Netanyahu plans to issue military directives on Gaza war goals

"Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he will issue new directives to the military this week regarding the ongoing war in Gaza. In a statement Monday, Netanyahu said he will convene a meeting of the security cabinet to formally instruct the army on the objectives of the war, reaffirming his commitment to continue the military offensive on the besieged strip. 'We must continue fighting together to achieve the goals of the war,' Netanyahu claimed, outlining those goals as 'defeating the enemy, freeing the hostages, and ensuring Gaza never again poses a threat.'

House democrats push Trump to recognize Palestinian state: Axios reports

More than a dozen House Democrats have signed a letter urging the Trump administration to formally recognize a Palestinian state, with one lawmaker planning to introduce a resolution supporting Palestinian statehood, Axios reported on Sunday. The letter, spearheaded by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), reflects growing momentum among Democrats as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens. Lawmakers cite the scale of suffering, including reports of famine and forced starvation, as a driving factor behind the renewed calls for Palestinian self-determination. 'This tragic moment has highlighted for the world the long overdue need to recognize Palestinian self-determination,' reads the letter addressed to President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a copy obtained by Axios. Reps. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.), and Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) recently joined the initiative, alongside nine earlier signatories including Reps. Greg Casar, Lloyd Doggett, Veronica Escobar, Maxwell Frost, Al Green, Jared Huffman, Mark Pocan, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and André Carson, one of three Muslim members of Congress. The letter follows a similar call from French President Emmanuel Macron, who pledged to recognize a Palestinian state at an upcoming UN meeting in September. The US remains unlikely to shift its position under Trump, who has maintained a strong alliance with "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Axios. Khanna told Axios the response to his outreach had been 'overwhelming,' adding that recognition should come in alignment with the Arab League's newly passed two-state plan, which includes recognition of "Israel" as a Jewish democratic state. Rep. Watson Coleman said in a statement: 'If we're to see an end to war, famine, and the return of hostages, the recognition of a Palestinian state, contingent on the disarmament of Hamas and security guarantees for both Israel and Palestine, must be a part of that process.' The push marks a notable shift in congressional sentiment. Only five Democrats supported a similar resolution introduced in 2023 by Rep. Green affirming Palestine's right to exist. Now, the number has nearly tripled. Rep. Green told Axios he intends to reintroduce his resolution this session, pending staff consultations on the language. Lawmakers also hinted that more pro-Palestinian initiatives are expected in the weeks ahead.

Ambassador Al-Adayleh: The Humanitarian Tragedy in Gaza Demands Firm International Action - Jordan News

Ambassador Al-Adayleh: The Humanitarian Tragedy in Gaza Demands Firm International Action Jordan's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Amjad Al-Adayleh, affirmed that the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, now entering its 21st month, and the continued Israeli violations against civilians in both Gaza and the West Bank — including repeated infringements on the legal and religious status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and Hebron — represent a deep, bleeding wound in the conscience of humanity, one that demands a firm international response. اضافة اعلان Speaking at a session hosted Monday by the Arab League headquarters in honor of Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, Ambassador Al-Adayleh delivered the main speech on behalf of the Council of the Arab League, as Jordan currently presides over the council at the ministerial level. In his remarks, Al-Adayleh welcomed the Vietnamese president and highlighted Vietnam's historic struggle for national liberation as one of the most significant examples of human resistance and the will of people seeking freedom and independence. He emphasized that the international community must act decisively to stop the Israeli aggression, lift the siege on Gaza, end the genocide and starvation policies, and ensure unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, along with allowing UN agencies to operate freely and provide international protection for the Palestinian people. Ambassador Al-Adayleh, in the presence of Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Arab ambassadors, also referred to the Palestinian people's enduring struggle for more than eight decades, affirming their legitimate right to freedom, independence, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative — a right that Vietnam was among the first nations to recognize. Regarding Arab-Vietnamese cooperation, Al-Adayleh stressed that the Vietnamese president's visit to the Arab League marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation, and reflects the mutual commitment to enhancing coordination in international forums, upholding shared values in supporting justice, respecting sovereignty, and championing the aspirations of nations for freedom and dignity. — (Petra)
