Sydney coach plots to spoil Dockers debut for Bolton
Ex-Richmond star Bolton will make his official debut for the Dockers on Sunday after recovering from a leg injury.
And while Bolton's preparation for the AFL premiership season has been curtailed, Cox is bracing to face his brilliant best.
"Like any of their dangerous players, he's one we have got to be aware of," Cox told reporters in Perth on Saturday.
"The thing with Shai, we have seen in his time at Richmond what he can do on a football field.
"He's a phenomenal talent and a huge addition to their football club.
"So we need to make sure we're aware of what he does - whether he's ahead of the ball or comes up around the stoppage ... he's very dangerous."
The Swans enter the fixture after consecutive home losses - a 20-point defeat to Hawthorn followed by a four-point loss to reigning premiers Brisbane - to open their season.
"We have played some pretty good footy just in patches against two good-quality opposition," Cox said.
"We want to make sure that we're building a brand of footy that we're playing consistently throughout the year.
"And we have shown throughout periods that we have done that - we just haven't done it long enough against the best teams, and Fremantle is another one of those."
The Dockers are seeking to rally after a 78-point hiding in Geelong a week ago, when coach Justin Longmuir labelled his team as not tough enough.
"Like any proud football organisation, they respond after a disappointing loss," Cox said.
"We expect them at their best, and what they do at their best is as good as anyone in the comp, so that is what we're preparing for."
Much attention will surround Sydney linchpin Chad Warner - the West Australian falls off-contract at season's end and is being heavily courted by Fremantle.
"We need Chad to play really good football for this football club in the short term and hopefully the long term as well," Cox said.
"I have constant chats with Chad all the way through, and one thing I can say is he's enjoying where the group is at, he loves his time at the footy club.
"It is a big decision, we all understand that. And he will make it like the mature young man that he is - time will tell."

Johnny Damon's daughter flips off TNA wrestlers during Slammiversary on Long Island
Someone must not have told Johnny Damon's daughter that professional wrestling isn't real, because the pugnacious youngster was quick to stand on business when she thought TNA wrestler Ryan Nemeth was going after her dad during a moment over the weekend at Slammiversary. The baseball legend was ringside for TNA Slammiversary, which was being held at UBS Arena out on Long Island, when part of the action came face-to-face with Damon. Nemeth was competing in a tag team match with his brother, Nic, when Damon shoved him after the two exchanged words, clearly as part of a bit for the show. Advertisement 4 Johnny Damon shoves TNA wrestler Ryan Nemeth. X @SeanRossSapp Nemeth tried to go back at Damon before his brother jumped in to grab him from getting to the ex-Red Sox great. Damon continued to yell at the wrestlers as they got back in the ring, and next to him, his daughter could be seen yelling at them and quickly flipping the bird at Nemeth before the camera cut back to the action inside the ring. X @SeanRossSapp It wasn't clear if the younger Damon was aware that it was all part of the showmanship of professional wrestling, but it made for a hilarious moment all the same. Damon had a pretty packed weekend, not only showing up for the show on Sunday, but he also took part in the TNA SLAMMing Softball Classic, which was played on Saturday out on Long Island. X @SeanRossSapp 4 Former professional baseball player Johnny Damon was seen walking along Madison Avenue in New York City. Rick Davis / The involvement of Damon shouldn't be too much of a surprise after A-GAME Beverages, which was founded by Damon, became the official hydration partner of TNA wrestling in an agreement announced last week. 'TNA executives are finalizing Damon's additional involvement at Slammiversary as he is a longtime pro wrestling fan who has appeared at and participated in past pro wrestling shows,' TNA said in a press release last week announcing the deal.

AFL superstar Bontempelli makes call on Bulldogs future
The Western Bulldogs have finalised a four-year deal that keeps superstar Marcus Bontempelli at the Whitten Oval until the end of the 2029 season. The highest-profile player in the AFL coming out-of-contract, the Dogs captain is going nowhere after signing a new four-year deal. "I've had a few different things happening - getting married in the off-season, opening a small coffee shop out in Kew - but ultimately it is no different to how I've dealt with other things in the past," Bontempelli said. "It's an important decision to spend the right amount of time. "This club means so much to me, it's hard to put it into a few words to be honest. "It is where I have grown as a man and spent all of my adult years coming here at 18. "When I think about the person I want to become it has been influenced by the people I have spent a lot of time with at the Western Bulldogs. "I owe so much from a footballing experience perspective but I think I really owe a lot of my maturing as a person and as a man to the football club. "For me, it's such a special place, the fans, the people that have supported me along the way. "I've never not felt supported by our people here at the club. "I feel incredibly lucky to have had that for so long." 👀 — Western Bulldogs (@westernbulldogs) July 22, 2025 Confirmation of the news comes a night after Bontempelli was named the club's second-greatest ever player, only behind the legendary Ted Whitten. Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge was excited about Bontempelli's future when asked about it last Wednesday: "I think we're getting close, but that's all I can really say." The 29-year-old has played 253 games for the Bulldogs after being taken with pick four in the 2013 draft. A tall, big-bodied midfielder, Bontempelli made his mark on the competition instantly. Bontempelli won the first of his six Charles Sutton medals as the Bulldogs' best-and-fairest in 2016, the season the club broke a 62-year premiership drought. The signing is a boost for the Bulldogs following two-straight defeats that has them sitting outside of the top-eight ahead of the final five weeks of the season.

Cowboys open camp down $15 million of talent as three CBs, LB start on PUP/NFI lists
The Cowboys are ready to kick off their 2025 training camp in Oxnard, Calif., but several key members of the new-look defense will be a little later to start than their teammates. Cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and Josh Butler will open camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, as will linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Rookie cornerback Shavon Revel, Jr. will start out on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. Todd Archer of ESPN reported the statuses of the quartet in a Monday morning post to X. None of the four announcements is a surprise. Diggs was shelved in late December, the result of a knee injury that he had played through for most of the 2024 season. He had surgery in January that included a tissue graft procedure, and he was never really expected to be cleared for practice by the beginning of this summer's camp. It's the second straight camp in which the 26-year-old has started out on PUP; last July, he was wrapping up a lengthy rehab, after an ACL tear in the same knee that had cost him most of the 2023 campaign. This time around, the former second-round draft pick has been doing much of his rehab away from the Cowboys facility and staff, a decision that will cost him half a million dollars due to a workout provision in his contract. There is speculation that this could be the final year for Diggs in Dallas, with the club possibly ready to cut ties with the highly-paid but often-injured DB. Diggs is set to cost $12 million against the Cowboys cap for 2025. Overshown is also dealing with a major knee injury. After missing his rookie season to a torn ACL, he suffered a devastating ACL/MCL/PCL tear in December that brought his stellar campaign to an early end. The ex-Texas linebacker wants to return to action in late 2025, however, and is reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehab. The 24-year-old has even declared himself a contender for the league's Comeback Player of the Year award. He checks in with a $1.5 million price tag for this season. Butler's ACL injury was another late-season blow for the Dallas defense, as the Michigan State product had been part of the club's fill-in plan for both Diggs and DaRon Bland. In just his fifth game appearance for the team, he went down on Thanksgiving Day and missed the remainder of the season. The ex-UFL star said on social media just last week that he was "ready for camp." Butler is making around the league minimum and is on the books for $960,000. Revel was the Cowboys' third-round draft pick back in April and will count $1.2 million against the cap this season. The East Carolina product had been thought to be a first-round talent before an ACL tear forced him to sit out most of his final year with the Pirates. Still, his skills are undeniable, and the 24-year-old taken with the 76th overall selection was considered one of the biggest steals of the draft. He is expected to be ready for play before Week 1, even if he won't be greenlit for the start of camp. Follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans!
