Long Island school nurse reassigned for wearing coat with three controversial letters during 'Superhero Day'
A New York nurse has been reassigned after allegedly dressing up as an ICE agent during a Superhero-themed fancy dress day at a largely Hispanic school.
The employee, who has not been officially named, sparked fury among parents at Northwest Elementary School in Long Island by wearing a hat and jacket emblazoned with the controversial letters on Wednesday.
Amityville Union Free School District said her outfit was 'perceived by some members of the school community as offensive or inappropriate in the educational setting'.
'The District takes all concerns related to the school environment seriously, particularly when they may impact students, staff, or families,' officials said.
'Upon learning of the situation, the staff member was immediately reassigned to a non-school setting pending a full review.'
The district said it is investigating the 'personnel matter', and will not be providing any further details about the incident.
Sixty percent of students enrolled at Northwest Elementary School for the 2023/2024 school year are Hispanic, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
Amityville residents and parents erupted in fury online, with several people calling the ICE costume 'disgusting', while others called for the nurse to be fired.
'I hope karma is swift and she loses her job,' one person said. 'This is so disgraceful on so many levels. I feel so broken.'
Another woman said she was 'appalled' by the outfit. 'Her abhorrent behavior needs to be dealt with immediately,' she said of the nurse.
'Wow. Truly disgusting,' another woman wrote.
'Call the Amityville Superintendent's office and email the Board of Education to demand consequences for this school nurse - a disgrace to her profession.'
It comes as tensions surrounding Donald Trump's sweeping immigration raids have reached a boiling point, with widespread unrest erupting across the country.
Protests broke out in Los Angeles on Friday, in response to ICE agents allegedly detaining two truckloads of people at a manufacturing site in the California city.
The demonstrations escalated into violence, looting and arson over the weekend, with several protesters also waving Mexican and Palestinian flags.
Trump responded by mobilizing 4,000 National Guard members to quell the riots, along with 700 US Marines.
LA Mayor Karen Bass also said a curfew had been put in place from 8pm until 6am in an effort to quell the unrest.
'If you drive through downtown LA, the graffiti is everywhere and has caused significant damages,' Bass said, adding that 29 businesses were looted on Monday night alone.
Demonstrators have said that Trump's immigration raids are lacking due process, while breaking migrant families apart.
The LA protests also inspired anti-ICE demonstrations in other cities including New York, Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta.
Some rallies involved a few dozen people, while others attracted thousands.

Provo, Utah police have rejected her accusations in a department statement: 'From everything we have reviewed, this is not true.' In the response issued on Friday, Retzlaff's representation says: 'Mr. Retzlaff specifically and categorically denies each and every and all allegations that he bit, raped or strangled [the woman], which are ridiculous and bizarre allegations, all of which are false and untrue.' Additionally, the response states that the encounter with Retzlaff and his accuser was consensual and that they had exchanged lighthearted text messages to each other up through February 2024. Retzlaff's attorneys are calling the lawsuit an extortion attempt, considering the quarterback developed into an NFL prospect about one year after their encounter. Among the damages in the lawsuit, the accuser claims to have suffered emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, mental distress and anxiety as a result of the alleged rape. She is seeking damages in excess of $300,000 from Retzlaff. 'A year and half after the rape and strangulation, Jane Doe A.G. continues to experience extreme post-traumatic stress disorder and other trauma symptoms as she works to process what happened and move on,' the lawsuit states. Retzlaff's attorney, Mark Baute, denied the accusations in his own statement at the time of the filing. 'We look forward to proving that innocence,' Baute said. 'Jake's focus this year will be on football. We don't try cases in the media, we will respect the process and establish Jake's innocence through the judicial system.' The alleged assault is said to have taken place at Retzlaff's home in November of 2023, when the California native was still a freshman with the Cougars. After connecting on social media a month earlier, the two spent weeks exchanging messages before he allegedly invited her to his home. The accuser claims she and a friend attended Retzlaff's home that night, where his friends and teammates were also socializing. Later, she claims, after her friend went home, she and Retzlaff began to watch a movie and ultimately began kissing. Jane Doe's lawsuit states she did not immediately disclose Retzlaff's name to Provo police, but later informed them that it was the BYU quarterback, only to be told victims 'never get justice' However, she says she did not want to go any further. 'Retzlaff began escalating the situation,' the filing reads, 'and Jane Doe A.G. tried to de-escalate the situation and attempted to slow things down, trying to pull away, and saying "wait." She did not want to do anything sexual with him.' After allegedly telling Retzlaff 'no' and trying to leave, Retzlaff grabbed her by the neck and proceeded to rape her, according to the lawsuit. The experience was so painful, Doe claims in her lawsuit, that she actually 'passed out.' And when she was conscious, Doe 'remembers tears rolling down her face as she fought to breathe,' the lawsuit reads. She went to the hospital two days later, where a rape kit was performed and her injuries were recorded. Her lawsuit states she did not immediately disclose Retzlaff's name to Provo police, but later informed them that it was the BYU quarterback. 'At some point after speaking to the police, an officer reached out to her asking for the name because someone else filed a complaint against a football player and the police wanted to see if it was the same person,' the lawsuit said. 'At that point Jane Doe A.G. shared Retzlaff's name, and the Provo police then encouraged her not to do anything because, as they claimed, "sexual assault victims never get justice."' Provo police have released their own statement, questioning Doe's claims against the department. 'The civil suit states that Provo Police personnel discouraged the victim from proceeding, by telling her there is no justice for victims of sexual abuse,' wrote a department spokesperson. 'From everything we have reviewed, this is not true. We have a team of dedicated investigators and victim advocates whose sole mission is to provide justice to victims of sexual abuse. They do not send people away, warning them there is no justice for victims.' Retzlaff, a junior, is rumored to be dating BYU softball player Jaelynn Lambert, who is another California native. The quarterback has posted pictures of himself with the outfielder on Instagram. The first Jewish quarterback in BYU history, Retzlaff previously signed a name, image and likeness deal (NIL) with one of the world's top kosher brands, Manischewitz. New Orleans jailbreak fugitive captured peacefully by police
Louisiana authorities on Friday captured one of the 10 men who escaped from a New Orleans jail six weeks earlier – and who police say released videos on social media while still on the run. Antoine Massey, 33, was taken into custody at a residence in New Orleans about 2 miles (3km) from the jail, said the New Orleans police department superintendent, Anne Kirkpatrick. That left one of the 10 escapees still at large. 'He actually walked out of a home peacefully,' Kirkpatrick said of Massey. 'He peacefully gave up to law enforcement who had surrounded the house.' The Orleans parish sheriff, Susan Hutson, said she had received a tip on Friday morning and immediately notified other law enforcement authorities, who arrested Massey by midafternoon. The Louisiana state police superintendent, Robert Hodges, said authorities were still investigating how Massey was able to stay at the residence where he was recaptured. 'It's pretty obvious over the last six weeks to remain a fugitive that long, he had assistance – he had help,' Hodges said. Authorities had recently investigated social media posts by a man who identified himself as Massey and earlier in June raided a New Orleans home where they believed the videos were produced. But they did not find him. 'Great work by all our law enforcement partners who have been working so hard for this outcome,' Louisiana's attorney general, Liz Murrill, said after Massey's capture on Friday. 'One more to go!' Authorities are still searching for convicted murderer Derrick Groves. Police previously captured the other eight escapees following the 16 May jailbreak, one of the largest in recent US history. Authorities said the men yanked open a faulty cell door inside the New Orleans jail, squeezed through a hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed-wire fence and fled into the dark. The men's absence wasn't discovered until a morning headcount, hours after they bolted for freedom. Authorities found a message drawn around the hole the men used to escape: an arrow pointing at the gap and the words 'To Easy LoL'. Officials have pointed to multiple security lapses in the jail, but authorities remain adamant that the men also likely had help. A maintenance worker at the jail was arrested for allegedly helping the men escape by turning off the water to the toilet where the hole was cut behind. His lawyer says he has denied knowingly aiding them. Massey faced charges of rape, kidnapping, domestic violence involving strangulation and violation of a protective order, authorities in nearby St Tammany parish said. In Orleans parish, he faced charges of motor vehicle theft and domestic battery. Murrill said Massey will face additional charges for his role in the escape. A woman police identified as being in an on-again, off-again relationship with Massey was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and as a principal to aggravated escape, court records show. Authorities said the woman knew of Massey's escape plans beforehand, communicated with him afterward and misled authorities. On his social media videos, Massey pleaded with Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian and rappers to help him. A $50,000 reward remains for tips leading to Groves' recapture, authorities said.

Sean ‘Diddy' Combs and son Justin accused of rape in new US lawsuit
As closing arguments got under way in the federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs this week, the music mogul and his son Justin Combs were hit with a new lawsuit, accusing them of a 'brutal gang-rape' in 2017. In the suit filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, a woman alleges that Justin Combs used his father's celebrity status to 'lure [the] plaintiff, a young female, from Louisiana to Los Angeles where she was literally held prisoner for a weekend and repeatedly raped' by the pair and two other masked men, according to the complaint. The lawsuit comes amid the final phase of the seven-week trial for Combs, and on the day the mogul's son Christian, who raps as King Combs, released a seven-song album – including one called Diddy Free – on streaming services. The album, Never Stop, credits King Combs, 27, as the lyricist, and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, as a producer. Prosecutors have accused Sean Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, of running a criminal enterprise that engaged in sex trafficking, drug distribution, kidnapping, forced labor, arson and bribery, and coercing women, including his former partner singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, into participating in drug-fueled sex marathons. Combs's legal troubles kicked off in late 2023 when Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing him of rape and severe physical abuse over the course of a decade, and said he used his power and status to keep her trapped in the relationship. The lawsuit was settled the following day for $20m, but Combs soon faced dozens of lawsuits from others accusing him of sexual and physical abuse. This week's lawsuit claims that in 2017 Justin Combs, 31, lured the alleged victim, an 'accomplished, degreed professional', to Los Angeles with the possibility of a job, promising to use his father's connections. She was, the suit alleges, flown to Los Angeles and taken to a high-end Beverly Hills property where she was eventually drugged and repeatedly raped by Justin Combs and his father and two 'unknown, masked' men over the course of a weekend. Justin Combs allegedly held the potential job 'over [the] plaintiff's head' as well as 'risque' photos she had sent him. The suit accuses Sean Combs of a 'pervasive history of sexual assault and violence'. 'The conduct described herein is strikingly similar to how [the] defendant Sean Combs and his entourage conducted themselves for many years, and it appears that Combs's penchant for sexual violence is shared by his son,' the suit states. The woman is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the assault, which, according to the suit, left her with 'severe emotional distress, emotional anguish, fear, anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment, physical injury, emotional injury and trauma'. In a statement to media, Combs's legal team denied the allegations, stating that 'anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason'. The statement said: 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won't change the fact that Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone – man or woman, adult or minor.'
