YSRCP urges SP to follow HC orders allowing Tadipatri former MLA to visit his home

The Hindu2 days ago
A delegation of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders met Anantapur Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh and sought implementation of High Court orders which permitted former MLA Kethireddy Pedda Reddy to visit his residence in Tadipatri.
Led by Anantapur district president Ananta Venkatarami Reddy, Mr. Pedda Reddy and others, the delegation submitted a representation to the SP on Monday (June 30), a day after police forcibly shifted the former MLA to Anantapur from his residence in Tadipatri. Speaking after meeting the SP, Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said the YSRCP has taken up a program 'Recalling Chandrababu Manifesto' in every Assembly constituency to expose the failure of the NDA government to implement its pre-poll promises. 'We want to take up the programme in Tadipatri also and the police should allow us to do it,' he said.
Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said the government is resorting to vindictive politics and anarchy is prevailing in Tadipatri. 'If there are any restrictions on Mr. Pedda Reddy visiting Tadipatri, the police should give it in writing,' he demanded.
Mr. Pedda Reddy said the High Court has issued orders to provide necessary security for his visit to Tadipatri two months back but the same were not being implemented. 'Though Tadipatri Municipal chairperson Prabhakar Reddy is issuing warnings and making provocative statements and attacking my supporters, the police are not taking any action against the TDP leaders,' he said. Mr. Pedda Reddy further said that there used to be a peaceful atmosphere in Tadipatri while he was an MLA.

CM Naidu promises pensions, fast-tracked development; vows to complete Polavaram by 2027

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that timely pension distribution on the first of every month has created a festive atmosphere in villages, contrasting sharply with the previous YSRCP government, which he accused of looting pensions meant for the differently-abled and misusing funds under welfare schemes like Amma Vodi. He emphasised that his government ensures every mother gets support, regardless of number of children, with social security pensions raised to Rs 4,000, Rs 10,000 for dialysis patients, and Rs 15,000 for bedridden, backed by a Rs 2,750 crore monthly allocation—outpacing States like Telangana (Rs 8,000 crore per annum) and Kerala (Rs 7,200 crore). Addressing a gathering at Praja Vedika in Malakapalli of Kovvur segment during the Pedala Sevalo programme on Tuesday, he handed over a cobbler pension to Sanamandra Posh Babu, and a widow pension to Geddam Krishnadurga, engaging with their families to address their concerns. He highlighted innovations like automated widow pension, and provision for collecting three months' pension at once, noting that 1,20,461 beneficiaries haven't claimed pensions in two months, potentially saving Rs 98.19 crore, though the government prioritises delivery. Naidu announced grand plans for Godavari Pushkaralu. 'I've overseen Godavari Pushkaralu in the erstwhile united AP, and also in the bifurcated AP. This time, we will conduct Godavari Pushkaralu like never before,' he asserted.

HC hears X Corp's plea on content takedown notices, Centre defends officers' authority

Bengaluru: The High Court on Tuesday heard arguments in a case filed by X Corp India, the Indian arm of Elon Musk-owned social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), challenging the authority of government officials to issue content takedown notices under the Information Technology Act. 'X' Corp informed the court that it had recently received a notice from the Ministry of Railways seeking the removal of a video showing a woman driving a car on railway tracks in Hyderabad. Representing the company, Senior Advocate K G Raghavan argued against what he termed a misuse of official powers. 'What if every Tom, Dick and Harry officer sends me notices? See how this is being misused,' he said. Raghavan questioned whether such content qualified as unlawful, remarking, 'Some woman drove a car on railway tracks. Milords knows dog biting man is not news, but man biting dog is news.' Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Union of India, objected strongly to the language used, stating, 'They are officers, not Tom, Dick and Harry. They are statutory functionaries with legal authority. International entities should not display such arrogance'. Mehta emphasised that no social media platform should expect to operate without regulation, noting that intermediaries follow laws in other countries and should do the same in India. Justice M Nagaprasanna also expressed disapproval of the remarks, affirming the stature of Union government officers and stating, 'I take objection to this. They are officers of the Union of India.' 'X' Corp has sought a judicial declaration that Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act does not empower government officials to issue blocking orders, arguing that such orders must follow the procedure laid out in Section 69A of the Act, along with the relevant blocking rules. Additionally, the company has requested the court to prevent government ministries from taking coercive or adverse actions against it based on blocking orders not issued in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

HC expresses deep concern over Rachakonda police meddling in civil disputes

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court single bench of Justice Tadakamalla Vinod Kumar on Tuesday expressed deep concern and strongly disapproved action of the Rachakonda police for meddling in civil disputes and settling them in the Nagole police station itself in lieu of Rs.55 lakh. The judge was astonished to know from the counsel for petitioner Pamu Sudershanam that the Nagole police had confined him from morning to evening on June 19. The court while expressing shock at such an appalling action of the police, summoned Sudheer Babu, Rachakonda Commissioner and Nagole SHO to appear before it and explain reasons for the SHO in registering a crime against Sudershanam in a civil dispute, which is pending before a court since 2000. However, in adherence to court orders, Babu appeared before the judge 'through video conference'; the SHO appeared in person. Justice Vinod Kumar found fault with the police in interfering in a civil dispute… showing over indulgence in settling it in the station pertaining to a private property in plot 65, Krushi Nagar, Bandlaguda, despite the fact that three civil cases were in a court, apart from an injunction order in favour of the petitioner. The judge observed how the police can be so oblivious about court orders, showing scant regard… and show deep interest in solving a civil dispute. He observed that 'police stations in the State have became 'settlement addas'. This trend is at its peak, after the Telangana State was formed'. The Nagole SHO detained Sudershanam in PS and threatened him to settle the dispute pertaining to the property with S Janga Reddy, Thurpati Krishna and Thurpati Ramchander, who paid the SHO Rs. 55 lakh to ensure the dispute is settled in their favour. The petitioner was threatened with criminal cases by the police. The judge said the DGP should take action in enlightening the police officers in State on 'civil disputes'. Justice Vinod Kumar adjudicated the writ filed by Sudharshanam, who complained that the Nagole police indulged in settlement of civil disputes in PS pertaining to his plot in Nagole circle with real estate agents by paying Rs 55 lakh. Hearing in the case was adjourned to second week of July. Batch of six writ petitions seeking 'judicial probe' into Group-1 exam On Tuesday the High Court single bench of Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao heard the batch of six writ petitions filed by candidates who were not able to get a rank in the general ranking list of Group-1 Main exam seeking a direction to order a judicial probe into the entire selection process of candidates. Rachna, senior counsel for petitioners in one writ, contended that the Telangana Public Service Commission erred in issuing two different hall-tickets to the candidates. She said all the candidates who cleared the Preliminary Group 1 exam were issued only one hall-ticket, whereas the TGPSC vide its web note of October 9, 2024 had directed the successful candidates to download second fresh hall-ticket, in sheer violation of rules. She contended that the practice of issuing two hall-tickets--one for Preliminary and another for the Mains--is not followed by the UPSC. On April 17, 2025, Justice Rao had directed TGPSC 'not to issue appointment orders' to all selected candidates in Group-1 exam, but directed the TGPSC to go ahead with certificate verification of the selected candidates. Counsels for the petitioners sought a 'stay' on the notification and evaluation process for the recruitment notification no 02/2024, dated February 19, and a 'judicial probe' into the evaluation alleging that several irregularities and inconsistencies had cropped up while conducting the Group-1 exam on October 21. The judge heard the writ filed by Parmesh Matta and 19 others and five other petitions. The hearing was adjourned to Wednesday for further arguments.
