"On what basis are you claiming...": Sanjay Raut questions India becoming 4th largest economy

India Gazette28-05-2025
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 28 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday questioned India's rise to becoming the world's fourth-largest economy, challenging the basis for celebration amid record-high unemployment and declining foreign investment.
Speaking to the media, Raut pointedly remarked that in a nation where 85 crore people still rely on free food grains, such boasts ring hollow.
'In a country where even today, Prime Minister Modi has to provide free food grains to 85 crore poor people, where unemployment is at its highest, and foreign investment has stopped coming in, on what basis are you claiming that we have become the world's fourth-largest economy?' Sanjay Raut said.
On Friday evening, addressing a press conference of the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat 2047', NITI Aayog CEO, Subrahmanyam said that India has overtaken Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy.
Citing data from the International Monetary Fund, the CEO of India's apex think tank stated that India's economy has reached the USD 4 trillion mark.
'We are the fourth-largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy. This is not my data; this is the data from the IMF. India today is larger than Japan. It's only the United States, China, and Germany which are larger, and if we stick to what is being planned, what is being thought through, it's a matter of another two to three years; we would become the third largest economy,' said Subrahmanyam.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the pressure has increased to go one notch higher in the ladder of top global economies, and it surpasses the excitement and happiness of India becoming the fourth largest economy.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the goal is clear that by the year 2047, India must be a 'Viksit nation' with no compromise.
Addressing a public rally in Gandhinagar, the Prime Minister recalled the excitement among youth of the country when India surpassed United Kingdom, who had ruled India for over 200 years, and became the fifth largest economy. (ANI)

Terrorism was never saffron, will never be: CM Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (July 31, 2025) hailed the acquittal of all the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, saying 'terrorism was never saffron and will never be', while Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the verdict has wiped off the stigma on the Hindu community. VIDEO | Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis) briefs media on NIA court acquitting all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. He says,"The truth of how Congress-led UPA government tried to set the 'saffron terrorism' narrative and planted the Malegaon… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) July 31, 2025 Mr. Shinde claimed that Hindus can never engage in anti-national activities and hit out at the Congress for coining the 'absurd term of Hindu terrorism'. The Opposition Congress hit out at CM Fadnavis, saying the Chief Minister had 'no regrets' over the loss of innocent lives in the blast and that his reaction over the court verdict showed his 'political mindset'. It also sought to know if the government would challenge the court's decision in the Higher Court as it did after the 7/11 blasts case, where the accused were acquitted. Nearly 17 years after the Malegaon blast claimed six lives, a special court in Mumbai on Thursday (July 31, 2025) acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, noting there was 'no reliable and cogent evidence' against them. Reacting to the verdict, CM Fadnavis said on X, 'Terrorism was never saffron, is not and will never be.' In a post on X, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, 'Truth is never defeated. After a long battle of seventeen years, a special court has acquitted seven alleged accused in the Malegaon bomb blast case. It is true that justice was delayed, but it has once again been proven that truth is never defeated.' He said Shiv Sena has unequivocally supported the patriots who were falsely accused and imprisoned in the Malegaon blast case. 'This is because Shiv Sena never had any doubt that their cause was just. Colonel Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya, and the other seven individuals had to endure immense mental and physical torment due to these accusations. The Hindu community will never forget this injustice,' Mr. Shinde said. 'Hindus can never engage in anti-national activities, because patriotism is a sacred duty for those who follow Hinduism. The absurd term 'Hindu terrorism' was coined by conspiratorial Congress leaders. What answer do they have now for such blatant falsehoods?' he asked. 'A dark chapter has ended today. The stigma on the Hindu community has been wiped away. The slogan 'Say with pride, we are Hindus' will now resonate across the country with a hundredfold louder voice; there is no doubt about it,' Mr. Shinde said. State Revenue Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule said the verdict of the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in the Malegaon bomb blast case was not merely a judicial decision but an exposure of a long-running political conspiracy to defame. Editorial | By evidence alone: on the 2008 Malegaon blast trial The court clearly noted that there was no concrete evidence behind any of the allegations. But a more serious matter is that the Congress deliberately used the term 'Hindu terrorism' in its propaganda, attempting to defame the Hindu community and its faith worldwide, he said. The Congress committed an unforgivable crime by trying to place Hinduism, in the ranks of terrorists, which rather has been a symbol of humanity and tolerance for centuries. Today, the court has upheld the truth, and now the Congress must apologise to the Hindu community, Bawankule demanded. 'A Hindu has never been a terrorist and never will be. The court's decision today has delivered a resounding slap to those who defamed Hindus,' he said. State congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said terrorism has no religious colour. Congress has always condemned terror and demanded strict action against the accused. The Malegaon blast case was investigated by (then ATS chief) late Hemant Karkare, who sacrificed his life for protecting the country, he told reporters. 'If he and late state home minister R.R. Patil were alive today, what would the court verdict have been? This is what people are thinking,' he said. Mr. Sapkal said several questions have been raised in connection with the case. 'Who are the accused? Mumbai train blasts and Malegaon blasts are acts of terror. The government immediately moved the Supreme court after the 7/11 blasts case accused were acquitted. Will the government act in a similar way now?' he asked. Reacting sharply to the Chief Minister's comment, state Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said, 'Innocent people died in the Malegaon blast, and the government could not deliver justice to them, yet the Maharashtra Chief Minister has no regrets. His tweet (post on X) reveals his political mindset.' This is precisely why questions have been raised about the attitude of the investigative agencies, he said. 'These people view terrorism through a political lens as well. Individuals associated with the BJP and RSS had even labelled a brave officer like martyr Hemant Karkare a traitor,' he alleged. 'Was it this same political mindset that led to Rohini Salian being asked to take a soft stance against the accused and to slow down the investigation? Witnesses were offered inducements. A witness like Randhir Singh was given a ministerial position in Jharkhand,' Mr. Sawant said on X. When asked, senior Congress leader and former Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde refused to comment on the verdict.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi hits back at Trump on 'dead economy' remark

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said on Thursday (July 31, 2025) that the Indian economy is among the top five economies of the world and calling it "dead" can only come from a position of "arrogance" or "ignorance". Her remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 25% tariff and penalties on India, and called India and Russia "dead economies". "Not that one needs to say it there's enough legitimate data available to know that Indian economy is in the top 5 of the world and one of the fastest growing economies. Calling it a dead economy can only come from a position of arrogance or ignorance. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Ms. Chaurvedi said in a post on X. Not that one needs to say it there's enough legitimate data available to know that Indian economy is in the top 5 of the world and one of the fastest growing economies. Calling it a dead economy can only come from a position of arrogance or ignorance. Thank you for your attention… — Priyanka Chaturvedi🇮🇳 (@priyankac19) July 31, 2025 Mr. Trump mounted a sharp attack on India and Russia for their close ties and said the two countries can take their "dead economies down together". The U.S. President's fresh criticism of New Delhi and Moscow came hours after announcing the 25% tariff against India, plus a "penalty" for its trade with Russia. "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care," Mr. Trump said. "We have done very little business with India, their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world," he added. Latching on to Mr. Trump's remarks on the Indian economy, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said everyone except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman knows that the Indian economy is "dead", as he accused the BJP-led government of destroying the country's economic, defence and foreign policies. Talking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha also claimed that a trade deal with the United States will happen and Mr. Trump will define it, while PM Modi will do what the U.S. President tells him to do. Asked about Mr. Trump calling the Indian economy "dead", Mr. Gandhi said, "He is right. Everybody knows this except the prime minister and the finance minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact."

Will Modi remain 'silent' on baseless allegations made by Trump on India, asks Kharge

ANI Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said the PM had observed a "maun vrat" in Parliament on US President Donald Trump's India-Pakistan ceasefire claims, and asked whether he will remain silent on the baseless allegations made by the American leader on India. Kharge also asserted that the nation comes first and "we are always with the nation". His remarks came after Trump once again mounted a sharp attack on India and Russia for their close ties and said that the two countries can take their "dead economies down together". The US president's fresh criticism of New Delhi and Moscow came hours after announcing 25 per cent tariffs against India, plus a "penalty" for its trade with Russia. "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care," he said, adding, "We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World," Trump said. In a post on X, Kharge said, "Modi ji had observed a 'maun vrat' in the Parliament on Donald Trump's statements on ceasefire. Will Modi ji remain silent on the baseless allegations made by Trump on India?" "Narendra Modi ji, nation comes first and we are always with the nation," Kharge said. He noted that Trump has imposed a 25 per cent tariff plus a penalty on India. "This will harm the country's trade; MSMEs and farmers will also be adversely affected. Many industries will suffer heavy losses. Your ministers have been talking about negotiating a trade deal with America for months. Some of them camped in Washington for several days," he said. "This is how your friend - 'Namaste Trump' and 'Abki Baar Trump Sarkar' rewarded our country for your friendship?" he said. Kharge said the US president has given the reason for the tariff as India's oil import from Russia, India's purchase of weapons from Russia, India's membership of BRICS and BRICS' so-called attack on the US dollar. The Congress president claimed that this is a severe blow to India's national policy of "strategic autonomy". "History is witness that non-alignment has been the foundation of our foreign policy. All governments, irrespective of parties in power, have strengthened friendship with the various countries across the globe, in the interest of India," he said. During the UPA government, Manmohan Singh as the prime minister got India a nuclear waiver from 45 countries including the US, Kharge pointed out. "The US supported us. For that, they changed their law. But India was not bound to take nuclear fuel and material only from the US. Our options were open. Your government's foreign policy has dealt a severe blow to that national policy," he said. Trump is talking about doing a deal with Pakistan on oil reserves and is "threatening India", Kharge said, and asked why the PM was "sitting silent". "We are worried about this new America-China-Pakistan Axis. Instead of worrying about PR, the Modi government should think about the country," Kharge said.
