Hibs complete signing of Scotland international Grant Hanley

Hibernian have completed the signing of Scotland defender Grant Hanley on a two-year-contract. The former Blackburn, Newcastle and Norwich stopper was a free agent after leaving Birmingham City following their League One title win and will now look to help head coach David Gray's squad as they look to build on last season's third-placed finish. The 33-year old will bring huge experience to the Hibs back line with 432 senior career appearances under his belt. Hanley is a Scotland regular and has earned 62 international caps. Gray said: 'It's great to be able to bring Grant to the club. He's performed at a top-level throughout his career and has a real desire to compete at the highest level in his home nation.'He's a strong, robust defender that can play in any role across our back three. He's a real leader both on and off the pitch and a player of his experience will add a lot to the team. I look forward to working with him.'Hibs sporting director Malky Mackay added: 'We've been keen to add another defender to the first team squad, and we did everything in our power to make sure that we could bring in someone of Grant Hanley's calibre. He had a number of different options, but we're delighted he saw Hibs as the right club for him. 'He's an excellent character to add to the group, and his experience will really benefit our young players. I look forward to seeing him in Hibs green and white.' "It's a really exciting opportunity for me to come to Scotland and challenge myself in a different environment. "David Longwell spoke to my agent about the opportunity of me coming up here, and the way he sold the club to me and what the project was, I was really excited by it, and it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down."In England, I've played in the National League and League Two. I could have gone back to Swindon, and I loved my time there, but this felt like the right move for me to progress my career."Michael Mellon was one of my best mates at Burnley, and I spoke to him yesterday and he spoke about how much he loved his time at Dundee, says it was a great club with great fans and that I should definitely take this opportunity."
