

Jo Whiley reveals the iconic star who left her feeling 'tiny and stupid' during an 'unpleasant' interview

Jo Whiley has opened up about the celebrity interview that left her feeling 'tiny and stupid'. Speaking on her Dig It podcast, Jo, 60, said that her confidence took a major knock after an interaction with Eminem and Dr Dre when asked if she had ever been starstruck during an interview. Jo said: 'I remember interviewing Eminem and Dr Dre one time and that was horrible. I'd interviewed Eminem when he was very young and he was very shy and polite. 'He kept calling me "ma'am" all the time and he was really, really sweet and humble. 'Then a couple of years later he came back on the show but with Dr Dre and the fame had happened and he was just this other creature altogether. 'They were just so playful with me - and can I just say they made me feel so tiny and so stupid.' While Jo thought that Eminem, now 52, was 'really sweet and humble' when she first interviewed him, she did not have such a pleasant experience when he was joined by Dr Dre Jo admitted that the interview was overall 'a really unpleasant experience' as she and her co-host Zoe Bell, 46, opened up about being starstruck by celebs. The revelation comes after Jo opened up about battling anxiety at the height of her DJing career in the 90s. She told Woman's Health: 'I remember doing one gig and I was just so scared, I thought I can't go on like this. This is ridiculous. 'It's ruining my life because I'm just such a ball of anxiety. 'But then I realised how happy it was making people when I do these gigs and that was a game changer.' Jo then took the opportunity to speak out against the culture of 'lad mags' - lifestyle magazines from the 90s and early noughties aimed at men and typically featuring a woman also in her underwear. The BBC presenter said: 'There was so much objectification and judgement of women and their bodies. 'It was a ludicrous time to be a woman, but I just kept my head down and weathered the storm.' Jo hasn't just candidly spoken about experiencing anxiety, she has also opened up about battling it during the menopause to Women's Health. Referencing Davina McCall's campaign to get women talking more about the menopause, she said she 'really lost' herself at the time. She said that the gym and fitness are ultimately what got her through that challenging time in her life. Jo said: 'I cried all the time. 'I mean, I cry a lot anyway but I cried all the time. 'I just felt very weak, and going to the gym and getting myself strong has played a really, really big part in helping me be the person I am today. It really saved me.'
